«Oldest ‹Older 1 – 200 of 253 Newer› Newest»No Michael?
My guess would be Ben then.
It's sad, but I bet it's Desmond. With that spoiler about him at the funeral and stuff.
Dark you are a wicked man!! :D
please GOD dont let it be Locke
Sayid
Of course. no Michael, his already dead on the Island
It has to be Des. His hair was cut in one of the last few episodes. I wasn't sure how all of that would pan out.
Oh man! Not Michael? Wow. My guess is Ben, then.
I'm afraid that i agree that its desmond....that really pisses me off....i can't believe it....it makes sense though....the parlor is in L.A.....and Desmond met Jack in L.A. when they were running on the steps in that baseball park,or football stadium or what not....and he has no family there so that is why no one would come and see him....plus the whole thing that Henry Ian Cusick was spotted there.....words cannot express how depressed i am.....
Why are people thinking Sayid??? He was one of the Oceanic 6, he would be known. He was not using an alias. Plus he is a muslim. He would not have that kind of funeral. I am terrified for Desmond.
Ben.
Dark: you will have the answer behind "Are you sure?" buttons, right?
WTF??? WTF??? WTF??? Jacob? Nobody else pointed out a WTF, so am I the only person surprised by this?
Please no Locke or Desmond :-(
I'm going to be sick to my stomach until I know my main man has been eliminated from this list. Dammit.
dark thanks for this poll. dont know if you did it cos of my suggestion but thanks anyway! :)
and you clearly didnt hear our pleas to NOT put sawyer and des on the list!!! meanie! lol :)
i voted alpert cos no one has really guessed him yet and it would be very interesting. plus jack would be upset cos alpert can leave and return to the island as he pleases. although it would raise the question how can someone die who doesnt even age.
Im thankful its not Michael because that would be bad story. But please do not let it be Desmond! Odd that Jacob and Alpert would be on there, hmmm.
Got to go with my choice since TTLG, Ben. In TTLG Jack was battling Ben throughout the episode and to have Jack go to a funeral in the same episode that Ben was trying to tell him (pratically begging him) not to call the boat, it seems fitting that it would be Ben.
Can't see it being Desmond-TPTB have invested so much in the character and his relationship with Penny.would be a really bad move-but I suppose they know that no one would expect it so......

I think it is Sayid. He killed himself when he realized he had to kill Penny. So sad...
>>Why are people thinking Sayid??? He was one of the Oceanic 6, he would be known. He was not using an alias
Because he changed his identity - became a killer for Ben. After Sayid killed some people who was behind Oceanic 815 conspiracy, I think Widmore (or Abandon or whoever) wants to find him and killed him
Sayid lost all his family. His beloved Nadia is dead....
if it's desmond, that makes it easier for me to accept ben killing penny. i'm okay with that. besides guys, he's jesus, he'll be back.
To everyone saying it's Sayid or Desmond...
Why would Kate be offended at the thought of attending their funeral?
To everyone saying it's Sayid or Desmond...
Why would Kate be offended at the thought of attending their funeral?
If it is Desmond we still don't know the time frame of the flashfowards. It could be that we still have a couple of years of story left to tell for him. He is by far one of my favorites and I will be sooooooo sad to see him go.
I'm really surprised so many people are voting for Sawyer.
The fact that Kate was cheerfully carrying out some promise for Sawyer in SNBH is not consistent with her being hostile about attending his funeral.
But, then, when have the writers ever been consistent. I suppose her hostility could have been a misdirect.
Just a thought, the only two characters in both polls that Dark put up today were Locke and Desmond, so it has to be one of them, right?
Oh... wait... and Sawyer, too, so it has to be one of the three of them, right?
Another thing, Des being at the funeral place with no other actors is a good thing. If he was in the coffin then wouldnt another Actor (Matthew Fox perhaps) be there too. The fact that it was only Desmond at the funeral home could mean that he went to visit whoever was in the coffin. It could of been after Jack was there or Desmond asked the funeral director not to tell anyone he was there.
I'm still scared though, Jack did have a spirtual bond with Desmond when they first met running in the stadium. Desmond in a way made Jack believe in miracles.
No Desmond, Nope, No, No way. I still havent gotten over Charlie:(
areallybiglostfan-I agree Kate has would not have been against attending Sayid or Desmond's funeral.the fact she reacted as she did points more to Ben,Locke,Alpert-not sure about Jacob! and of course-it's just not sawyer!! :)
Last night I narrowed it down in my own mind to Ben and Sayid. Then I wondered wouldn't Jack and Kate be surprised to learn that Ben had left the island?
To save myself another mental rubik's cube, I've gotta go with Sayid.
I'm sticking with my theory that it's Ben, having faked his own death.
the only ones from the list i could see kate reacting to as she did in TTLG are Ben or Alpert...and jack being upset, but moreso because now he "can't get back" makes me think it's one of those 2. i just hope it's not Dexs but if so, that there's another twist that makes it all OK...like, they can go back in time and save him!!!
daisy - i agree. that is why it isnt sawyer. along with the fact that many people wont watch anymore if sawyer dies. i honestly have to say i dont think i would want to watch without him in it. :(
so IF its sawyer, my wacko theory is that it is a clone and that he is actually alive.
Can anyone confirm whether the newspaper clipping that Jack was reading on the plane and that, when enlarged, gave some details about the person in the coffin remains accurate? Or has that information been thrown out the window?
The person in the casket has to be someone that A) was pretty desparate to die (what with the hanging and all) and B) someone that no one in the real world would have cared for (as only Jack came to the funeral).
The first one that I thought of was Locke (if he was kept away from the island forever) or Sayid (Nadia's death plus all the assassinations). I don't see Ben resigning himself to suicide, as he always seems to have some sort of out set up. Desmond seems odd, as you would think that Penny would have shown up (if alive) or Kate would have gone (what possible vendetta could she have against Desmond?). The rest are a bit out there.
Locke is my guess, as he was supposed to be in the coffin anyway.
I've said Ben or Locke since last year's finale and I guess I'll stick to it. Since it "shocked" Dark I will go with Locke even though that raises a ton of questions.
renee: TPTB said to disregard it, it's just a prop.
i just had a thought. kate is holding a gun to richard in the promo. so she obviously doesnt think much of him and woudlnt care if he died right??? so maybe it is him. that woudl explain why dark said he was shocked cos i think richard is someone who hasnt been suggested before. :)
For me its Desmond Dark said it even shocked him. If it was ben then it wouldnt be that shocking and dont see it being ben shocking Dark. As most peoples guesses were either Mike or Ben so IMHO its desmond.
Also dark any idea when Part 2 & 3 synoisis will be coming thanks.
I was sure he was Michael!
At this point, the only one possible is Ben, cause I couldn't explain Kate's reaction for the others.
I think it is Desmond as he had no family or connections to anyone left outside the island. No one else would have gone and he had become a malicous killer. Maybe he was trying to kill Penny or someone else related to the island. Desmond could have been there to forgive him after finding out he was trying to kill Penny because of the hatred for Charles. Who knows? I wish Desmond was a more active character, he and Sayid are my favorites and they should be the leaders, not Jack & Locke
steve - i think it will be sunday.
I'm sorry, I had Desmond on the brain. I ment Sayid
I think it can't be one of the ocaenic 6,considering that it would be a little bit more hyped on media rather than called as an anonymous death...therefore sayid's out of the list for me.
