Seeing as we're not going to be getting many new spoilers for a while, I though it would be interesting to take a look back at some of the past spoilers that we've yet to see occur on the show. If I've missed any, please let me know in the comments.
Which ones interest you the most?
1) Back in Season 2 Damon/Carlton said "The story of the wrecked research vessel, it will be coming at some point but we can't guarantee it'll be in Season 3"
2) Damon Lindelof wrote : "Libby's got this mysterious backstory, of which we've only given you the tip of the iceberg. We know she's spent some time in the mental institution with Hurley, and the idea of killing her before she had an opportunity to explain how she got there... we have a master plan for how we're going to tell that story, but it's all posthumous. You'll start to learn Libby's moves through flashbacks over the course of the next season"
3) "Viewers will learn why Libby was in the asylum, and why the island has healing powers"
4) Ausiello reported "Eko might be back and it might not necessarily be a flashback episode"
5) In an Official Podcast - "There will be a Rousseau flashback eventually. In it, it will talk about Montand and his arm"
6) In an Official Podcast - "They will be revisiting the psychic's predictions for Claire in the future as well as Walt's abilities. The Others' obsession with children and pregnancy goes beyond the inability to successfully bear children on the island. The Other's definitely have an interest in children with special abilities. That's why they took Walt. There are two factions of The Others and are in no relation to the hatches/stations. They will be getting back to the statue before the show ends."
7) Damon and Carlton : "They revealed that the smoke monster will not be explained until the end of the series. "
8) On the Season 3 DVD Commentary : "Horace Goodspeed and Olivia are important to the DHARMA story, and we can expect to see more of them in the future. Speaking of volcanoes, there is one on the island. Damon says it will be of "seismic importance" (pun very much intended.) Annie is an extremely important part of the island's backstory, and it is a planned chapter to come. Annie is more important than the Goodspeeds or the volcano. We have not seen Ben's motivation for his role in the purge, but we will."
9) From Kristin : "The four-toed statue "will be back on the show," says Damon [Lindelof]. "People will learn who built it and why it has four toes.""
10) From an Interview with Variety "We will find out more back story as to why the late Libby was in the same mental hospital with Hurley, prior to the plane crash, and presumably after she gave her boat to Desmond for the race. [We will] at some point catch up with Emma and Zack, the two kids from the tail section group of survivors who were kidnapped by the Others in season 2's "The Other 48 Days." To the question of whether we'll ever see Katey Sagal's Helen character (Locke's former flame) again, Darlton indicated that they hoped so. To the question of whether the DeGroots, the hirsute couple who founded the Dharma Initiative, are still alive, Cuse and Lindelof paused a bit and then pressed for more specificity on the time frame of the question. As of where the time line of "Lost" will be when the series returns on April 24, Darlton would only say: "One of them is." Lindelof let it be known that in a recent episode when one of the castaways asked Ben if he knew what the island's smoke monster really was and Ben responded that he didn't know -- big lie. "Ben was lying about the smoke monster," Lindelof said."

Does this piss anyone else off?
If you're going to make promises, deliver on them!
Number 8 - The four-toed statue. I believe Darlton said that this would play a role in Season 4... I'm still waiting for that...
Anyway, the ancient history of the island interest me most
To be honest, the four toed statue isn't really a big deal to me. I really want to know more about Libby and Danielle and other characters whose stories were not resolved yet.
Besides, D&C said they might not get to everything.
Most of this doesn't interest me at all, esecially the Libby backstory. We have seen her unusual connection to the Losties. The character had potential but she's dead, how much more can there be that can in any way truly impact the plot?
I believe we will learn more about Dharma and what took place on the island before the crash. I can't imagine that they will get very detailed however with only 34 episodes left.
