Please remember, no details from the Lostfan108 spoilers in this thread.
Thanks to Dan for the heads up.
Malik in Bangkok: I love Lost! Is anyone going to die in the season finale?
I can tell you that a series regular who has been on the series since the first season will not be back next season (season five). According to inside sources, this person's contract has been put into a holding deal and the plan at this point is to have him or her return for season six. Guesses? (OK, I'll spare you the frantic emails: It is not Jack or Sawyer. It's a she.)
Wendell in Santa Fe, N.M.: Lost, girl! Spill! What can you tell me about the very end of this season?
Remember how I told you that time traveling and teleporting is most definitely happening?(Duh) Well, let's just say that it's going to be happening on a much larger scale in the coming seasons. And if I tell you any more about that twist, I will break the heart of this sweet guy who's name rhymes with "Hey, mon" and karma will see to it that I return in the next life as grasshopper poo.

"It's a she." Grrrrr. That narrows it down to three. I guess I might as well just read the Lostfan108 spoilers.
Claire for sure.
Yeah, guess that means Claire and it really is not cool. Well, either her or Rose. My money is on Claire though. Ugh. That's really disappointing.
Maybe Kate??
that's what I would like !!!
I posted this in the TV Forums Message board, and it seems it would be Claire. At least if she's gonna be back in Season 6, it doesn't appear she will die. I'd say this is close to 100% that it is Claire. Especially the way Darlton has been talking about Claire in different interviews. I hope if she's not gonna be around in Season 5, she's in the Season Finale this year or at least mentioned.
One thing we were discussing on the message boards, if she's contracted for Season 6, I would think she could make a few guest appearances in Season 5, but I don't know how the contract works.
It seems like Claire is the obvious quote, but my guess is...Rose..
Darlton says they have a big plan for Claire and that is why she was in the cabin, plus I remember it was Kristin or Ausiello saying Emilie De Ravin signed a new contract...!?
What was she blathering about with regards to Desmond?!
Or was she referring to Damon?
I hate her so much.
I agree that it's probably Claire. If it is, I am so, so disappointed. I really like Claire and I was hoping without Aaron to carry around she would have a bigger roll to play, not less or none. I even hoped she might become Sawyer's girl Friday. Darn.
i bet it's Rousseau. we already know she isn't coming back next season but they said she wasn't necessarily gone for sure
Neither Rousseau nor Rose have ever been "a series regular". It's definitely Claire, especially given the recent reports of Emilie de Ravin signing a new specific contract.
Yep, definitely Claire. I'm not surprised, they planned it well with Christian and everything. With Christian in the finale, it's possible she appears but I doubt it. And it's not Kate and Sun, they're too integral as they're Oceanic 6 members.
Emilie told Kristin this just 2 weeks ago:
Is it true your contract is being renegotiated so you'll be either be on the show a little more or a little less next season?
No, I haven't heard anything about that.
Claire is the liekly choice. And that eats my soul a little. I love Claire, and the idea of her being MIA for an entire season is unsettling. Though, her being back for season six is a hopeful note. I guess it could be Rose, i suppose it depends on what Kristin deems 'series regular'.
Misdirection on Emilie's part, I think.
Also, Mira Furlan and L. Scott Caldwell were never under contract, which is why they weren't obligated to appear on Lost, and the writers had to fit them in according to their availability.
And again: This is a men´s world (I mean the island)
I was happy to have Claire around on the island... I could live with Kate. It doesn't seem like she wants to go back to the island.
Opiemills, Juliet began appearing on Lost in season 3. The female character to die is : "a series regular who has been on the series since the first season"
Sun is my guess. Her story is pretty much finished, with the baby and all, but as a corporate big shot, she is all set to be an important role for the series finale in season six. I doubt that she would want to return to the island (as will probably be the main SL in Season 5), being a mom.
