who do we know that speaks italian? nobody that I know of. What kind of secret does he have if he's only in one episode? so, ep 401 is sawyer, my guess 402 is michael (which is why we got all those casting calls about the freighter), 403 could be anybody. possibly hurley?

Ummm I'd guess Jack, Juliet or Claire's flashback, only because we need a new aspect of their backstory introduced.
I bet he'll be in Sawyer's flashback.
Hi Lady_Drew. It's not been 100% confirmed but it looks like Episode 1 could well be Sawyer centric and this character is for Episode 3.
Whoever your source is, they didn't get it from a casting notice. I posted this at the Fuselage yesterday. I removed a few words from the casting notice and they used exactly the same words as I posted. This is the full notice.

sounds very interesting. But what does it say DANIEL/Dante? Do I sense a split personality character coming? That would be cool.
But to the description, that sounds an aweful like a young Enzo Valenzetti!!! That would be so cool!! Finally, seeing the face of the creator of the Numbers. And Dante, perfect name for us Literary Reference lovers :)

I remember just an episode where is a reference to Italy, it was a Michael's centric, Walt's mother had been living in Italy.
Could it be a Walt's centric? Mmmmmm, interesting.
Remember Jack's flashback? He had an Italian patient.
Sayid was in Paris earlier this year in one of his flashbacks- I thought that was pretty surprising. As such, i think this is a character that can appear in anyone's flash.
Bearing in mind of course, this may not be someone from the past, rather, the future.
But we dont know it could be a flash character, it could be somebody in real time and gets killed real quick like Colleen. She affected a big part of the story after her death.
Also, everybody, why do you guys think that it says Daniel?Dante? Dark?
Maybe he's a poet? ^^
Finally, some actually okay spoilers. I was starting to get a little worried about the lack of spoilers Dark. But I knew you wouldn't let me down this week.
Anyways; I think that this will probably be in a Claire flashback. I think that when she gets off the island, she will become a irresponsible adult who cannot take care of her kid. Just the exact oppisate of herself, like Jack. :D
Desmond flashback. Sawyer will be eppy 1 so we get the story of whats going on at the beach first (think back to the first 3 eppys last year we focused on J/K/S first then Jin/Sun/Sayid and then we went to the beach and saw Locke,Charlie,Eko, et al)then we will get a backstory of someone that went to the tower (possibly Jack ugh!) and then we will get back to the Looking Glass and see a Desmond flashback the Italian guy is probably someone to do with the boat race.
My first instinct was Sawyer, however if the rumor about 3.01 is true, my second instinct was Desmond.
My gut is telling me it's a Sayid episode.
I agree with Russnfuss, my thoughts exactly. Seems like a boat race flashback maybe.
Could this be a flash forward character? I like the idea of it being Michael-centric [his wife moved to Rome].
Who is Daniel Faraday?
Daniel and Dante were both writers, one wrote psychedlic prose in the Bible, he saw betwwen the lines and the other created the "Inferno", I like Oceanic tornado's Valenzetti idea too, if only they (TPTB) stuck to their own myth.