The one thing that I would LOVE to see is the reappearance of Eko (doubtful based on the reports of Adewale's dissatisfaction with the show).
aj goodrich- I do feel mildly irritated reading this because I question how much of this they will actually deliver on. only time will tell. I get the feeling that when the series ends were still gonna be wondering about a lot of things that should have been resolved.I wonder how much their agenda has changed as the story unfolds further and further. I wonder if their plan is still the same as it was all along- or how it compares to their intententions going into season 2 , or going into season 3 etc. it was definitely concerning when they (semi)recently made that comment about how they wont answer everything (comparing the show to star wars) and then when on to say that they would not elaborate the f#*king numbers!!! what the f@#k is that? yea- I know,I was part of the lost experience also but that does not even begin to explain why they appear eveywhere, why they seem to be cursed, how hurley is connected with them (i guess by the lottery?) or anything else besides that dharma was working to try to solve the valenzetti equation. also what about the casual viewers of the show (nonparticipants of t.l.e.)who don't even know what the hell the valenzetti equation is!!! what a total rip off for them!! dont get me wrong lost is by far my favorite show ever . I am completely obsessed with it, that's why it's important to me that the show maintains it's integrity and delivers on 95% of the outstanding mysteries and 100% of the big ones. comments?
A couple of these could well have been victims of the writer's strike :/ Which in any case, provides a convenient excuse.
We did see the kids again from the tail section in early season 4 didn't we?
"4) Ausiello reported "Eko might be back and it might not necessarily be a flashback episode""
We "saw" Eko playing chess with Hurley in the mental institution. Maybe that??
Who cares about Libby? That's like the least important mystery on LOST.
That DeGroot thing is still crazy. "One of them is." I wonder how they'll come into play.
Last year at Comic-Con, Harold P predicted that Locke was in the casket.
As far as the Degroots, Darlton never promised that we'd see them again, did they? I think they just said that one was alive. Stuff like that doesn't bother me, but the broken promises definitely do.
Thanks for making up this list Dark. i hadn't realized there were so many spoilers that haven't happened yet.
i'm not worried about the answers quite yet. i have 8 months to fall in love again with lost. i was disenchanted when the "frozen donkey wheel" was actually a frozen. donkey. wheel.
gah!
Wasn´t pilot Seth Norris (Greg Grunberg´s character) supousse to re-appear at some point of this past season?? That´s really annoying me...
I'm guessing all of the kids will be seen next season, now that the story has caught up to the child actors' aging.
well considering how much they have said we will get libbys story, as long as we get that, i'll be happy.
Libby libby libby. I think she's a great character and i want to know more about her!!!
i agree with downsidesahead we didnt see Eko in a flashback/forward haha technically we didn't really see him ... but he did come back
maybe we haven't heard any spoiler about this things but i actually wanna know about:
- the skeletons (adam and eve)
- is Walt special? why?
- how did the heroin plane (with
eko's brother) get there?
- what about the eye and the bible
with the film in the arrow
station? who put that there?
- who cut the Swan's orientation
film in two and why?
- the map of the island with all
the hatches in The Swan? what
was it's purpose?
- Desmond's prediction about
Claire being resuced with her
baby??
- the Black Rock?
- the Dharma food drops?? (isn't
this VERY important?)
- is that it with the artic
station?
Isabelle and Hannah, I couldn't agree more:)
Two factions of The Others...So would that be like Richard's ninja-like Others and then the 'from the real world' Juliet/Harper type ones?
Not sure Darlton will be able to make good on that Danielle flashback promise since the actress asked them to kill her off.
I do think that alot of the things the writers said was said before they decided to have an end date. Now that we have an end date, I doubt they can keep all the promises.. I mean, we have to deal with how Locke died, and what happened on the island to make him leave, then we also have to deal with the off island event that shows how the O6 get back. So I think only the history of the island is the only thing we can count on, and thats based on what the writer's said after the end date proclamation.
I will be disapointed but maybe they will go the comic book route and stufff, or hey, maybe do a movie a la' 24 mode..
Either way, I'm hooked and I wont leave the show if they don't tell me everything I want to know, but I will be disapointed...
2 factions of the Others - perhaps a pro-Jacob group, and a pro-Christian group? :)
David -- you mentioned a lot of what I really want to know about too! If we don't get a resolution to Desmond's helicopter vision, I think a lot of fans will go ballistic in light of Charlie's sacrifice.
I actually want to hear more about Libby, and I think this was planned for this season, but had to be pushed back after the strike. I don't know how much we'll see of her, but I expect we'll get some blurb (maybe from Widmore) about how she set up Des with the boat and was watching Hurley because of Wid's plans to get closer to the island, or something like that. This could be explained in a few sentences, rather than whole episodes.