It could fit, though I hope it is Kate.
yeah i was thinking sun too. i thought that she might be absent from season 5, but back in 6, but i have to say, it definately sounds likes its gona be claire....
why do damon and carlton keep getting rid of all the females!! Now lost is almost exclusively JUST MEN! GGGRRR! :)
emanual- No one said that the female character is dying. I'm also fairly certain that Sun's story apart from Jin is not over, especially since her dad's company was allied with Widmore Industries and The Hanso Foundation.
With neither Charlie nor Aaron, Claire does seem to be dead-weight. I admit that I never really liked her, since I think that she was too hard on Charlie (except with the Baby Napping in "Fire + Water," which I still don't understand).
This will probably piss off those who love Claire, but, however, I do like this new element of her being in The Cabin. It gives her a new aspect to once again make her interesting as a character (since I haven't found her backstory or personality that interesting - Richard Malkin aside). It adds new mystery to her island status (alive, dead, ghost, etc.) and connects what I had originally thought to be just a cheap way of connecting Claire to Jack in order to make her seem more important regardless of her own small merits. Being in the Cabin gives the character more of an opportunity to become more important, mythologically, than she has been in the past (i.e. a step up from a redshirt) by allowing the audience, that is, those who identify with Claire, into the crazy undead world of Christian "dead but also here" Shepherd that seems to exist in droves on the island.
i really really hope its not claire. its just so obvious. shes one of the few female characters i have left to like. her and juliet - neither of which i feel are that safe. plus after that wierd scene in jacobs cabin i was thinking in s5 we'd get to see this new wierd claire more and more.
Oh, I am actually bummed about this, be it Claire or Sun. If it was Rose - that I would be ok with. But I think it has to be Claire, it definitely makes the most sense. But, damn!
If it is Claire, it will be particularly annoying given that it will most likely mean we will not find out what happened to her until season 6.
Under the assumption that it is indeed Claire, it would have been far better writing to have her fade into ethereal obscurity in the finale, and give her something substantial to do in the lead-up episodes.
Frankly, why can't whoever this female regular is, be given a limited recurring role in the next season? As in, at least one appearance akin to Rose and Bernard's in season 3? Why is it so vital that we wait until season 6?
what the hell does the second spoiler mean?
@Gemma
I think she's refering to what Christian told Locke to do in Cabin Fever, you know, move the island.
oh g*d, pls be kate
@isabelle "why do damon and carlton keep getting rid of all the females!! Now lost is almost exclusively JUST MEN! GGGRRR! :)"
maybe cos the writers plan to do some male-male pairs ? lol
Seriously, we all are sad cos of that but maybe some new girls from DHARMA initiative will come to the game :D
Well now i am extremely depressed, and upset that we have lost the only 2 australians left on the show in the space of 2 episodes ! (Claire/Captain Gault)
can the writers please bring back Cindy? and the kids? i want them to become more recurring than just 1 episode every 20!
It's almost certainly Claire.
And if time travel and teleportation start happening on a 'much larger scale' then all bets really are off.
It's probably Rose. She and Bernie will probably stay on the island, lest the risk her cancer coming back. Besides, she really doesn't have a huge role ANYWAYS. Since next season is supposed to be coming BACK to the island, I'm not sure we'll see an awful lot about what's actually happening ON the island itself. Then season 6 is supposed to be what happens when they get back to the island. Claire seems to be in the half-dead state that the island does so she can probably appear like Charlie does to Hurley once in a while. I doubt it could be Kate at all. Of course, this is Lost, and it always has curveballs.
My guess is that it's Claire. Emilie would be MIA for the next season and would only return back in season 6. Which means we would only get to know what exactly happened to Claire in season 6.
What a bummer. With Claire MIA- we are now down to....4 main female characters on the show- and only 2 left on the island.
Well- it's a male dominated world anyway, right?
Definitely Claire.
Man, that sucks.
So we wont' know what happend to claire until the last season ? arghhhh
shit. i think they are making a huge mistake if it is claire. HUGE. dumb and foolish choice on their part.
but i do think kristin is talking about danielle. it doesn't say series regular since the beginning, it says something else. and the producers said they would do danielle's back story in season 4. wait, no they're not, she's dead, so they are covering their arses. no danielle back story next season. prolly no libbers, either.