The more I think about it, I think it's Sayid.
Kate seemed discusted with the suggestion by Jack that she might attend the funeral, Not one of those people on the list would provoke that reaction at the current moment in time (island time) from Kate so obviously something happened for that to be the case.
Didn't the article say he had a teenage son though...
Can't be Sayid as Muslim funeral instuctions are very precise.
It has to be Ben. Outside chance of Locke. One or the other. All the other choices are totally implausible.
My thoughts:
Desmond (If it's Desmond) is killed by Sayid when Sayid finds out he has a connection to Widmore. Honestly, though, I hope it's not this, which is why...
I'm saying Alpert. It would be a major shock to see the guy who hasn't aged in the coffin, and it would be a big shock to Jack considering Alpert would be a key person to getting back to the island. If it's Alpert, it makes me think Widmore's goons got to him.
[If it's true what I'm hearing and] DarkUfo is shocked and Kate does not want to go to the funeral then it must be Locke.
The other posibillity could be Ben
It's not Michael. That's good news. I think it's Ben...
I'm afraid it'll be Desmond :( I hope they don't. They've built him up so much... it'll be such a waste of a great character... but all those rumors going around really point to it being him.
What if by this time Ben has already killed Penny and this is why Des hangs himself? ? ? ? ?
"Didn't the article say he had a teenage son though..."
the article doesnt matter. darlton have said they will change it. they had to use something, and i'm sure they didnt expect us to analyse it so closely. or maybe they did, but in that case it was just a red herring.
Alpert could be shocking too, but I can't see how he would get even alittle close to Jack - I mean as close that Jack would see an alias in him and would cry in loosing his possible aid.
damn it, this is too cruel ;///
Sayid or Ben eventually
It has to be somebody how made it off the island. We know Sayid did. and now we can believe the same for Desmond, who was not an Oceanic Six, so he was not part of the group or media experience. I would say either Sayid or Desmond
I voted for Richard. I don't know why, but all the other names wouldn't be surprise for me rather than Richard - if I were to see him in the coffin, I'd go WTF moment!
I say it's Ben in the coffin.
I think its Alpert. That is so our of left field. Why would Dark even add it? Also, for those who read the spoilers for part 1 can see why Kate would be hostile to him.
I'm calling it. Richard Alpert makes a deal with the losties and that is how they get off the island. Jack sees he is dead, and that is why is so pissed because he know he was his only way back to the island.
Just because someone dies in the finale and someone is in a coffin in the finale doesn't mean they're one and the same.
Sayid will probably be in the coffin.
Michael will probably die on-island after a brief reunion with Walt - he's down as a guest for the finale parts 2/3 - the reunion probably wont be real time, instead probably a reunion with a younger Walt, on island, after The Orchid station unsticks the island in time (Michael see's Walt from the past when he still loves him, and Michael promises he will get Walt off the island) and moves the island's physical location (And thus removing anyone who isn't meant to be there, Keamy, Michael.)
That would make Michael's story come full circle, he'll have done everything he promised Walt, got him off the island and made peace with the island.
If it's Ben and he's gone for good(it sounds silly btw,I know, but this is Lost) then I'm done with the show,I'm afraid=(
I've been saying Richard, so Alpert is my guess.
It's clearly Michael.
Leaving him off the poll is silly.
Didn't Kristen say ages ago, that Damon told her at a party that it was Locke? I figured he must have been joking with her, but now I'm not so sure.
Locke makes the most sense, particularly after the last episode.
@ bachikarn
That's a great-sounding theory. One source did say people would go ballistic when they found out who rescues the Oceanic 6. The only problem I see is why would Desmond be there? I don't think they've ever even met :/
Question: If a Muslim man was killed in another country and there were no family or friends to hand, what would be the procedure? Is there any possibility Sayid would be taken to a funeral home for a viewing before possibly returning to his homeland? I honestly don't know.
Sayid is a Muslim so he wouldn't have a funeral at a church.
Just thinking out loud, my feelings on the candidates:
Ben fits certain things we know (apart from the "prop" obit, which I'm just ignoring per everyone's advice): Jack knows him well enough to find his death significant, especially if he thinks it means he won't make it back to the island, and KAte certainly has reason to disdain him. Plus he's a nobody in the "real" world, so an anonymous funeral makes sense. And there are certainly any number of ways he could meet his end, anywhere on the globe, including suicide if his campaign against Widmore fails. But there are too many stretches about this particular location: why this neighborhood in LA? It doesn't quite wash with me.
I agree with everyone who points to specific Muslim funeral rites and Sayid's notoriety effectively eliminating him from consideration, plus I can't see Kate being quite so cold about him.
I also see no reason why Kate would react the way she does if it's Desmond, or why he'd have an LA burial...if he has no family, why give him a viewing/burial at all? Esp. in the US?
Jacob--How the hell would anyone, including us, even be able to id the body? No way.
Sawyer--How much time has elapsed between the end of SNBH and the casket? Surely not enough time for Kate to completely lose any feeling she had for Sawyer...she was still trying to protect him from Jack a short time ago. Unless she reacts that way to reassure Jack that she no longer cares (and it they're not together, what's the point?) this doesn't make much sense to me. Though certainly Sawyer would not get a big deal of a funeral anywhere and if Cassidy happened to be in LA I could see her ponying up for something simple for the father of her kid.
I wish I could put my money on Alpert, but I can't figure out why Jack or Kate would give a shit one way or another, unless tonight's face-off is a very significant one indeed.
Man, I sure have a bad feeling about this. I really feel like my main man is the strongest candidate, based on his story arc, his lack of family, his last place of residence, and the reactions of Jack and Kate. And it would certainly set up a "How the Hell!" for the next 2 seasons. Plus, if Christian is both dead and not dead...seems like the best candidate for that status would be... since he's already been hanging out with one or two of the undead... no... I can't say it. I refuse to believe it. (Reaching for the Tums)
It won't be Michael in the coffin. That means he would be brought back with the Oceanic Six. That means there would be a hoard of news reporters at the funeral.
That means his mother would have to be there to keep up appearances, as the outside world aren't supposed to know about Michael's backstabbing. If Michaels mother went the funeral she would've received a big payout by Widmore to keep quiet about the island.
it cant be Locke, he has his hero issue to resolve :D
Desmond and Locke had their time in the hatch but is that relevant enough for Des to be visiting him and mourning his loss? I don't think so.
Joshesmommy makes a good point. At this point in time, Penny could already be dead. Really, that makes the most sense, because she would certainly visit him if he was dead, no?
Kudos if you are right!
Interesting options.
My initial thought had always been Locke. I never really bought the Michael aspect. I thought it could've possibly been a situation where Locke was forced off the island, and his physical ailments came back, leading him down a dark and lonely path. It is still possible that somehow Locke fails, and thus, there is a necessity for Jack to go back to the island, to be the island's savior. I've always felt that they were developing Jack and Locke in that respect, that is, as two options to save the island.
I'm not sure I buy Ben. I just don't see how they can get back to the island without Ben's help somehow. I know the island calls out to them, but how does Jack go back by himself. Not impossible, I guess, but it seems awfully difficult from a storyline perspective.
I have a hard time buying Sayid. Although I guess it is not impossible that something happens while Sayid is working for Ben. Perhaps he's sent to tell Jack how to go back, but Widmore's men intercept him? That said, don't buy it.
The idea of Jacob being the dead manw ould be somewhat hard to introduce within the framework of one episode, so I don't buy that.