We won't have everything wrapped up (like the numbers), but I expect we will get to the four-toed statue, maybe Danielle (big maybe), Adam and Eve definitely (by serie's end), Jacob and Smokey, definitely (I should hope, at least ;-) )
Remember that "spoiler" from last fall about Hurley's haircut. There was a picture of Jorge Garcia with what looked like a new short haircut. Someone at the fuselage asked him about it, and he claimed that it was cut for an upcoming episode. Apparently he was just pulling our leg.
Wasn't there also supposed to be a reason (that would eventually be revealed) why both Sawyer and Kate had backstories in Tallahassee, FL. There was supposed to be something "special" about that town. Can't remember were I heard that one though. I tend to think that it might have been in a podcast.
This: The Others' obsession with children and pregnancy goes beyond the inability to successfully bear children on the island. The Other's definitely have an interest in children with special abilities. That's why they took Walt. There are two factions of The Others and are in no relation to the hatches/stations. They will be getting back to the statue before the show ends.
I cannot cannot cannot wait for them to flesh out the explanation for who the hell the Others are, what they want, why they kidnap people instead of asking nicely, and why they feel the need to dress in potato sacks every now and then.
and this: Annie is an extremely important part of the island's backstory, and it is a planned chapter to come. Annie is more important than the Goodspeeds or the volcano. We have not seen Ben's motivation for his role in the purge, but we will.
If Annie is part of Ben's motivation for the purge, that would help lend significance to the otherwise seemingly throw-away TOW ep--hell hath no fury like a Ben scorned.
I also think there is a Rousseau-shaped hole that could use filling. I'm not totally convinced it really matters all that much, but I also think anything introduced in S1 is probably important.
They could completely drop any references to Libby and Eko and Rousseau, and I don't think the show would be the worse for it. I think those were water-treading stories that are not integral to the overall story.
Sorry, I meant to say they could drop references to Eko and Libby. Changed my mind about Rousseau mid-typing.
PS--Can we lay bets on how long we'll have to wait in S5 before Locke dons burlap tank top? Or do you think he'll institute some comportment requirements?
- David Olano
Great list, I want to get answers to those questions as well, but that's not it, more unresolved things:
* Four Toed Statue
* SMOKE MONSTER ( What is that thing? Who or What created it? )
* JACOB ( Who is he or What is he? What does he want? and Why? )
* The Temple... where and what is it?
* The whole Goodspeed's plot
* Annie (If she's "important", then Darlton must show us why. )
* The NUMBERS (Ok, They are part of an equation... but really, why does hurley claims they give bad luck? it's just numbers, right? But the fact that the Hatch had them printed on the door and that Desmond needed to type them into a computer connected to who knows where... makes me think these numbers are not just part of some equation... Darlton needs to clear this up, but on the show, not on online chats nor on Comic Con interviews, we want the whole deal regarding the Numbers.)
* The growth issues (Why is there a difference on Island compared to off the Island?)
* The island's apparitions (of Chrisitian, Ben's Mom, Eko's Brother... Why do they show up? Who makes them show up? Are they real or is it all an optic illusion?)
* Why do woman have problems when pregnant? Is the Island the cause? If so, Why?
* Why are the Others interested in children?
* The complete story on Walt. His abilities, his kidnap, his stay with the Others. (The others took him... ok, but why? Because he's special... but with what purpose?!?! Why do they need special children, to do what? And also we are assuming Walt is special... and they never mentioned his abilities, All we saw was a confused kid on final epsiode, asking Hurley WTF was going on. Darlton need to clarify Walt's story, they just erased him from the board and forget about the character, just like if we would forget.
* Ms. Hawking.. What is she? Her connection with Brother Campbell?
* The bird ( The one Hurley saw ) What is that?
* What happend with Desmond thorugh ALL season 2??? He shows up all of a sudden on that season's finale, saying "There's nothing out there" :S What does he mean? If he sailed (And he didnt knew the correct coordinates, right?), then he should have experienced the same things of Season 4 or at least similar (and I know that by then the Hatch explosion hadn't happened yet).
* What the hack happend to Cindy? We saw her being very pleased of seeing Jack (who was trapped in a CAGE for god's sake) in Season 2, and she looked very happy, like brainwashed, i mean, she was practically ignoring jack being on the cage. I remember she even felt insulted when Jack responded enraged... What happened to her? And I haven't seen her nor the kids (Emma and Zack) with the Others? Where are they? And Why they took them?