It could easily be talking about Danielle and mean that we'll get her backstory in season 6.
Really hoping it's not Claire.
i'm with you Danielle, a Kate-less season would be great!
Emily De Ravin is underrated. I would much rather see her getting more spotlight, as opposed to Evangeline Lilly.
Could it be a roundabout way of saying that Mira Furlan is off the show until her really important backstory is told in Season 6? She was also there since Season 1.
Its Claire, for sure. Recently she works in many big screen projects so probably she just preferred them to long-lasting TV show.
Cannot be Sun, TV guide scans said Sun is going to be important in the future "revenge race".
DevDev said... Yeah, guess that means Claire and it really is not cool. Well, either her or Rose. My money is on Claire though. Ugh. That's really disappointing
==========
It can't be Rose. Rose isn't a contracted regular.
Juliet, Sun, Kate, and Claire are the only 4 female contracted regulars.
I'm guessing Claire, too. Explains why they removed her from the action to the weirdy cabin, and why Locke was told not to (and probably won't) tell anyone about seeing her. Out of sight, out of mind, and whatnot.
Of course, maybe we'll get a zombie Alex in S6.

Last comment.
As stated with Rose, Mira was only ever a guest actor and not contracted.
If it is Claire, it'll be no biggie. Never doubt Darlton's amazing ability to put any burning mystery on the backburner, baiting us with it and making us think it's right there on the horizon, to come back, and never really does (at least not so far).
See: Walt.
See: Rousseau's history.
See: The four-toed statue.
See: Penny Widmore and the Arctic guys.
See: Libby in the Mental Ward.
(Soon) See: Team Jacob Claire.
Lots of mysteries for Seasons 5 and 6, eh?
I'm sure its Claire. Like stated earlier, her contract was being negotiated, so it's a great possibility that they might only want her in season 6. Seeing her in Jacob's cabin was a huge cliffhanger that they probably won't get back to until season 6 when they return to the island. Especially since season 5 is supposed to be mainly about the Oceanic 6 and what they do off the island in order to get back and also the Dharma Initiative. They have 2 big storylines right there to take us into season 6. They've done it a bunch of times in the past, with Michael being a perfect example. (meaning they have had stories/cliff hangers that don't get revisited until a season or two later)
Haha, basically what Comans said in the post above me. I guess we posted at the same time and I missed his.
lol, kristen says 'plan at this point'. that means it can change. and given kristen's really crappy (i mean... REALLY crappy) track record with spoilers (lol... kate centric for episode 10, saying that there were more episodes written pre-strike than there actually were... the list continues), i wouldn't be surprised if this is just some bs little news she heard about someone appearing less next season, and she takes it to the next level, trying to guess the spoilers, so that in the off chance she is right, she can believe herself to be spoiler queen
unless it's kate, in which case this news is great.
"shit. i think they are making a huge mistake if it is claire. HUGE. dumb and foolish choice on their part."
I don't think it is totally 100 % TPTB making this choice.
Emilie de Ravin has two or three movies booked over the next year, so I am sure Lost would just get in her way of furthering her movie roles.
Also even though for us the viewer it is 8 months of waiting until Jan / Feb - Season 5, then the episodes and another 8 months til season 6 begins. On the show season 5 is probably going to be over a few weeks / a month period over the timeline.
Pretty sure it's Claire. It's not Sun.
In Lindelof's words: "We have big plans for Sun."
just remember most of you were "absolutely sure" that Claire was going to die and be gone about 4 episodes ago as well.
Kristen is not the most reliable source as of late.
What did the psychic tell Claire about Aaron? Did he tell her that "another" should not raise Aaron...or did he say An "OTHER" I'll be peed off if Claire is really dead...mostly dead is ok...but not really dead!
allim going to say in regrards to lostfan108..... is that he didnt mention ANYTHING about this
I wonder if this was something that Emilie de Ravin actually wanted to do - i.e. to take a break to do other things?