Now, based off the spoilers, Alpert and Desmond do seem to be realistic possibilities in my mind, but that can't be discussed here.
Wasn't there a spoiler somewhere that mentioned at Christian's funeral, a letter was read, written by Christian, that mentioned his work with Mittelos?
If Christian had a connection with Mittelos, he had a connection with Alpert. As a result, Jack would have a reason to go to the funeral - especially considering Alpert's connection to the island. The big question, however, is how the person actually died. If it's Alpert, who or what killed him? Is he even really dead? Is it all for show? Did he die because he couldn't get back to the island for some reason?
The more I think about it... the more I feel it's Richard.
I really don't think it's Sayid. Wouldn't some press be there since he's one of the 06? Kate has nothing against him (to this point that is) and Hugo would have definately went to pay his respects. My guess is either Ben, Alpert or Locke. Ben and Jack locked horns, Jack and Locke has been defined as the major versus this season and we'll have to wait and see what Alpert has in store for the finale. My guess out of those 3 would be Ben. His mother and father are dead, no family, Kate can't stand him and Jack is neither "family or friend" but he was Jack's only way back to the island so that's why he's somewhat upset. Have to go with Ben, but this is Lost so who knows.
Oh, btw, my guess? Locke.
And to think all of those folks who took the mickey out of me for saying that it didn't make sense that Michael would have a funeral in LA...
I thought my reasoning was sound! Now I just don't know who's in there! Could it be Richard Alpert? Why would he be in there, and why would Kate care about him one way or the other?
Why not?
I've just contemplated, why each of the choices can't be in the coffin:
Sayid:
Kate would like to go to the funeral
There would be at least some press, because he is one of the O6
Jacob:
We would not recognize him
Jack has no connections with Jacob
Jacob is somehow beyond physical creature wich could die
(I think this option is the purest fun =))
Sawyer:
Kate would go to the funeral
Jack would not want to kill himself because of Sawyer's death
The coffin was too small =)
Alpert:
As I've said, can't see Alpert becoming close to Jack - at least as close that Jack would see a possible alias in him and cry so much because of his death
Desmond:
Kate would like to go tu the funeral
Jack would reffer to him as "a friend"
Ben:
There it goes - first difficulties, but I find some obstacles: Ben seems the last person who would ever kill himself - he is after his revenge, after Widmore now, he has work to do =)
Locke:
Not too much. He is my choice, as I've said.
surly - its not locke, dont worry, think about it. tptb create this thing science vs faith. if they kill off the whole faith side it would leave things very uneven, and would make us think that the science view is the right one, when i am pretty sure that both will be influencial in the end :) :) imo, your main man is safe. :)
If Sayid is so famous for being a member of the 06, why didn't the dude on the golf course recognise him? He looked like he'd seen a ghost when Sayid told him who he was.
Richard in the coffin is shocking?Unh?He has hardly appeared because of his commitment to Cane ,he has not even been a semi-regular this season.Richard would be a cop-out in that we hardly know him.The audience doesn't have the investment in the character that they do with the 815ers,Ben or even the Freighties.Ben on the other hand would make people go ballistic!Darlton do that and you will shock everyone to the nth degree.Locke was to be the original coffin man,but it seems that the TPTB wimped out.As much as I like Locke, that would have rocked.Besides, their original choice of Locke,I like Ben as a choice because that pulls the carpet out from under the show a bit.
As for Des,if Desmond ends up in the coffin, that would be terrible. He is arguably along with Penny one of the most beloved characters on the show .Their story is at the heart of the show now.I wonder if the producers would cut their nose to spite their face like that?Des still has potential and his story with Penny is not over so that would be a dissapointment to many.
Well, the most shocking to me would be Locke, though I would be heartbroken.
Here's some important points though when trying to figure it out:
- Can it be ANYONE from Oceanic 815? I mean if they came back, wouldn't there be ANOTHER big media stink and hence a big funeral? And if they came back in secret or under an alias, how would anyone be able to ID them for the obituary? How would Jack recognize the Name?
So it HAS to be a name Jack would recognize... Right?
I worry for Desmond in this case because he's the only one that wasn't involved with Oceanic who wouldn't be using an alias... But ANYONE would be better than Locke. He and Jack need to make it to the show's finale together. They can die there if necessary for the story :)
total trip if its richard!!!!! that would be shocking , im very disapointed its not jack!
Sawyer, Sayid and Desmond are out of the question, based on Kate's reaction.
Jacob is a silly choice.
The producers have said that Ageless Richard will play a large part in the next season.
That leaves Locke & Ben; and they both have fates larger than fodder for an end of season cliffhanger.
Michael atones for his sins against destiny and the Island lets him die. Period.
Locke being in the coffin is pure shark-jumpage, imo.
Well,
I'm trying to analyse this....
If it IS Desmond, wouldn't Penny be at the funeral? If is IS Des, and Penny's NOT there, then that means Penny is dead too somewhere...
We know from the spoilers that Des WAS involved in fliming, so either it was Des in the coffin, or Des was going to pay his respects, and the casket scene was filmed on a sound stage. Right, it's NO relative of Jack, nor is it his friend, also Kate couldn't give a shit - THAT narrows it down to Ben, Jacob, Locke or Alpert.
I'm going for Locke on this one.
I may be wrong, but right after TTLG last year, I think I remember a report from Kristin saying it was Locke who was supposed to be shown in the coffin... The writers changed their minds at the last minute. They tought it would be a better idea to hide John's face.
No Michael...YES!
That means that he probably will die on islans which means Juliet is safe??
And why should it be Desmond? If it is him, they wouldn't need him on the set imo. Jack will not open the coffin. He will leave. There is no need to actually lay a person into it.
What if desmond does something that makes Kate not like him. Then if they let dez and penny meet, ben kills penny. I could see dez hanging himself then. That would be so tragic I don't even want to think about it though.
Lets assume it is Sayid.
1. If he is killing for ben then he most likely uses assumed names like Ben does. So when they found his body the Id on his body had this name. They wouldn't know if he was a Muslim or not.
2. Who said he killed himself. The hanging could have been done to make it look like he hung himself. Yet someone else did it.
3. Kate might not have wanted to go because she knew he was killing people for Ben.
4. Jack might not have considered him a friend. Just because you hang out on an island with someone doesn't automatically make you friends.
5. Jack might want to go back to the island now because he wants to kill Ben, thinking he had something to do with Sayid's death.
It could be Locke.
He stopped Desmond from killing himself, thus why he'd be there.
It could be Alpert.
"Ageless Alpert" is a key story next season, meaning that if he is dead in a flashforward, and is seen as "ageless" something has to happen next season to stop him being ageless.
If it's Des, then Penny's dead and Widmore paid for the funeral out of respect for his daughter.
I voted for Ben however, Jack and Kate don't seem to know that Ben is off the island, unless something happens between now and then where Ben reveals himself to both of them in L.A.Still, who would pay for a funeral for Ben, he's supposed to be incognito.
Sayid doens't make much sense either since, if someone were to have a funeral for him, it would be in the muslim tradition, not in some funeral parlor in L.A.
Damn, I was so convinced it was Micheal because of the (now considered)phoney news clipping.
Who knows Richard Alpert well enough to care much less pay for a funeral service?
Jack might feel responsible if it were Locke because he didn't believe Locke when he tried to warn Jack not to contact the freighter. Locke makes the most sense but, he's become such a central character to the island, I can't see him leaving it unless he's forced to somehow.
