Thanks to Sarah and Lisa for sending this through. I've bolded the interesting part about the season 4, 5 and 6 arc.
Here are 10 reasons why we love "Lost' again.
1. This season is living up to last season's near-perfect finale: We saw the Losties out-ambush The Others and they were expecting to be rescued. The finale ended one chapter and started another in a tantalizing way. And the new season has reciprocated.
2. We learn Jack's fate: The finale introduced the flash forward and showed us Jack's (Matthew Fox) slide into alcoholism when he leaves the island. "The flash forward is part of an overall plan for the show," says Damon Lindelof, co-executive producer. "Season 4 is about who gets off the island and the fact that they need to get back. Season 5 is about why they need to get back, and season 6 is about what happens when they get back."
3. We know who survives: Season four introduced six survivors: Jack (Matthew Fox); Kate (Evangeline Lilly); Hurley (Jorge Garcia), and Sayid (Naveen Andrews). This "Oceanic 6" make it off the island, but one will die - exactly who will be revealed this season. "We've made a choice to focus on the characters that fans have loved since the beginning - Jack, Kate, Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Locke (Terry O'Quinn), Sayid and Hurley," says Lindelof.
4. The new characters are great: What tangled web will they weave? Daniel Faraday (Jeremy Davies), is very nervous physicist and Miles Straume (Ken Cheung) is an angry ghost whisperer. Cultural anthropologist Charlotte Lewis (Rebecca Mader) manages to still look lovely hanging upside down from a tree. And Frank Lapidus (Jeff Fahey) is the pilot who was supposed to be flying Oceanic 815.
5. Jack and Locke are rivals: Jack's lost leadership of the island to Locke, after a minor coup, promises tense clashes. We think Ben is still running the show, especially since we now know that he has a spy on the freighter. "Nefariousness is in the eye of the beholder," says Carlton Cuse, co-executive producer. "If you are Benjamin Linus, everyone is nefarious, except for you."
6. Sayid teams up with Ben: The folks from the freighter are allegedly more dangerous than the Others ever were. We know that Sayid works for Ben in the future, and Hurley's helping Locke trick Jack and Kate.
7. We get more episodes: Lindehof and Cuse were only supposed to do 8 episodes of "Lost." Now that the writers' strike is over, they'll do 13. Episode 7 will conclude with a cliff-hanger, after which the show will take a month-long break. "There will be very significant mysteries answered in the seventh episode," says Cuse. "The eighth episode is non-traditional and the start of something new."
8. More sexual tension: The love quadrangle between Jack and Kate, Kate and Sawyer, and Jack and Juliet promises delicious complications, with Jack telling Kate he loves her, Sawyer asking Kate to shack up with him on the island and Juliet saving the day for Jack.
9. The show travels: "Lost'"s opening graphic now includes the reflection of a city in the water. "We're taking the show off the island this season, to places like Berlin and Tunisia," says Cuse.
10. There is an end: J.K. Rowling convinced Lindelof and Cuse to set an end date for "Lost." "When we heard her say that she was only writing seven [Harry Potters], we were inspired," says Lindelof. "Franchise shows like 'Grey's Anatomy' don't need to have a beginning, middle and end. They can bring in new doctors, nurses and patients, but shows like ours need to have a place to go."

"Season 4 is about who gets off the island and the fact that they need to get back. Season 5 is about why they need to get back, and season 6 is about what happens when they get back."
===========
Hmm, so I guess season 4 is a season of effects, season 5 will be a season of causes.
Which means s4 is questions, s5 is answers.
So, you whiners who need answers will need to wait until next season.
11. Henry Ian Cusick. :)
I'm pretty sure this is the first official season six spoiler! Now we know they do get back to the island. I wonder if "present time" will be abandoned in future episodes?
Dear Damon,
Ya know, Sun & Jin & Claire are characters fans have loved from the beginning, too. (However, thank you for recognizing that Sayid & Hurley are great characters who deserve attention. *pokes third season*.)
Sincerely,
Bonasi
P.S.: Just so ya know, Juliet & Desmond are characters fans have grown to love since the beginning.
P.P.S: Still hate the Quadrangle.
General,
Ooo! I like the overall series set up! With regular size seasons, it would never work, but with shorter seasons, I don't think there's a risk of it being drawn out. So seasons four and five will be about getting rescued. I have a feeling that the season finale of season five will have one timeline tell the story of the ultimate rescue and one timeline tell the story of the actual return. Only they can't be talked about as "present" and "future" because by the end the future will have become the present and the present will have become the past. Then season six will be the bad ass final throw down. Nice!
Ken Leung, Ken Cheung, whatever...
Well, jin and sun are on the death list. One of them will die on 406.
