Hehe, that must take the biscuit for stupid looking Jack pictures.
I guess my favorite part was will everyone get back together. It's why I want Sawyer to fall in love with Claire while the 06 are gone. It would be ridiculous if he was alone and pining for Kate and she can just pick up with I'll sleep with Sawyer and keep flirting with Jack stuff when she comes back. I think a better story would be does Sawyer still want Kate or is he happier in the relationship he has now. Kate has had four years of who does she want. It's time for someone else to have the power of who they really want in the triangle.
If Jin survives, the same would be interesting for Jin/Sun. Could Jin fall for Juliet and would he want Sun back and will Sun have turned into pre-island Jin out of her grief?
And what about Claire and Aaron. The only mother he's going to remember is Kate. Claire will be a stranger to him.
All these people are going to change. Can they really just pick things up where they left them off?
It's sad everybody is breaking up. Just Jack and Kate are still together. I'm gonna miss all the character interaction on the island.
Next season will be into an island return arc though (for more reasons than some might imagine) so any seperation anxiety we feel on the characters behalf will at least be tempered by that impetus :)
What else is new? The main Losties have been split up in one way or another for pretty much all of season 3 and 4...
hatebox, I think what is more interesting is what new dynamics will be formed.
For instance, I really think Jack thinks if he goes back everything is going to be like it was before, and that's just not possible.
ok, i'm confused. why do they talk about jack accomplishing his goal to get everyone off the island, and then realising he made a mistake? uhh, he didnt get everyone off the island! just himself and 5 more! lol. :)
And Jack wouldn't have done that without the sacrifices of the rafties and Desmond.
I also don't see how Locke is getting redeemed by moving the island. That in no way redeems him for his sins against his fellow castaways.
I loved this article but I loved more that picture! Jack and Kate together always is the best for me!
And Jack would only qualify get off the island a success if KATE were off, as well! I know, I'm being repetitional but what can I do if I love this both characters?! And together!!!
"I also don't see how Locke is getting redeemed by moving the island. That in no way redeems him for his sins against his fellow castaways."
What sins exactly?
@chris--
Oh no, here comes the litany! Don't you know?
He "killed" Boone.
He clonked Sayid on the head.
He punched poor Charlie.
He left Kate behind in New Otherton.
He conned Sawyer.
He blew up the all-important Hatch/Flame/submarine.
He put a knife in the back of an "unarmed woman."
He "got half our people killed."
His shirts smell.
He makes bad lemonade.
Am I forgetting anything?
i am a huge locke fan, but as for his sins, i think there are a few of them.
Mainly killing naomi (i think she is good cos she seems to be working for abaddon).
And for not telling jack how boone really died. not that jack could have saved him anyway cos the damage was too bad, but still, he should have told him the truth so jack could have at least known what was wrong. (btw - i dont blame locke at all for boones accident - he told boone to get out of the aircraft, and if he listened to locke, he would have been fine).
conning sawyer? i'm 50/50 on that one. i mean sawyer WANTED to do it, but still...i dont know...maybe locke should have given him a choice rather than locking him in a room with him. :)
@isabelle--I agree that the jury is still out on Naomi, but he was right about her call bringing forces that wanted to kill them all, and many died as a result of that phonecall.
The Cooper thing is tricky. I wish he'd done it himself. I'm still not sure what the writers (Darlton, in this case) were getting at with the moral thrust of that ep.
And as I've said before, my main beef with Locke is his refusal to tell people important stuff that might help his own cause a little!
I was being sarcastic though. If Locke was perfect or sin-free, I wouldn't care for the character. But I also think the list of "sins" is usually pretty overblown. As I'm sure you'll agree.
surly - "But I also think the list of "sins" is usually pretty overblown. As I'm sure you'll agree."
i do agree. if fact, i think for some people, locke biggest sin is going against saint jack! ;)
as for the cooper thing, i am glad locke didnt kill him. i know he put locke through alot of shit, but locke loved his dad and only wanted to be loved back in return. i dont blame him for being unable to kill him, and i am glad that sawyer got to do it. if fact, i'd feel cheated if sawyer DIDNT get to do it cos it was his sole mission for a large part of his life. i just wish locke had given sawyer a choice. either way, he did sawyer a favour by letting him kill the man who destroyed sawyers life.
:) :)
@isabelle--I agree, the Cooper thing could go either way. I reckon I wish they'd double-teamed him. Not that I want Locke to have more blood on his hands or anything, but if they were gonna turn around and have him kill Naomi...
I agree though that Locke's generosity of spirit (it's not a crime to love someone and keep forgiving them...you just need to know when to walk away in order to protect yourself! Locke hasn't figured that out yet!) is one of his defining qualities. Again, I'm just not sure what the writers were getting at. It seemed like a metaphor-heavy episode and that killing his father would have gained him some kind of major freedom and release...but he gave that to Sawyer, instead. Or something.
The people who love Locke/hate Jack or love Jack/hate Locke will hopefully have that dichotomy shattered for them in S6, if not sooner.
Well, if we just stick to this season:
Using Charlie's death to get the camp to split.
Promising people if they came with him he'd keep them safe, and then cowering inside and not even trying to protect anyone when the camp got attacked.
Letting Ben lock Sawyer and Claire outside when the barracks were attacked and not doing anything to let them in when Sawyer was pounding on the door. It was only after Hurley broke the window he finally helped them in.
Pulling a gun on Sawyer to stop Hurley from leaving because he thought Hurley could find the cabin.
Leaving Claire in the cabin and not telling anyone she was in there because Ghost Dad told him to.
And that's just this season and there's no telling what new crap he may pull tonight.
Fact is, he only cares about one thing, the island. He doesn't care about any of the people he's stranded with, even though he claims everything he's doing is for them. If the island or Ben told him to offer each and every one of them up for sacrifice, he'd do it in a second, for the island.
sockerock - yeah, but come on, he was never really gonna shoot sawyer!
and its not really lockes fault that people were not safe at the barracks, he cant see that future ya know! :)
Some things are ever-present and nearly always to the fore when keyboard judge and jurors attempt to try the case of John Locke: an alarming lack of consideration for both literary technique and the moral threshold Lost has established. Both convenient tools for anyone wishing to chip away incessantly at their chosen target.
This ain't Superman and Lex Luthor we're dealing with here, it's Jack Shephard and John Locke. Gritty blood, sweat and tears type characters that can only be morphed out of shape by attempts to apply the aforementioned superheroic good vs evil dynamic to them. This show deals almost exclusively in shades of grey so highlighting minor infractions such as momentary indecision and hollow gun threatening appears trite at best.
Some of the actions Locke is so castigated for carry counteractions that would bend the plot completely out of the shape established from the outset. If that's the rational, predictable direction they'd prefer the show to take then I for one am thankful the writers disagree.
t.l.a - wooah, too many big words. that went straight over my head! lol :)
Lol Isabelle ;) Apologies. I put it the best way I could.
t.l.a, thatss ok, i got the gist of it :) :)