Jacob?????????
Kate would certainly be very upset if it were Sawyer so, I don't think it's him.
Good points there Richard. I would add that Desmond and Sayid definitely have a bond because of their experiences on the freighter. Remember that moment:
"Thank you, Sayid. It was enough."
That was a powerful moment between these two characters. But I fully admit there are inconsistencies regarding Sayid's faith etc.
RICHARD,
From their closeness on the island, I think Jack holds Sayid in the highest regard and would consider him a friend - UNLESS Sayid angers the rest of the O6 in working for Ben.
Another reson I DON'T think it's Ben is, why would Desmond go to the funeral? Has Des ever met Ben?
i dont think jack even knows richard
Go to youtube and rewatch the final episode from last season - especially Jack and Kate at the airport. Jack tried to off himself but wasn't allowed, he's plagued by a feeling that he made a terrible mistake there, and feels compelled to return, to right it. He wants the peace that Micheal has - death.
"The producers have said that Ageless Richard will play a large part in the next season."
this doesnt rule him out at all. he can play a huge part and still be in the show ISLAND time, but he can still be the man in the coffin 3/4 years down the line :)
Nooooooooooo not Desmond!
I'll seriously cry.
If Desmonds visits the funeral parlor. He would know that much about Ben, until the finale, right?
Desmond may be paying his respects to Sayid as they became close friends on the Freighter.
The only people that Kate & Jack don't like are Ben & possibly Locke.
When I saw Jacob's name, I thought wtf!!
Ah, sod it, I go for Sayid. Maybe Kate doesn't wanna go & pay her respects cos Sayid broke the secret deal thing that all the Oceanic 6 talked about.
On a side note, all the people on the list seem way too big for that coffin. I av always thought it wud be Walt.
"this doesnt rule him out at all. he can play a huge part and still be in the show ISLAND time, but he can still be the man in the coffin 3/4 years down the line"
Jack doesn't know him, and even if they meet briefly in the final episode I doubt his death would affect him.
I'm so confused on so many issues here.
Desmond - Why would he be using an alias? Why would he be buried in LA? Why would Penny not attend?
Richard Alpert - Um...this guy had a chance of not even being on the series this season. Isn't he not only on because his show failed?
Jacob - Um...do we even know who this guy is? Does Jack or anyone?
Sawyer - Why would Kate not go? She wasn't mad at him in SNBH. Can't see what he could do that would make her not want to go.
Sayid - I see this as highly doubtful. Why would he be buried in LA? Why would he not have a muslim funeral?
It must be Locke or Ben. I don't see how it would be anyone else.

n - yeah, thats true, but at least 2 years will pass in which jack and richard have the chance to meet. maybe richard will offer him a way back to the island but is upset cos he dies and now cant get back. :)
It is Jacob AKA Christian Shepherd
I'm clueless. Dude DARK!! You Have To Give Us An ARE YOU SURE NOW!!! The show will be aired my time in like 4 hours is it confirmed that we know who is in the coffin tonight? or over the meat and potatoes of part 2 and 3?
Per Dark's intro, we're not going to find out until the second two-hour installment (Parts 2/3).
If it's Alpert or Jacob, they've got a whole heck of a lot of explaining to do as to why Jack would be distraught, Kate would be irked and why either would be buried in LA...
I don't think that Des has met Ben, or Ben would have a constant and would be able to get to Penny.
So I highly doubt it.
ok, just my take for all that are worried that it is locke in the coffin: what is the point in making all this fus about locke's connection to the island him being special and so on in episode 11, just to kill him in the finale (2 episodes later)? in my humble guess locke is safe. if he is indeed in in it is probably a vision of the island but locke himself is not dead; not by a long shot. same holds for ben/richard. saywer is safe for all the reasons listed above and he just doesn't strike me as the suicidal type. sayid and desmon do however....my money is on one of them, i really can't be sure which one, it could go either way...
"n - yeah, thats true, but at least 2 years will pass in which jack and richard have the chance to meet. maybe richard will offer him a way back to the island but is upset cos he dies and now cant get back. :)"
If it turns out that Christian had a connection with Mittelos, I'd think Jack would have a very good reason to go to Richard's funeral.
Still - the question remains, if it's Richard: How does an ageless man die? If it's him, my theory is that he's caught off the island, and he can't return. The island is the source of his immortality, so to speak. By not being on it, he becomes mortal or capable of falling victim to a disease/injury/etc.
Anyone know when Dark is gonna tell us? I've seen this page updated 2 times today and now I can't move from notebook. Or is there somewhere else to look on the web? If he knows there has to be other sources..
It's probably Sayid, he really has different name Ben gave him after his last action in the economist. I don't know how, but Jack with Kate know his new name and what he is doing and that's why she doesn't want to see him. I can also totally see him killing himself, because he just can't do that for Ben anymore, he was quite desperate in economist. But where the hell that teenage sun comes from?
brad - he will tell us sunday i think. thats what he told me when i emalied him :)
"Per Dark's intro, we're not going to find out until the second two-hour installment"
Is dark always right?

OhmyGah! (throws self on floor next to desk)
Dark, well done for making us absolutely nuts and loving it! I've been reading comments and refreshing pages all day. So much for work... I have no idea what to think anymore. At this point, i'm mostly concerned for Desmond...
I still think the coffin is going to be a WTF moment - and I can't help but think who is in the coffin, why Kate reacts so strongly about why she didn't go, and why Jack wants to kill himself over it relate to an event (s) that are going to happen in the 2 hour finale.
I am really hoping it's not Desmond or Locke... =(
Dark, here's an idea can you say how it is revealed, do we see the body in the coffin, or is it just revealed through conversation?
I voted Alpert because I think they thought everyone was dead back on the island once they are off. Seeing Alpert's coffin makes Jack aware that the islanders are safe and he has to go back. But the whole Desmond thing has me a bit nervous for the Brother.
How could no one visit Desmond? Everyone likes Desmond... Kate doesn't "hate" him, but Jack wouldn't cry about him.
My money's on the fact that it has to be an Oceanic survivor. Locke, Sayid, or Sawyer.
Locke is still on the island, as is Sawyer (?). So does that leave Sayid?
Sayid and Desmond? The two protagonists of the show as determined earlier in a different comment thread?
Holy Crap... No Michael.
@ Isabelle
This coming sunday? Wow.
the selection here disappoints me, dark, as it wouldn't shock me if all of these characters were in the coffin. would be rather a tight fit, though.
at the least you've narrowed the playing field -- and so, thanks.
I think it'll be Alpert. Here's why:
He was the "head" of the Milettos (sp?) Bioscience thing, so there would problely be a story about his death.
To those saying it being a certain person doesnt explain her reaction why do they have to explain her reaction the moment the person in the coffin is revealed this is lost were talking about afterall.
We dont no how far in the futher the final scene in TTLG was look at the whole aaron situation we didnt no why kate had aaron could this be another situation like that were we dont no why kates reacting like that for a while.
So since this pretty much guarantees that Michael isn't in the coffin, what do people think his role would have been in the season 3 finale? We know the writers wanted him in, but the actor didn't want to for whatever reason. I can't see a possible place for him in the finale if he wasn't in the coffin, unless they changed the story around.
Let's use the process of elimination based on spoilers that we've all read:
(1) Locke and Sawyer are confirmed to be alive on the Island in the future by TPTB. They're out.