So basically, s4 is yet another useless season. In that case, I'm glad the strike meant s4 had to be shortened, no one deserves to suffer another full season of pointless dragging-out. What ever happened to the episodes that would "even satisfy the haters"? Signed, a whiner who needs answers.
Actually of the Oceanic 6 it looks like there were originally going to be 8. In Jack's speech at Kate's trial he said "only 8 of us survived". So who were the other 2 and what happened to them? Is one of them in the coffin in TTLG?
the other to are not part of the Oceanic 815 survivals... I suppose they are Desmond and Juliet
the other two are not part of the Oceanic 815 survivals... I suppose they are Desmond and Juliet
So what's the final word about airing of episode 8? ABC says 8, break, then 5. But like this article and some others keepsaying 7, break then 6 episodes. Which is it?
7 episodes, break of 6 weeks then the last 6 episodes starts on april 24th, for a total of 13.
So we won't find out why they have to go back until S5? Will we at least find out how they were "rescued" and what happened on the island? I doubt it.
It also sounds like we pretty much know who dies (they have narrowed it down to 2 characters).
Hey Dark, do you have a confirmation on the remaining schedule?
Hey Dark, do you have a confirmation on the remaining schedule?
As far as I'm aware...
Episodes 1-7 air as planned.
then 6 week break
Episodes 8-13 air weekly starting on 24th April at the later time of 9pm-10pm
So, this article is saying that the character who dies is one of the Oceanic 6. Did I read that right?
Interesting.
I can't believe the "go back" thing is only Season 6. I can't believe how they are stretching this... I thought that at least the go back would happen this season finale... :(
11. Sawyer...:)
I thought they were going back in season five. Shame he forgot that Charlie was loved from the beginning and I guess he's telling fans of Claire, Sun, Jin and Desmond that they could just pack up and leave now because they're going to be killed or neglected. Nice.
Season 5 is about why they need to get back, and season 6 is about what happens when they get back!!
swweeeeeeeet at least 5 and 6 wont be useless and boring!
and i thought they said that this season would be the most violent? oh really?
I don't think what was said means we have to wait until season 5 for an answer. If season 4 is about getting off the island and the fact that they have to go back, that is something that was set up at the end of season 3. Just as with that, I would expect the end of season 4 to set up the why and give us some kind of large reveal/clue similar to Jack/Kate getting off the island in the season 3 finale and Jack wanting to go back. Based on what we saw in the last finale, I think we're going to get something huge.
My prediction for the finale is that it will be multiple off-island flashfowards culminating with a surprising on-island flashfoward that sets up the "why they need to get back".
I thought that there were to be 16 episodes, so if we are only getting 13, will they make up the other three in the next 2 seasons?
got my answer from Michael Ausiello, TV Guide
What came out of your meeting with ABC today?
Cuse: Damon [Lindelof] and I are going to try to make five more episodes before the end of May, which is ambitious. But we've found ourselves in a situation where we had eight episodes of story planned, and we're going to try to fit that into five hours of the show. Even though it's going to be very hard to execute, we felt like any less would be doing a disservice to the story we had planned. We really want to give the fans the best possible experience and ending... to Season 4.
Any chance that the first of the five episodes will air the week after that last pre-strike episode — thus eliminating any scheduling gap?
Cuse: No, there's probably going to be four weeks between the airing of the first batch of episodes and our new episodes.
What will happen to the three "lost" episodes? Will they roll over into next season's 16, or will they vanish forever?
Cuse: Damon and I remain committed to producing the 40 additional hours of the show that we promised. We haven't figured out exactly when we'll put those other three on, but we're not eliminating them from the show. You will get those three episodes downstream.
Um, I'm a fan Mr. Lindelof, and the ONLY character I've consistently liked from the very beginning is Sun.
When Jack said that there were 8 survivors he says right afterwards that 2 of them died form injuries fromt he crash. They aren't anyone important
I don't think fans of the other characters should pack up and leave, he is just saying the main focus will be on those ones. Which, if you really think about it, has been true all along.
you are wining way to much about they stretching things...
they are not stretching anything... a LOT of things happen per season...
It's just a general description of the seasons...
I think you'll find out why they have to go back on season 4 finale... and they get back on season 5 finale... something like that...
Each season has its "THING" or TOPIC...
SEASON 1 - The survivors...
SEASON 2 - The hatch
SEASON 3 - The others
SEASON 4 - The rescue...
the title of season 5 won't be the reason.... Once you find out the reason (Widmore, dharma, paik, whatever it is)... the title will change.... it's just a description not to give away anything...
I think they will be great..
stop whining!
Does DL's statement imply that characters like Ben, Desmond and Juliet are gonna be put on the back burner from now on because they haven't been there "since the beginning" of the show? Damn, these 3 characters have moved the plot forward the most.
