Des didn't lose his memory... Remember in Flashes before your eyes, present Desmond (from the island) relived his past? And the producers said somewhere i think "the constant is like flashes before yor eyes but with a twist", I think that the twsit is that past desmond "relives" future desmond (on the island)... Which now that I think about it, it is the "definition" of losing his memory, haha.

Past Desmond was painting his flat red one day when suddenly he finds himself on an island... and decides to take off his clothes? Ha ha...
I'm still trying to make sense of this... I've watched it nearly twenty times so far. I've said since last November or so that this episode will be the best of the season/series.
That's interesting cronikeys, because just a few weeks ago when Dark had a poll about which episode we were looking forward to the most, most people picked "Eggtown" and "Meet Kevin Johnson"; I of course picked "The Constant" because I think it will be the best of the season.
Desmond always has such great centric episodes.
I think "Meet Kevin Johnson" will be the best episode but this one is definitely looking like it will come in second.
What does Frank say to Keamy after "he was fine when we took off"
Dominique, I think they deliberately edited out some dialog right after that, it was some meaningless blips, near as I could tell.
i dont remember very the episode, but when desmond first saw jack he remembered him, but did jack recognize des? if not, maybe all this was settled waaaay back there. weeeird des!
Desmond didn't instantly remember Jack, but Jack remembered him, hence the "You" at the end of Man of Science, Man of Faith.
Desmond asked him of he knew him from somewhere, but didn't "remember" him until Jack asked him what he was "running" from. Then Desmond remembered how he met him while he was "running", training for his race around the world.
It must be hard to play a character like Desmond. Henry Ian Cusick does a great job. I can't wait for this episode!!

I think thats the logical conclusion based the footage, but I think Darlton/ABC have carefully designed the sneak peeks to fake us all out.
Whatever the major reveal is, they're probably not going to give it away in the promos.
As bad as he may have it right now, I think the writers are about to open up an much bigger and more complicated can of whoop-ass on our boy Desmond.
(PS - Fisher Stevens and Terry O'Quinn do look eerily alike.)

I think some of the Frieghter people will be worse than the Others. I'd rather have Tom take me to the doctor than those two.
I think it is past Desmon flashing into present Desmond (or maibe even future Desmond flashing to present Desmond, in which he doesn't know about the island anymore... but that's a little far fetched. But since this episode is going to operate on different time periods, I agree with Georgew. This is only the beginning (how cool! The Desmond-centric episodes are my favourite :)).
But how does this side-effect thing make contact with past desmond? At what moment in the past will it intervene? It can't be a random moment, right? And how will it change the past somehow? Because what will happen to past Desmond when he is in the present?
Maibe something along the same lines happened to Daniel, who can't remember 3 cards? Maibe he's a timetraveler too, and that's why he weeps when he sees the recovery of the fake flight 815: he 'remembers' the future, but he doesn't realize it. Something like that :) (And that is how he becomes considered as a 'Headcase').
The Keamy character is gonna piss me off, I can already tell. Just like the actor's character in 3:10 to Yuma and Walking Tall. He always has the smug little smirk on his face.
I'm not really sure about how these Flashes really work, but is it possible that Desmond could relay a message to Penny in a Flash and that would help her in finding the island?
Yeah, that Keamy will be a true basterd but that doesn't mean that we have to dislike him. I mean, Sawyer, Sayid and Ben might not be what you would call angels but we still love them, right. :D
I mean, he can still be a great, interesting character...
Just because a character pissed me off doesn't mean he's not a great character. Locke pisses me off, but I think he's a great character for the show. Likewise Ben, though I like the Ben character much more than what Locke has become. So yes, I still think he could be a great addition to the show and an interesting character.
Wow! Can't wait for thursday! Desmond episodes have always been fantastic and I am sure this one won't dissapoint!

The Actor who potrays Keamy and the Actor who potrays Tom/Mr. Friendly both were in the Movie "Wild Hogs" and both were in Ray Liotta's Motorcycle Gang. I just ran across it the other day and noticed both men.
I always see MC Gainey (Tom) pop up in different movies that I didn't realize he was in. Although, the most disturbing image is when I found it he was the naked guy running down the street chasing after TH Church in Sideways.

Did anyone else notice that Omar walked towards Sayid with the intention to attack me or maybe just to intimidate him? I think this explains now why Sayid was holding Desmond in the helicopter. I wonder if this side-effect is going to be something temporary or permanent. If it's permanent (which I sure hope it is) it will give the writers another twist to play with and a chance to reinvent the Desmond character and perhaps some other ones as well. This might explain why HIC sounded excited about the future episodes.
That was simply amazing, I can't wait to see this episode.
annabeth's comment got me thinking. what if not only is past desmond flashing on future desmond, but future desmond is again flashing on the past, where he was in the army. while in the past, he meets faraday, but the oxford professor at this point doesn't know who he is yet....perhaps it could relate to why des was discharged from the military?
I think Desmond is experiencing memory loss rather than flashing.
The reason I think this is because Daniel was experiencing the same memory loss.
It would be awesome if Daniel has been to the island before, but he just forgot.
I think past Desmond (painting the wall) is flashing into present Desmond, while present Desmond is flashing into the one when the hatch imploded and he is flashing into past Des. That's why he knew Charlie's death right after the hatch implosion because it's already happened - but although he recognized past Charlie in the past, he did not know about his death.