(2) Sayid is O6 and his real name would have been published in the obit Jack had in TTLG. He's out.
(3) TPTB have stated that they have much more work to do to develop the Desmond/Penny love story. I think Des is safe for now.
That leaves Ben, Jacob(?!), and Alpert as the prime suspects. We can eliminate Jacob right away because that just boggles the mind. We know Ben and Alpert can get back and forth to the Island and we've seen Ben globetrotting in the future. My guess is that Ben is in the casket and Locke emerges as the new leader of the Others with Jacob's blessing.
Based on the size of the coffin the only two men that would fit seems to be Ben or Richard (they don't look very tall). It can't be Desmond. They offed Charlie in the Finale last year and that was more than enough of a tear jerker for me. Desmond dying at this point would just be too much.
I was thinking about the fact that the character in the coffin shocked Dark, that means that it is probably someone really unexpected. Of this list Ben, Sayid and Desmond have been mentioned on several occasions so, maybe, they can be ruled out. Of the last four, only two characters would justify Jack's reaction, i.e. Sawyer and Locke, but since Kate wouldn't be indifferent to Sawyer's death... I'm really afraid it could be Locke! I mean, that would really shock me!!
But I hope I'm wrong.
@ Norman... The obut from TTLG is not canon. Darlton confirmed the info in the obit was only a prop and would have to be changed to fit the story
Having both Sayid and Desmond on this list is making me very uncomfortable.
I voted Alpert because that would be the most interesting, but I fear for Sayid.
I really don't want it to be Desmond. But...if Ben is successful in his bid to kill Penny...I wouldn't be surprised if Desmond killed himself like original article from TTLG said. He almost did before Locke pounded on the Hatch.
NO! Not Desmond! Really depressing. I can't take it if it's Desmond. My absolute favorite!
But I don't think that Jack and Desmond were ever really good friends and that he'd kill himself over Desmond. And as Jack says on the bridge, "Please forgive me." Why would Desmond need to forgive Jack, at least as far as we know? And Kate doesn't hate Desmond.
I never though it would be Ben. But it makes sense in the context though I don't think they'll kill Ben since the show practically revolves around him now.
Locke? I think he is still a possibility. That would be shocking!
Its not Sawyer. Kate would go to his funeral.
Sayid as someone said was an 06 and too famous to die all alone like that. I agree with that.
Can Jacob be in a coffin?
But again, Alpert's inclusion in this list seems very telling to me. I never would have even thought him a possibility. So...hmmm...should I take a hint Dark?
I could see the coffin scene and the spectacular kiss scene being connected. What if, in a flash forward, Desmond is killed by Sayid while trying to save Penny's life? He take a bullet for Penny and they share a spectacular, final kiss before he dies. Sayid, after killing his friend, puts down his gun for good and vows to end his quest for revenge, setting him up for his real mission - help Jack save everyone on the island. Des would be the guy in the coffin, with Jack visiting his funeral.
What an incredible but predictable shocker for Ben to be in the coffin. He is one of if not the best and important roles on the show. Can you think of a more shocking shocker than it being Ben? It would make sense for him to die and for Locke to be the new leader for the new island time. Same island events rewound with Locke as the leader. That's how you "move the island". Put it back to the future like marty mcfly! lol
It's funny how people assume it is not Sawyer because of Kate's reaction and that she would go if it was Sawyer. We have no idea what has happened since they left the island so really it could be anyone. I definately don't want it to be Sawyer, but that would be one of the most shocking choices as everyone hear seems to count him out.
NO WAY ITS NOT DESMOND!!!!
It's Sayid!!!!!!!!!!, who Kate probably hates at this point because he has been working for Ben, killin folks and all. Desmond probably killed him to protect Penny.
This is why Dark was surprised, everyone already thought it would be Desmond because of previous spoilers, so what kind of a surprise is that??? Hmm, lets see......its not one!
Live on Brotha!!! Now i just hope that Death in the Other poll isn't Desmond because he is "the guy"
As far as I know Alpert wasn't an option for TPTB last year. Nestor Carbonell had other contracts. After Cane was cancelled, he became available. So could TPTB put Alpert character in a coffin without knowing that the actor playing him would be available now??
Wow I just gave myself a knew idea I haven't heard mentioned. BackToTheFuture movies... Lindellof/Cuse M J Fox fans? lol
for the 501st time: i read on multiple sites that last year michael was to be shown in the coffin! but they couldn't get him so the coffin was shown closed.
i think it is lame that now they change everything. i somehow feel cheated. they should clinge to their initial ideas...THEY CHANGED THE RULES!!!
The key to figuring out who is in the coffin is what Dark's mindset was when he put in the options. I don't think he would put the right one as the first option. I doubt he would put it as the last either. So ben and Alpert are out. He would have been careful not to put it directly in the middle, so I don't think it is Jacob. He would have put Sayid and Desmond together to confuse us, seeing as how they are on screen together most of the time lately. Locke is too far on the list, also too important for the island. Sawyer however is in the perfect position. He is just after the middle, not to draw to much attention, but is above locke and alpert which would draw attention away from him because they are so surprising. So my guess is Sawyer.
I'm sorry mom but, WTF?! NO MICHAEL????????
I like your thinking BigT. I'd be willing to bet that in the majority of cases, the true answer is rarely on top. I know my instinct would certainly be to bury it somewhere in the middle.
But Dark likes him some poker and you can never ever second guess those guys ;)
I like this spoiler, Dark...not too spoilery but intriguing enough that I won't feel so bad if I read it. Thanks Dark!
I am so pleased that Michael isn't in the coffin. Despite the unfortunate mess that occured with Ana Lucia & Libby (just about everyone on the island has had some unfortunate incidents...ahem..murder).
i never thought of this, but as you know the show is lost and whats makes the least sense sometimes makes the most. Well if you look at the choices of who is in the coffin, Richard Alpert is one them. Now this may not make any sense, but 1) The writers said he will be more prominent in the future of the show 2) The person has no family at the funeral, and as we see Richard has been ageless, appearing at Lockes birth, so perhaps his family is all dead because he was born along long long time ago, and 3) maybe he is able to live long because of something the island did to him, and jack thus realizes the same thing will happen to them, and then jack realizes the only way to not let that happen is to go back to island
..sorry I couldn't finish my last sentence. I'm at work and it's a beautiful day and everyone wants to go home and I gotta find a way for them to do that ...and read my Lost stuff too...lol
Back to Michael, I'm so sure that TPTB have developed an incredible story for Michael and Walt and I want to see it through - just like all the original Losties.
..loving LOST!!
i bet it's jacob. I think Charles Widmore is Jacob.
I don't think it's Sawyer cuz he stays on the island, not Sayid cuz his an Oceanic 6(there would b people and media at his funeral, or he wouldnt have this type of funeral at all!)Not Locke cuz Jack wouldnt go to his funeral, anyways i think Locke stays on the island. Isnt Jacob already dead?or his more then one person something like that? I dont think Alpert can die.......
Im really scared its Desmond :(
oh wait Ben did kill Charles Widmore...but his not on the list
ok i still think its Des
unless Widmore is Alpert
I'm guessing Sayid or Des.
Dark, are you gonna eliminate option one by one? Or are you going to tell us?
Look, Sayid is a well-known face in the US. Mr. Avellino (golf course guy) was Italian. Sayid's body would have been identified and sent to Iraq or a decent funeral home, not Hoffs Drawlar.