Also, thanks for even more quadrangle drama. We surely can't get enough of that, can we?
Oh, what I am suppossed to do, if I am not fan of Jack, Kate, Sawyer, Hurley? Locke or Sayid?
Actually, I found first 3 increesingly annoying. I liked them in the begining, but they 've become so boring...
So If I like Desmond, Juliett, Ben? I guess i have to stop watching Lost?
Precious, Oh, I so agree with you. I hated those triangle - quadrangle thing. is it a Mexican soap, isn\t it?
i love this show, and i think its really funny how some of the die hard fans act like they should have an opinion on how the show progresses.
this show really has been amazing since episode 1, with the exception of Niki/Paulo, or whatever their names were interrupting the flow.
i know if i had any say in the writing of the show i'd eff it all up.
so Bravo seasons 5&6!!!
@ precious, olena & others: Do you feel personally attacked if your favourite character is not listed? Do you really think Damon will forget about these characters just because they are not mentioned? Come on, just think rationally!
^^ i didn't mean opinion, i meant more of "a say".... we all can have opinions.
1) I think the 'focus' point is probably taken out of context... Ben, Des, Juliet, Sun & Claire are all sure to still get their moments.
In this show, the focus has always largely been on Jack, Kate, Sawyer (despite fewer flashbacks) and Locke. All I see in this comment is that they have realised that Hurley and Sayid are really really liked and have been underused. And, they change their minds with stuff like that all the time. They probably havent thought about focus beyond this season.
2) Who knows whether they mean more screen time or more flashbacks. The two have not always been the same in the past.
3) I feel really good about the Season 4, 5, 6 plan. It was basically what I expected. On island they need to explain what is happening after the O6 leave, and the O6 definitely need more FF to show whats up with them. Plus, I just like knowing the overall plan.
Erm to the people worrying about Desmond, Julet etc. re-read the statement - it says from the beginning. Ben, Juliet, Desmond and all the new characters havehad far less on screen time (and less time to tell their backstories). They're focusing the main backbone of the story on these characters a la Ocenanic 6.
There'll be plenty of time for the other characters...think about it, Ben and Desmond are probably the most central characters to the island mythology and overall mythology, but the majority of fans love the original characters the most hence why they're saying they're gonna emphasis the story on them.
Anyway it's a cert now that either Jin or Sun will die in the future - I wonder which one. :p
@ precious, olena & others: Do you feel personally attacked if your favourite character is not listed? Do you really think Damon will forget about these characters just because they are not mentioned? Come on, just think rationally!
In the case of Claire, I'm really worrying about it. I mean, look how badly they have handled her reaction to Charlie's death. It wasn't anything more than a 10 second moment and that's it. I expect TPTB to kill her off anytime now. If your favorites don't belong to the A-Team on this show, you're ill served. If they spend just 1/10 of the time on Claire that they usually waste on their stupid triangle/quadrangle story line, I would be a happy camper. That thing needs to go because it takes the balance away from the show.

This is from ABC's latest schedule release. I'm still confused.
If I die before 2010, I'm gonna be so fucking mad.
precious, thats why you shouldnt pick favorites, it doesnt matter who your favorite is, every character has gone up and down and it will piss you off when they go down.
If your blaming claires uninvolvement on the triangle/quadrangle story line, you can stop whining because thats pretty much exactly what ruined some of my favorite characters in season 3...... being sawyer and kate (and locke but he has nothing to do with that) I cant stand kate anymore, too much screen time can be a bad thing too, you become sick of something thats shoved down your throat relentlessly, with no point.
Everyone will have there respective story lines with a beggining middle and end, with shitty parts and good parts, and the non "A-team" (love that reference) characters are still very important to the overall story, more so than the quatriangle.
season 1 and 2 was when you picked your favorites and they all went on there merry way together.
Now you just gotta look at lost as a whole, not just character to character, cuz that will drive you nuts. you gotta enjoy it for what it really is, and its not a story about 4 people, its a story about people in general. So im a fan of LOST not of one character, and youll enjoy it more if you look at it that way.
and seeing as though everyone on this show has pissed me off this season....i think the characters have changed way too much in a couple months island time...maybe they have the sickness.
I love the game plan for the next seasons. But I wonder if the 6th will have present island time( it could be that they get rescued that late, or they can show us what happens to the ones who don't get rescued after the 06 leave) and FF island time. Or just FF island time... It's gonna get weird.
Well said Dharmabeer!
fullycollapsed said: "If I die before 2010, I'm gonna be so fucking mad" - lol
It's awful, but I also thought about that :D
Wow, I thought about that too today!!! That's so crazy.