Pff... a lot of unresolved plots. So well, I just hope 32 episodes are enough for Darlton to answer all this. And if you ask me... i think many, probably 90% of this stuff will be left like that: UNANSWERED. It's too much for 32 episodes.
PS.- Darlton, if you raised the questions... it's not right to left them unanswered.
I think we HAVE seen as much of Eko as we are going to. He is the invisible chess partner of Hurley.
What I want to see is the wrecked research ship and Rousseaus's backstory, Libby;'s backstory and what happened to Annie.
*how did the heroin plane (with
eko's brother) get there?*
seems like the same way everything else gets to the island. fate. I personally wouldn't mind if this isn't expanded on.
However, they better do something regarding the real henry gale!
- what about the eye and the bible
with the film in the arrow
station? who put that there?
I always felt we were meant to put the pieces together and say it was mikhail. Not all the answers are served on a golden platter.
- who cut the Swan's orientation
film in two and why?
the why is a good question, but the who is likely the same person who did the swan hatch map (kelvin or radinzky)
- the map of the island with all
the hatches in The Swan? what
was it's purpose?
I thought it was obvious that Kelvin (or radinzky? i forget) was leaving the hatch in that bio suit and trying to map out what he could in the 48 minutes he had between number punching
- Desmond's prediction about
Claire being resuced with her
baby??
I think this one is very interesting. I feel there are two possibilities.
1. Everything charlie did in TTLG changed things.
But, since this defies ms hawking's course correction theory, I want to say that the answer is:
2. We WILL see this in season 6... or at least a course corrected version.
- the Dharma food drops?? (isn't
this VERY important?)
My belief on this is that the food drops were not sent via the correct heading and got time-lapsed. (or perhaps dharma took specific advantage of that property of the island and sent all the food drops at once and were able to stagger them by simply staggering headings
- is that it with the artic
station?
Aren't those guys from the arctic station the same guys on penny's boat?
I have faith the Annie one would be answered.
What I REALLY want is the back story for Libby, and the Danielle one isn't far behind.
I accept Eko chose to leave the show and probably the writers had to change some intentions because of that, so I am not upset if that story doesn't complete the way they wanted it to.
I have to say, the more I reflect on season 4, the more I miss the character interactions and humour. Its much darker than it used to be. Still damn awesome, but I think its lost some of its charm in order to deliver on plot.
Just goes to show that they pretty much make this stuff up as they go along. I don't even think they keep tabs on what they are saying half the time!

Whatever happened to the "Scarier things Are Lurking in the Jungle" spoiler? They mentioned this quite a bit during season three, but then it disappeared in a puff of smoke. I know I didn't hallucinate this spoiler and it really interested me (crazy island natives possibly?) ...any thoughts?
I wanna' know more about Libby!
Couldn't the Mr. Eko thing have been talking about "Checkmate, Mr. Eko."?
" is that it with the artic
station?"
I know those guys were in penny's boat but what does the artic station mean? Did Penny know about desmond's location before talking to charlie? has she been aware all this time about the island?
The arctic station
After the flash forward in season 3 - Darlton said 'This twist will make you see some of the season 2 finale in a different light'
The only flash from season 2 that is a candidate for being a flashFORWARD is, in fact the arctic station.
The moment in the arctic statino should be in line with 'the constant' in time line.
! have a few more. if anyones named these yet i missed em :)
- what was the "incident" that made them block off the room in the hatch, and was it caused by whatever is magnetic, does the monster have anything to do with it?

- how long was dharma on the island before the purge
- how long where the hostiles on the island for, are they native to it, did they come on the black rock
- has the island been moved before
holy fuck how many is there now? i cant believe how many things we've thought of, and you know there never going to answer everything. that really sucks. cuz with a show like this you would think they would give the fans closure on at least most of these very important mysterys and story lines, they put together such (what i thought was) an intricatly put together and intellegent peice of art, and the fans of such a show are smart, and will figure it out when you fuck it up. So if there not going anywhere with major parts of this story, i dont know where its going to end up but in the shitter. Im starting to wonder if what they really did was just can half of there ideas everytime they didnt like where it was going, and just said forget it and then make up something else to stick in there hence why theres SO MANY loose ends. Sorry im ranting but when you read these lists and lists of things they forgot or dont have time to finish, it seems like thats what happened, and they ran out of story time. All i want though is that when they finish the series, I will be able to look at it and see it as a whole, a complete masterpeice beggining to end, what it deserves, not just random parts of a story that kinda go together, but theres something missing.... if thats what lost becomes, and thats what everyone will remember it by, ill be pissed!