But actually guys, if you thik about it, flashinf from past to present is the same thing as having partial memory lost... If past Des flashes into present, he would know who he is, but would not know where he is or who the people around him are. If he looses his memory partially, he would still know who he is, but would not know where is him, how he got there and who that people are. I think that they will explain that he is flashing from past to present, but to me is the same way both. What you think?

So, now I´m confused^^
I think this happened to Desmond because of his time-traveling past. Somehow when he returned to the island in the weird time split cause by turning the key, it tied his memories to the island. As soon as he got out of whatever dimension the lost island is on, his memories went back to before island...
I confused myself...

i think that what is happening to des and minkowski is what happened to danielles crew when they got to the island.
I think Desmond remembers something that will lead to the deaths of all the losties... and he's saying he doesnt know them because they might spare his life if he isnt affiliated with them. Maybe he forgot alot more about his past and the secrets of the island... he obviously knows that everyone on the island is in trouble with the frieghter people.
I think these "side effects" happen to highly evolved people (Desmond - psychic, Faraday - genius, Minkowski - ?) I think it may also be related to the "sickness" and the vaccines.
I don't think what is happening to Desmond here has anything to do with time jumping/flashes or whatnot. I think its a memory issue like with Daniel.
The freighter people that aren't effected either aren't "special" or they are up on their vaccines.
This episode looks great. I love all the weird Desmond episodes. He is really freaking out!

hah! it's a side effect of that electromagnetic thingy, Desmond was subjected to it deeply in Flashes Before Your Eyes in the hatch. And now when they're passing through the shield he experiences the effects again, only the other way around. Which seems to me that what is going one is a wheel inside of a wheel effect.

i hope desmond is alright but he will be fine and they wont kill him and sayid is looking after him anyway so nothing will happen to him.
Hopefully he will change back to normal by the end of the episode.
I think that he and the desmond who sees Faraday in the past have swopped so that past desmond is now in the present and present desmond is in the past.
This could have happened last time desmond time travelled but as desmond was unconcious on the island past desmond wouldnt have known anything had happened!
Forget a minute about Des' flashback/forward, look at what is being said in the dialogue of this sneek peak.
There are three MAJOR reveals here:
#1 Omar says, "What are you doing back." - This means the helicopter is not supposed to be back.
#2 Lapidus says, "They're survivors of Oceanic 815." -The freighter folks know that there could be survivors.
#3 I believe, Omar then immdiately says, "This is NOT the proper year!!! What were you thinking?" -WTF, people did you hear what I heard?
#4 Lapidus then says, "It's OK, Faraday told us to come out on this vector." -Omar then looks at him as if to say, shut up Lapidus.
Now, people, analyze what was said by Omar in #3 above. I believe it's exactly what Omar said, but it can easily be interpreted to be "You shouldn't have brought them here."

OMG!!! I don't know if he said proper year, but it sure as hell sounded like it... If it did, now that is something really HUGE my friend... You found something really important... but I wouldn't think of too much of a deal, I mean they wouldn't show us a sneak peek with such a "revelation"...

What I wanted to tell is maybe past Des and present Des are not swapping their positions (ie. flashing into each other) but 3 (or maybe more) Desmonds are flashing into the one of these 3.
Des1: Desmond painting the wall on his flat.
Des2: Desmond right after the hatch implosion.
Des3: Desmond during the storm or simply present Desmond.
-> means flashing into
Des1 -> Des3
Des3 -> Des2
Des2 -> Des1
I hope I explained my theory correctly.
WOH! What happens to Des that he doesn't know Sayid? And yeah, the freighters don't seem surprised at all that Des is like this.....

Actually I am a native speaker. It just seems that there are established friendships at abc.com and new people are not as welcome as those who have been posting for a long time. I am not a big fan of caustic comments. On the topic of Des...I am getting a delicious headache at the thought of all of this jumping back and forward in time. No doubt it will tax every single neuron in my brain to grasp these thoughts. The writers are absolutely brilliant. The unpredictability, twists, turns and pushing the envelope bring thinking outside of the box to a new level.
lapidus knew this was gonna happen to des cause if you look on the trailer he enter this wierd vortex, and btw daniel has lost his memory aswell
I wondered what happened to Charlie's Greatest Hits, but I think (gladly) that that's what Desmond is reading in the helicopter.
I think the 3-desmond theory is right by the way, because that would explain Desmonds future-telling powers :)
And about Daniel: He has lost some memory, but when he got to the island he still knew who Jack was ("Are you Jack?") and the other freighters, so what happened isn't exactly the same I guess
I know this is going to sound bizarre, and sorry if it's already been mentioned...but going back a few episodes, when Charlie see's hurly and he says "I did die, but I am really here". Is anyone else thinking that Charlie may actually be alive, due to some time travel loop...