Another theory: When Des had his flash about her getting on to the helicopter, she might have been due to be one of the Oceanic 6. But then they might have painted themselves into a corner because the plot might seem better if she is separated from Aaron and all the stuff to do with the six having to return to the island.
Whatever has happened, they'll have more time to work out what to do about Des's vision and it could be included in season 6.
monkstro you're totally right. I've also read Lostfan108's major spoiler for this season finale and after reading this latest one from Kristin I'm 100% sure that this time it's a foiler.
kirstin IS lostfan108.........not..she wishes she had his/her information
I think it's Claire, but I don't know why they're doing it...I honestly don't think that Emilie has specifically reequested her contract to be renegotiated...and, also, I don't want to wait until season six to find out where Claire is!!!
DarkUFO, would it be possible for you to tell us if the finale sheds light on which of the three women seems unlikely to return next season? I am tempted to ask if Claire will even appear in the finale, as well, but I would be more than satisifed with the answer to the former question.
claudio.. im not 100% sure he posted a foiler.. i think we'll come to find out he was pretty accurate.. i mean, he's, what? 3 for 3 with his episode spoilers? i dont think he'll be entirely wrong this time either.. maybe he just forgot or purposely didnt mention some things...
seriously.. he's gonna probably be very close to accurate.. it may be some wishful thinking on some of our parts that it is a foiler.. but this is just like last year when people were saying the same stuff when he left out a few key points.. i dunno.. i guess time will tell!
Darlton could have done a lot with Claire, they were just too lazy to. This sucks. Perhaps the Lost "geniuses" ran out of ideas???
ugh.
And whats with all the Kate-hate?? Shes awesome. If a female character picks up a gun instead of just being a background for the male leads, people hate her....thats ridiculous.
Why are they killing of all the hot chicks? I hope Danielle returns next season.
Shame Claire's going. I am startin to like her.
I don't think Dark knows guys... if he knew stuff he'd tell us. He only knows what was sent to him, which was what we all saw.
I'm in no doubt that Lostfan has missed some stuff out of the episode. I hope we see Claire, IF (and I mean if, Kristen's been wrong before, VERY wrong in one recent apparently case ;)) this spoiler is true.
Umm, shouldn't talking about what Lostfan108 didn't say be considered as much of a spoiler as what he did? I mean, you are essentially talking about eliminating possibilities here, which I happen to consider a spoiler.
I really hope it's not Claire; though it does appear like it is mostly likely her. She's my favorite character on the show and I feel that ever since Season 2 her character has always been on the backburner compared to the rest of the cast. And you know sometimes I feel like I'm watching the show just to see if Claire is in the episode or if anyone even mentions her. Even though I love the show, that's one think I hate about it, they focus too much on certain characters and not enough on others.
In the end even if it is Claire, at least she'd be back in Season 6. These means the writers better be planning some spactular for her. Because I would hate to see her come back to the show with only but appearing in a couple of scenes.
It's Kate, Claire, or Sun. But I don't think they would take Kate out for an ENTIRE season. Hope! But no, I don't think so. Sun could be possible, same with Claire. I guess we'll find out eventually! But Claire seems more likely, because Sun is an O6 and you would think, that we would see her again in the future.
BTW, Kristin was talking about Damon, when she said "And if I tell you any more about that twist, I will break the heart of this sweet guy who's name rhymes with "Hey, mon" and karma will see to it that I return in the next life as grasshopper poo.". Because he wouldn't want her spoiling everything :)
In a completely unrelated note, I like how Kristen completely ignores the first question LOL. I don't think she's as clued up as she makes out to be.
Definitely gonna be Claire, TPTB said that Claire was going to be part of a really big mystery. I think disappearing for a season is a pretty big mystery.
Oo, that should be a 'whose'.
Guess there really IS no one regulating this woman.