I think Libby is important. I like the theories that say that Libby's husband (David) died in Hurley's deck accident, and he became Hurley's Dave because Hurley was so guilty. And then Libby started stalking Hurley or something and that's why she was at the mental hospital. I don't remember the rest of the theories, but I think that's cool enough.
i like that theory john! and its something they can still work into the show using hurley.
So many people say that this or that wasn't answered or a so and so's back story wasn't done this year because of the writer's strike. It would have been impossible to put everything in this year that was promised with only 2 more hours of show (we did get 14 of the 16 hours). So the writer's strike wasn't the reason we didn't get all we were promised.
Unfortunately, it seems obvious to me that they will never answer much more that the biggest questions. There is just not enough time with only 34 hours left. Character development is already suffering for plot development. And for every question they do answer, they put 2 more questions out there. For me, it’s frustrating. My hope is that once the series is over, they go ahead and write the book: "Lost: The Final Answers". As far as I'm concerned, they could just list questions and provide answers. It wouldn't even have to be in narrative form. Of course, it wouldn't be the same as watching the drama play out, but it would provide some closure for all those questions that will be left unanswered (and there will be many).
@dana: I think such a book would be a great idea.
Regarding all the open questions. Can you remember the episodes "The other 48 days" and the one where Ben purged the Dharma people? In these two episodes the complete plot was pushed at a very fast pace. Sure this came at the cost of character development but one or two episodes like this could really solve some major questions. Like an Richard centric episode that explains the mysteries of the island such as Dharma, The Others/Hostiles, Smokey, Danielle, Henry Gale, the stations etc..
Without speeding up like this it is indeed unlikely to answer all questions in time.
there is one massive thing that has yet to be ansered for me and I believe its a continuity error, where did the dharma food drop off come from ? the island is apparently masked and Dharma is finished ? so where did the drop come from ?
Guys, I agree with almost everyone, a LOT of things are unanswered and probably will be left like that.
I know that many TV shows leave things unanswered... but here, the problem is that many of those things were delivered to us like important plots. For example, the Henry Gale plot or Rousseau's story, those things were ignored (like many others ¬¬) during the following seasons.
All this makes me think (again) they make up this stuff as they go along. It's a lie that they had EVERYTHING already in place since day 1, and I bet not even 50% of the show was planned. Maybe they had a vague idea of what the show would be like, but nothing was written, no characters, no story, no flashforwards, no Ben, no Desmond, no Others, no Dharma, no Hatch. The hatch was probably made up after the first 10 or 12 episodes, and what was INSIDE it, was probably made up after the 1st season ended. So they are making everything up as they go along, they just drop pieces like the skeletons and things like that, so later they can make something up, a story or something for those pieces, and say "You see! We had everything planned already." And I don't blame them for that, they can do whatever they want.
The MAIN problem is they used all these unsolved plots (back then) to advance their story and left them there, unsolved, with no conclusion. And there's the mistake. Because those were not the common plot devices writers use to advance a story (also called MacGuffins). For example, in Mission Impossible 3, the main character is after a mysterious object codenamed "The Rabbit's Foot", and at the end of the film you dont know WTF that thing was, you have a vague idea, but it's not important to know the details of it, what's important is that it advanced the story and that's a MacGuffin.
But that's not the case here. The MacGuffins should NOT have effects on the story and MUST help advance it, that's their ONLY purpose, they are nothing more than that. And don't tell me the Four Toed Statue advanced the story in some way (It was just a mystery left there, unsolved). Or that the Others interested in children didn't affect the storyline (Didn't they kiddnapped Walt?).
So these unsolved plots are not like the normal ones writers tend to leave unanswered. I mean of course they will not answer EVERYTHING, like Sawyer's favorite drink or Kate's favorite brand of whatever... They didn't left MacGuffins unanswered, they left PLOTS with no conclusion. I mean, they need to answer those PLOTS and STORYLINES they once began, and that all of a sudden were left unsolved, probably because they changed their minds thinking it would be a lot of work so prefered taking a safer way like flashforwards and frozen donkey wheels. And that's NOT fair. It like if Star Wars would have ignored that Darth Vader ever told Luke was his son, because it would complicate things ¬¬ I mean come on! You (Darlton) made me a fan because of your stories, so finish them up.