It's not Sayid.
its none from this list, makes no sense, its for sure michael
Im sorry if anyone has already posted this but heres my theory.
Locke does something in the orchid which causes him to teleport off the island. Because he is off the island he cannot walk and also he cannot find a way back to the island so he commits suicide.
it better not be des. i wont hav a favorite character (again).
lee golden - you stole half of my name!
I don't get why people say 'that makes no sense' about any of the options. We don't have all the information we need to say something doesn't make sense... and I don't think we will have all the information even when we find out... it will be a WTH? why? But we will understand later.
I'm most scared for Sayid and Des.
I don't understand why so many people are writing off Sayid because he's muslim: it's totally plausible that he was living under a false identity as Ben's hitman. If that's the case, there would likely be no family for the local authorities/whoever arranged the funeral to contact and they would not know necessarily know he was muslim and therefore to arrange a funeral in keeping with his beliefs. Also Hoffs Drawlar looks quite secular - no crosses/other christian symbols as far as I can see - the kind of place you might choose under those circumstances. I could totally see him becoming suicical because of his work for Ben (esp. if he's asked to kill Penny) and/or being bumped off by someone acting for Widmore. I can also see Des wanting to visit him more than anyone else on the list following their freighter bonding.
Regarding Des: I'm not totally convinced he's there to pay his respects. First of all because of the way the spoiler says he's dressed. Sounds very suspicious to me...when, apart from the awkward visit to Widmore's office in Flashes have we ever seen Des look that smart? I know he's not exactly all there at that point in time, but Jack goes to the parlour looking v srcuffy indeed. What about if something happened after we see we see Jack exit the room in TTLG...like him seeing a vision of Des that really throws and upsets him hand then he goes back in and asks the funeral director to lift the lid (to make sure he's not going mad)...
My theory? It's a "fake" funeral for one of the remaining castaways still stranded on the island. I'm sure Sun had a fake funeral for Jin (whom I refuse to believe is dead). Perhaps this is Sawyer's fake funeral?
Sorry, I should have added re. Sayid: Yes, he's a well-know face as an O6 but I think the TTLG FF is supposed to be 2-3 years after the 'rescue'. Plenty of time for exactly how he looks to fade in people's memories and for him to cut his hair and remove his facial hair etc.
Thanks Glinda for making me worry again. :) I was starting to buy the whole he was O6 and Muslim thing to make me feel better.
What a terrible picture you paint.
First of all, sorry for spamming but i ended up posting the comment on the other thread, but it makes a lot more sense here.
Don't know if it's been said before, as i didn't read all the comments, but regarding the coffin scene, i think Desmond being there actually makes some sense (though i hope it's not him).
I guess Penny somehow gets to the Island, may or may not find Desmond, Ben sees her there and fulfills his promess to Widmore by killing her.
"Future" Des end ups dead and alone because of that (either as a result of going against Widmore / Ben and getting killed or just because he lost his will to live, or something like that).
That would somehow explain jack's reaction, they were "kind of" close, Kate wouldn't give a damn since i believe she barely knows him.
Hurley could have been in the institution, or something, and obviously Penny being dead, she wouldn't be there (which could be the reason why Jack asks the funeral director if he's sure nobody showed up, maybe he didn't know Penny was dead - i think Jack knows about her being Desmond's girl, correct me if i'm wrong).
On the other hand, Jack does actually say he's neither friend nor family, and i believe he could consider Desmond to be somewhat of a friend... unless something happens in the Finale that changes his view on things, like Desmond trying to prevent the rescue from happening (which could once again explain Kate's indifference towards his death)
Anyway, it'll probably end up being Ben, as expected, and i've just been ranting for nothing hehe
Cheers.
i voted sawyer
i think it makes sense. jack saying neither to friend or family. plus i thought there were rumors or something where everyone speculated he was back on mainland. this may reveal that he is. of course dead makign more questions as usual.
but yeah. my two cents.
If Ben is the man in the coffin, what happens to the Ben/Widmore war story line? Who's gonna continue Ben's fight? Alpert? Juliet? There's no way Ben's in the coffin. Or at least I hope not.
Ok it isnt Richard Alpert, the producers have stated he will be featured in the next two seasons. Dont know how a character could be dead and still featured, especially since theyve said that the shows oof island timeline will continue past the point in ttlg.
It also isnt Sawyer. Darlton has said there would be more triangle in season six. Hes also not one of the six. Hes also not really involved in the Widmore hunt for the island game so he is safe.
It isnt Jacob. They had a chance in last weeks Cabin Fever to show us Jacob and they passed. So the reveal of showing us whose in the coffin in this finale and to have an audience make that connection is impossible.
It isn't Desmond. The producers have also indicated that he is and will continue to be a pivitol character. He has lots of stuff to accomplish like closure with Penny, one more scene with Mr. Widmore, an explanation of Mrs. Hawking perhaps. And they arent addressing those things in this finale. And if you suspect that they show someone dead in the coffin and then turn around and have them as a regular next season you are mistaken. The island people will be their own group, and the off island storyline will be their own group. The same way how Sayid and Des were on the freighter, and Locke and Ben were at new otherton this season. Desmond to me seems like he doesnt get left on the island in this finale. So he would be a part of the off island group of story in season five. Which the producers have said goes beyond ttlg, and features some back story. They wont have a character on, and give them a flashback, who has already died.
I agree with what people are saying about Sayid and his muslim funeral. But at the same time I see that if he was using an alias and killed, then couldnt he be given a different kind of burial? I dont want it to be Sayid but he seems the most ready character storywise. Nadia is dead. Hes become a hitman. I wouldnt be surprised if it was him, and the hitman aspect got kate to change her position on Sayid. But other people have better odds.
It very well could be locke. I think the actor playing him moved out of hawaii this season. I think weve seen more then enough of his backstory. But it is fishy how he gets off the island at this point. But I could forsee Locke saving Penny in some way in the finale and Desmond attends the service out of respect.
The most likely is Ben. We find out he has a son (if the newspaper is true) the hanging death is staged by whatever assassin took him out. And it fits very well with Jacks lose of a means back to the island and Kate looking incredulous at going to his funeral.
So in summary I'm saying it can only be Locke Ben or Sayid. And would it really be that bad if Locke went? Something needs to happen on the show to make Jack change and adopt some of Lockes positions to make him the full and true hero of the show that will resolve all this island stuff by the end of season six. Everyone wants the show to be about Ben and I think thats a mistake. The show started with Jack, has continued with forced and trite flashbacks and flashforewards further continuing that he is the main character of the show. So Locke fans or Ben fans, you should start to get prepaired with the idea that your fav characters are probably going to die before the show is done. Why couldnt it be in the fourth season finale?
I don't think Ben would be shocking to DarkUFO, but can imagine that Desmond kills him to save Penny, and that is why he is at the funeral -- to kind of see the man he killed and accept responsibility for the act, or something like that.
It can't be Alpert, because Jack doesn't have any kind of connection with him so the TTLG scene wouldn't make sense. Same with Jacob.
Locke or Ben would make the most sense for how Jack and Kate reacted to the death.
Kate would definitely go to the funeral if it was Sawyer.
I guess I'll go with Ben.
I'm feeling pretty confident that it's gonna be jacob.
Um, the answer to this was posted on spoilerfix.