Could the Spoiler be a bit wrong and actually be about Penelope? I know Sonya Walger is an extremely busy actress. It'd kinda make sense to write her out for the final 8 days on the island.
Doubt it.
The producers already stated in their press conference that they'd try to get Sonya Walger whenever she was available. Kristin isn't the best at spoiler accuracy, but I don't think anyone would confuse "series regular since season 1" with "rare series guest star since season 2 finale."
i'm just not seeing it as claire. series regular is not the same as main cast member, and even the guest stars have contracts. (see nestor campbell)
i really do think it's danielle, and it's a result of two things: the strike shrinking the number of episodes and thus their time for story telling this and next season, AND the actress asking to be let go so she can work on some other stuff right now.
they've been cooking up some cool stuff for the character, and i'm fairly sure they want to integrate it into the story at some point. it's just been a tease for too long, the danielle back story.
not to mention their needs to be females left on the island, and char and jules ain't gonna cut it. (you're lovely, rose, but they want women who get wet in tanks with dreamy hair on this island.)
besides, the claire-jack relationship revelation set up something HUGE story wise that can't wait a whole season, and will be the driving force of jack's story from here on out. that can't be done with no claire, even if she's mentioned all the time. she has to be present.
and another thing, with two years left, and little wiggle room in terms of wandering from the story line, there can't be anymore hanging mysteries. it's time to clean up this mess, so to speak, and answering already established questions and mysteries. and of course tell the story. so looking at it from that angle, leaving a seriously emerging character like claire out for a whole season doesn't make sense, and wastes time. better to get her arch out of the way and kill her off, and move on to more pressing things.
and finally, in show clues that point directly to MORE of claire next season, not less:
- her kid is finally being raised by someone else. BIG NO NO
-her family ties (which have been in the making since day 1) are out in the open
-she stood up to locke, and he listened. she orchestrated the first funeral. she's been said to have influence over the castaways, and to a certain extent the OTHERS. (see alex rescuing her, and ethan feeling guilty about killing her.)
-she has/had locke, desmond, kate, sun, bernard, boone, hurley, eko, charlie, and sawyer (and potentially even miles at this point) all looking out for her. her removal effects and even changes several people's motives for their actions on the island. there's a reason ben targeted her to get sick, and opportunity was the reason. she elicts the most sympathy out of anyone else there.
-widmore has her baby's daddy's painting in his office. there's a link there, thus increasing her value.
mainly the locke thing, the sawyer thing, and the jack thing point to her importance on the show and to next season.
and there's my case for why claire is important and will definitely be back next season. merci.
ha ha, it should say opportunity was NOT the reason.
^I just hope you're right... and that the writers are on the same train of thought.
frou frou-
Series regular and main cast member are actually the same thing. And Nestor Carbonell didn't have a contract until after the strike, which indicates that he is going to become a main cast member in Season 5. The actress who plays Danielle asked to be written off because she no longer wanted to be on the show.
As much as I hate to believe it, it most likely is Claire. The amount of story-related points that you argue for Claire, anyone could make for *any* main character. It's all a matter of perspective.
I also read somewhere about Claire not being a regular but getting a few special guest star treatments. Could you imagine how cool it would be for Claire to show up and see Jack or Kate off the island in her weird state she was in the cabin?
Claire appearing off the island would be awesome! I don't want Claire to be gone for season 5. She's my favorite character.
well, seeing as this is coming from kristin, and she loves to think she's smart with word play, i'm going to stand by series regular not meaning main cast member. if it were an official press release, maybe. but for now, i'm treating it as a hyped-up and empty tease. (and something kristin can manipulate later to fit whatever happens.)
"I'm treating it as a hyped-up and empty tease."
I have to agree !!
I think this is just a PR stunt created by TBTB to hype the show, get us talking about our love of Claire, restarting the drive towards fans demanding a Claire storyline !!
I don't think we have anything to worry about in regards to Claire being gone for season 5.
I am going to go with Danielle or even Rose for that matter being the series reg to taking a year off.