I think Michael is who bites it and he is the coffin guy too. I could be totally wrong though. Maybe Jin gets it too, but I still think Michael is in the coffin and he is working for Ben on the freighter. Either the freighter or Ben supplied him with an alias and that is why his name is different the obit.
"and season 6 is about what happens when they get back."
So, that sort of answers the "do they actually go back" question...
"8. More sexual tension: The love quadrangle between Jack and Kate, Kate and Sawyer, and Jack and Juliet promises delicious complications..."
God, please just end it!
Man, anyone who says any of the seasons are "useless" should consider themselves illiterate. A story isn't only about providing answers. If you want that, wait for plot summaries and don't bother watching the show, ever reading a book, or watching a movie. There's so much more to the experience of fiction than plot devices.
I guess this all but confirms that Jin is dead and Sawyer is safe for now.
However, I wouldn't say season 4 is useless just yet. I think it will be quite a useful season. I think you are too quick to write it off. I think season 4 will be PACKED with answers. Not yet, but in the episodes after episode 8. Those last 5 eps. will be terrific.
Season 4 will have answers - just not the answer to 'why does Jack want to go back'
I get the feeling I'm among the few that enjoy the journey more than the destination. The "answers" no longer prey on my mind. Somehow after the hatch was opened and I saw the Orientation film, the answers didn't seem as important. I enjoy the journeys of the characters (some more than others) and if answers come along the way, great, but if they don’t, that’s fine too. My only frustration is the wait between episodes and the long hiatuses. I'm good with the 10 reasons to love Lost, although when the end comes (reason 10) I'll be so sad. Well I guess I could always catch up on my reading.
Actually Nikki/Paulo wasn't the worst episode of the show so far. It was the early S2 Sun flashback where she is searching for her ring.
'This "Oceanic 6" make it off the island, but one will die - exactly who will be revealed this season.'
Goodbye Jin, I think based on this and the other teasers
Here's my guess on how the FF/FB works in the upcoming seasons
"Season 4 is about who gets off the island and the fact that they need to get back."
FF - Showing the lives of the Oceanic 6
Present time - Meeting with the freighter gang to the Oceanic 6 leaving
"Season 5 is about why they need to get back"
FF - Oceanic 6 work together to get back to the island
Present time - how the oceanic 6 settled back in the real world (eg. people's reaction when they were found, how sayid got recruited by Ben)
"Season 6 is about what happens when they get back."
FF - no more FF
Present time - Oceanic 6 back on the island
It does look like Jin is the next Lostie we will see die. My guess is suicide. We have already know that Jack attempted suicide and that the person in the coffin (probably Michael) also committed suicide so it does seem a general theme amongst those who leave the Island.
they better do some on island ffs, thats what I really want to see. lockes would be outta this world. Imagine if they did one way way in the future! man i hope they give the on island survivors the same respect as the oceanic 6, im already bored with there storys. Jacks was by far the best, the rest are pretty medeocre. But thats not to say there not going to prove me wronge here soon.
Dana23, I totally agree with you!
Big trouble ahead for Kate. How's she going to go back to the island without violating her probation? Unless she means to go there for good...
Does anyone else think that Ben is the person in the coffin? We now know that he gets off the island, and I can't see him having any close family and friends... (hence why Jack was the only one at the funeral). Also if he is playing 'puppet master' to the oceanic 6 (and islanders) this would explain Kate saying "why would I go to the funeral?", and also why Jack is so keen to go back to the island ("We have to go back") - now that Ben is dead there is nothing stopping them (no threats etc...)
Sorry if this makes no sense!
how is ben a threat that they get back, i think he would help them if anything, he does have access to ways of getting back and forth, and he and sayid are protecting the ones back on the island. I can see that being why jack is so upset though, if bens dead, then he has no sources left that know where the island is and a way to get there.
I thought it was going to be rose in the coffin myself.
Rose?! wow, i comepletely never considered her to be in the coffin.
and Darmabeer, what makes you think Ben and Sayid were PROTECTING the people still on the island.
i got the impression they were killing off the people responsible for some sort of coverup concerning the crash, and the island and everything.
the more comments i read here, the more confused i get.
"This "Oceanic 6" make it off the island, but one will die - exactly who will be revealed this season. "We've made a choice to focus on the characters that fans have loved since the beginning - Jack, Kate, Sawyer (Josh Holloway), Locke (Terry O'Quinn), Sayid and Hurley," says Lindelof."
I assume these two sentences weren't meant to sound as connected as they do BUT Lindelof is an ass if he thinks these are the only characters that have been loved since the beginning.....gee I must be hallucinating then with my ardor for Charlie and my broken heart or the fact that I like Claire, Jin and Sun.....what a turd.
funny how he says theyll focus on sayid kate jack hurley sawyer nd locke when its lookin like either sawyer locke or both wont even have a fb/ff episode this season hmmm