This is a retarded poll. All signs are pointing toward Michael, yet he's not included. However, we do have the most unlikely possibilities, such as Sayid, Desmond, and even Jacob.
ATTENTION: IF YOU WANT THE ANSWER GO TO SPOILERFIX.COM SHEESH
Jenna I think you may be referring to Christian Shephard's funeral service. That's a different scene.
It cannot be Locke. Locke has just taken up the reins as the leader of the island. I think next season we will see Locke get more comfortable with his position, and Ben will either leave or be exiled, giving him a chance to seek revenge on widmore.
I always thought it would be Ben. The coffin scene is 2 years after the 6 have been off the island, that is plenty of time for Ben to get his revenge (kill penny?) and be hung by charles widmore. Jack would appear at the funeral because Ben was one of his only tickets back (and THIS is why he cries, not because he cares for Ben). Jack is neither friend or family to Ben (as he answers the funeral director in the funeral scene?).
I am leaning toward Alpert.
At first, I really had a hard time accepting that it could be Alpert. First of all, why would he die off island? Why would he BE off island? He seems like such an integral part of the islands history and characterization. I also couldn't understand why he would be the one that gets the 06 off the island, I don't see what he or the island would have to gain from their expulsion (especially since the island apparently wants the 6 back). Then I remembered that the next season is all about Dharma. The island is clearly working with the ghosts of the Dharma folk to lead Locke as it desires, so, has the island changed sides? The Others (with Ben at the helm) destroyed Dharma. Perhaps Ben AND Alpert are on the outs. The Dharma story might be easier to tell if Alpert AND Ben were out of the picture...
Why does this character's future death rule them out of the show? This is a rhetorical question. It doesn't. This show hopscotches around in time, so anybody who is dead can reappear or continue to appear as a regular cast member.
So you Locke and Ben lovers, relax. The fun will be finding out WHY this character died and what events transpired to the demise. And even more fun finding out how the dynamic of the show continues in this character's absence in the future timeline.
For me it's just obvious that it has to be Ben and that somehow he'll have turned out to be a GOOD GUY after all. Then it'll be up to our intrepid Lostaways who've survived the island -- so far Jack, Kate, Hurley, Sun, Sayid, Aaron and Walt -- to thwart whatever power (Widmore? Paik? Cigarette Smoking Man?) killed Ben.
Yeehaw. As soon as that casket opens, the REAL mad dash to the finish line begins.
I can't wait!!!!!
One more hour...
My thoughts:
Ben - this would be my guess, but then why would Desmond visit his funeral (as has been reported)? Did they ever even meet on the island?
Sayid - Why would he be in a funeral in LA? Would his family not claim the body and return him to Iraq? Maybe he was incognito working for Ben when he died, but then how would Jack or Desmond know it was him?
Desmond - Unless Penny is dead already, there's no way he would have a solo funeral w/ only Jack as a visitor & Kate wouldn't be repulsed by Jack's mention of him.
Jacob - Jack & Kate know nothing of Jacob at this point as seeing as they are leaving the island, I don't see them ever knowing.
Sawyer - I don't think Kate would be repulsed as she was, but I do think that Kate's favor for Sawyer was a secret rendevous of sorts.
Locke - Maybe. Jack & Kate both dislike him.
Alpert - No. Again, do Jack or Kate even know him?
Ben: IMPROBABLE
---
Speculation about Ben being in the coffin has been circulating for some time. I doubt Dark, a spoiler advocate, would be surprised by Ben being in the coffin.
Sayid: PROBABLE
---
As many have pointed out, his story has pretty much wrapped up. He married Nadia. She was killed. He became Ben's personal assassin, etc. Very likely candidate.
Desmond: POSSIBLE
---
I don't really have evidence either way, but I'm sure that a lot of people would be pissed if he was killed off. Is that enough to keep a character alive? Probably not.
Jacob: NOT POSSIBLE
---
The producers have confirmed that the person in the coffin is a character we've seen before.
Sawyer: NOT POSSIBLE
---
The producers confirmed that the love triangle would not be resolved until the end of season 6. Kate was doing favors for Sawyer in "Something Nice Back Home" and at the mention of his name, Jack flips out. Suddenly Kate despises him ("Why would I go?!") and Jack want to kill himself over his death? No.
Locke: POSSIBLE
---
I have strong evidence against Locke being in the coffin, but not enough to rule him out entirely.
Alpert: POSSIBLE
---
At this point in time (get it?) it wouldn't make sense, but who knows with this show?
As Bonasi said, I think the one in the coffin is Ben, but as we know, he's a master, so it will be for sure all fake. Another fake death could be Locke, but the one behind it all would be again The Artist Formerly Known As Henry Gale ;)
Any of those two in the coffin would be more than shocking...
The problem I have with Ben being in the coffin is 1) He doesn't seem like the type to given up and kill him self and 2) If he's dead, then, IMHO, the scene with him and Widmore was pointless. A showdown between these 2 characters was being set up in what I thought would be a storyline drawn out through at least season 5.
Only 5 minutes til showtime! (at least in Chicago)
I don't want it to be Desmond though. I want to see him a Penny live happily ever after and become Adam and Eve.
i'll be disappointed if its desmond. someone should get a happy ending lol
why do so many people think it's desmond??! his funeral would be in his home country, not the US. and he would most definitely have people in his life who would show up. i say 0% chance that it's desmond
@bongzilla--Cigarette Smoking Man. That made me smile.
I know, I know, if the dude in the coffin turns out to be Locke, the ff is far enough in the future that there are still a couple years of how-did-he-get-there action to see before the timeline catches up... but I think many of us hardcore Locke fans are hooked by the idea that he will be redeemed, that his crappy-ass life WILL turn out to have meaning, and not just island meaning, but personal meaning--that he'll find fulfillment. And dead, alone, in a barren LA storefront funeral home doesn't exactly spell "redemption."
Yeah, we're totally projecting. We know.
Well, since ben lies about everything, it would not suprise me that it is him, but yet another one of his underhanded tricks to fool people into thinking he is dead, while operating incognito. It depends if they show the body. Even if they do, you can't put anything past this guy.
According to a New York Post article from February 24th, 2008, one of the Oceanic 6 dies. They only knew of Jack, Kate, Hurley, and Sayid by that point but now we know all of them (they say it enough on the commercials).
"We know who survives: Season four introduced six survivors: Jack (Matthew Fox); Kate (Evangeline Lilly); Hurley (Jorge Garcia), and Sayid (Naveen Andrews). This "Oceanic 6" make it off the island, but one will die - exactly who will be revealed this season."
So doesn't that mean it HAS to be Sayid? Ben, Desmond, Jacob, Sawyer, Locke, and Alpert would all contradict that. I can't see them publishing something like that without the proper, reliable sources.
I thought about it some more and it could very well be Locke. What if Ben and the others have setup locke? "your the new leader now" ben says to him. "You go down to the orchid and press the buttons". Locke obeys, thinking he is the leader and savior of the island only to suffer some sort of consequence of being the orchid button pusher. Something like being bounced off the island and back to the mainland, with ben back in control of a dissapeared island. Locke ultimately can't live with himself. Maybe the boy in the obit is walt, who was adopted by locke after Michael dissapeares with the boat and the island. Just a theory.
I hope to God it's not Locke or Desmond...if it is...I'm done...Haha kidding but if it's either of those two I'll be very disappointed.
>>According to a New York Post article from February 24th, 2008, one of the Oceanic 6 dies.
Where did ypu get this?
Based on Jack and Kate's individual reactions to the death, I would rule out Sayid, Jacob, Alpert, and Desmond. Neither Jack nor Kate knew Jacob or Alpert enough to have the reactions that they did. I also don't think there is any bad blood between Kate and Sayid or Desmond.
Thus that leaves Sawyer, Ben, and Locke. We can rule Sawyer out. I'm guessing Ben would not have committed suicide. So, I'm putting my money on Locke.
The way the last episode of season 3 was set up, I figured it was Ben the whole time. Not much has changed other than the fact that he's a major character.
Locke makes the most sense... he's a tragic figure.
Sayid, Desmond, Sawyer are friends.
Jacob? Alpert? Not sure either of them can die or are alive as is.
Sayid lived with Nadia in LA. LA was the place she was killed.
SO, It could be Sayid. But I hope, that Funeral was faked....And Sayid is alive
Also It could be Ben.
If Sayid takes revenge on Ben, I can envision a scenario where Sayid makes it look like Ben committed suicide.
Sayid's payback to Ben will be a BITCH of epic proportions, especially if Ben set in motion circumstances that led to Nadia's death.
Really none of these make sense in terms of Jack and Kate's reactions in the FF last year. I was initially glad to see Juliet not there, since she made the most sense, but now I'm very fearful for Desmond. His episodes are the best in the series IMO, and the show would lost 75% of its charm without him.
"Really none of these make sense in terms of Jack and Kate's reactions in the FF last year."
thats true at the moment but remember YEARS will pass in which they will have time to, in kates case - become indifferent to, and jacks case - upset about.
i still think alpert. i think he and jack will meet at some point and alpert will offer him and way home, whereas kate might never meet him again and doesnt want to go back to the island as it is so she wont care about his death.
come are tptb really gonna kill off locke, ben, sawyer, sayid or des? no, cos it would be too detrimental to the show. jacob is..well, off course its not him and richard makes perfect sense.
My first thought while watching TTLG was- its Locke- by intuition, without any logic or reasoning. He just so perfectly fit into Jack's reaction- on the background of that island conflict between them two.But then, given some thought to it, I stuck to opinion it has to be Ben. He is my absolutely fav on the show, but only him in the coffin made sense and was logical to the line of plot development. ...Yeah, who said Lost has to be logical at all....
Plus, Michael Emerson confirmed he had a secret scene for filming on May, 7th- btw, anyone know was it the same day when Henry Ian Cusick had been seen near Hoffs/Drawlar?
But from the other side I think Dark wouldnt be "shocked" to know its Ben in the coffin (please correct me if i am wrong, Dark:))). Quite the contrary- Ben was number 2 in list of "casket suspects" (never understood the cause of Michael being most "obvious" and "popular" choice though). As well, I dont see good reason for Desmond to visit Ben there.
So currently I am going with Locke, no matter how sad its for me. Producers said they could dodge the coffin question till the end of season 5, this means person in it presumably would be present in the show all next year. At least, in spite of it is kind of pathetic twilight of somebody's life we are gonna have another full season with this character.
As for others-
Jacob- not sure if he is material enough to die, be seen and be placed in box.
Richard- possible. but unlikely, in context of scenes in TTLG. only if producers "changed the rules" as someone mentioned before.
Sayid- I am still stuck with idea of muslim's mortuary rites.
Desmond- highly unlikely. and Kate's reaction is unexplainable then.
Sawyer- oh, plz...shippers would raze producers office to the ground in that case, so no chance.
I say it's Alpert. Desmond, IDK, I know the producers like shockers but this one would just piss off the bases. Remember, The Des/Penny relationship is too important. I imagine Penny would be at that funeral no matter what. Plus, why WOULDN'T Kate go to the funeral for Des? And Why would Jack be so upset?
Now, ALPERT, Kate wouldn't go to the funeral cause of him kidnapping her in the last episode. Jack would be upset because Alpert might've been his only way back to the island. Alpert was neither family or friend. DESMOND, however, I imagine Jack would consider a friend somewhat.
No, Lost twists usually are mindblowers but they still make sense somewhat. Desmond wouldn't make sense at all.
Plus, I remember a spoiler saying that Sawyer, Locke, and Jin, were all alive on the island. And this wasn't the April Fool's rumor but one just a week or two ago.
So I stick by it being Richard Alpert. Ben and Locke are WAY too obvious. It's so Alpert. That'd be the big Lost reveal that could sort of work to make sense.
"Now ALPERT, Kate wouldn't go to the funeral cause of him kidnapping her in the last episode."
Eh, what?
i said many post ago jack. now with our choices i went richard. it was a shock and awe choice. and now i see how it could work.
kate meets him, so jack must too. esp since it looks like we are all going to the orchid. if we look at the funeral scene no one shows. no friends no family. maybe cuz richard doesnt have any or his family is the hostiles (we know they cant come). if we go by the newspaper clipping (but it is supposed to be rewritten) was found by 16 yr old son(?) ben said those soda cracker were 15 years old. do the math. its so possible. i dont see how des fits yet but ....
Ok here's my thoughts on it:
Ben: It's possible. Ben has no friends or family left and perharps Jack went and became upset because he realized he should have listened to Ben about not phoning the freighter, which brought about the beginning of the end.
Sayid: Also possible. He too has no friends or family. I know you may say Jack and co but what if they found out that he became an asassin for Ben? Maybe Jack then came to see the coffin because he realised what getting off the island has done to each of them.... in Sayid's case, turned him into a murderer who either killed himself out of shame for his actions or mourning for Nadia, or was murdered.
Des: I don't know... why would Jack say he wasn't a friend? And why would Penny not attend the funeral. Doesn't fit with what we know. However, Ben could have succeeded in killing Penny, which then might explain that part, but on the whole, I don't think so.
Jacob: I HOPE this is a joke entry!
Sawyer: As per what has been revealed by Kristin, no. Unless there's a whole time paradox craziness. But I hope ta feck not coz I love him ta bits.
Locke: See above.(That's right I love Locke too!)
Alpert: Doesn't make sense. If I'm remembering right, Jack doesn't know him. And if he DOES encounter him in the next ep... it's only for a day,as they leave the island at the end of the next eppy (I'm assuming) so I doubt he'd be too caught up over his death.
So... IMO: Sayid or Ben?
DARK, can you tell us anything about the circumstance in which we find out about who it is? Anything? Come on we're dying here! (",)
Evangeline Lilly said on the radio today that the producers filmed 4 different people in the coffin so no one would know for sure........that being said...NOT DESMOND!
@ sam
but couldnt that raise the possibility of 4 people being in the coffin... at once?
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THATS GOOD please don't let it be Locke. Anyone but Locke.
PLEEEEEASZE
This poll ruined my day. Ben, Des and Sayid are my favourite characters, and I wouldn't be happy about the others dying either. I hope that the coffin is empty, someone staged his own death.
It's got to be Locke, Die as one and be resurected as another (jacob).
They can do anythign they please with time travel and island movements now, so dont be surprised if locke "dies" but keeps his role playing it out as the island's savour Jacob.
It has to be either Ben, Sayid, or Locke. It wouldn't make sense that Kate wouldn't want to see anyone else.
It could be Sayid because of that report that Desmond shows up at one point and Kate wouldn't want to see him if she were to find out that he is/was working for Ben.
Of that list I'm hoping it's Ben, but Sayid wouldn't surprise me.