"Annie is more important than the Goodspeeds or the volcano. We have not seen Ben's motivation for his role in the purge, but we will."
Oh DON'T tell me he does it because Annie ran off with another man! Although... given the events in The Other Woman, that might actually be completely plausible. Still though, give us something better! Like... the Dharma initiative/Widmore takes her away! And maybe her newborn baby called Charlotte?! But no cause you can't have babies on the island.. oh I don't know.
Oh and Dark, you forgot about Adam and Eve and the black and white stones, they promised us to answer those as some point too!
Dark,
Is it possible you could present your list to Darlton and have them comment on where they stand on them now?
The more and more I read, the more pissed off I get!!! They probably were making it up as they went until they got their end date.
I think this will never be explained -- you can just chalk it up to fate: he appeared back on the island at exactly the right time and place that he was needed (meeting Locke in the hatch to turn the fail safe rather than let the world get obliterated by failing to enter the numbers). And he didn't experience any effects like in "The Constant" because, as you said, it was before the fail safe was turned -- TC established that only large amounts of EM exposure made people susceptible to the "sickness" -- which is why Frank and Sayid weren't effected.
If they've got the luxury of wasting an ENTIRE EPISODE explaining the story behind Jack's tattoos, they'd better get around to resolving all the other FAR MORE INTERESTING plots they've introduced over the past 4 seasons.
People complain about the lack of character development on the show nowadays, but episodes like the one where Jack went to Phuket are for exactly that. It wasn't just about his tats, it was to develop his character more. The whole point of that episode was to show you he is a natural leader and because of that, he won't/can't be like everyone else.
character development that was in place during season 1 and 2 is what they need to get back too, it was involved in other plot, so you got plot and character in one. It wasnt just either an action scene or a character scene it was BOTH! and it was AWESOME!
kate jack and charlie walking through the jungle season 1 episode 1, monsters chasing them, kate counts to 5! bringing us back to the fear scene with her and jack, and showing us her trust. Also in between these scenes we get to know the characters, because thats what pilots are for yes, BUT thats what good shows are for too, WE NEED TO BRING THE BALANCE BACK! Thats all they need to do more of, and its quite simple they dont need to compramise character for plot REWATCH SEASON 1 AND 2 BACK TO BACK! do it now! and tell me im wrong. they are the most coherent and interesting seasons because of the way they were made and put together, THAT is how we make tv shows.
"8) On the Season 3 DVD Commentary : "Horace Goodspeed and Olivia are important to the DHARMA story, and we can expect to see more of them in the future.
Ben's flashbacks:
Annie is with Ben.
Ben finds out Annie is cheating on him with another random DHARMA guy.
She dies in childbirth giving birth to that guy's daughter. That daughter is Charlotte. That is why Ben shot her: Bad memories that he equates to bad people.
Richard recruits Ben once again after this event, using Annie's death just as Ben would later use Nadia's death to recruit Sayid. Right down to the dialogue.
Ben is now Richard's 'pawn', but in a good way, as it's what the island really needs.
Ben arranges the Purge according to Jacob's orders.
Ooh. Maybe that DHARMA guy who is Charlotte's father is Razinsky?
That is why he is exiled to the Swan Station. Ben knew he was there all along, as he sent him there after the Purge as a final punishment. As Michael learnt, life is sometimes more painful than death.
What he didn't know was that Kelvin and Desmond took over. He just left Razinsky there, blissfully, selfishly ignorant of the things that were to come.
DharmaBeer,
I concur
oh yah, and there used to be explenations for characters actions. and plot that went somewhere is always better than plot that goes nowhere
like, why is kate such a stupid bitch now. Ive gone from loving her to hating her! they tottaly butchered her character and its at the expense of the show as a whole! I havent seen anything that would cause her to be mad at sawyer in eggtown? or the season 3 finale? she suddenly loves slapping people, like 4 times in season 4 i think, maybe more. and what the fuck happened to the awesome kate that always voulenteered to go head first into the unknown and come back ass kicking. when locke lowered her down into the hatch! and counts to three, but he just drops her at like the count of 1 and a half "oh, ok then" see that was good writing! the "we hunt" scene where locke thows the knive inches from sawyer thats good writing! when jack first sees his father in the ocean and wandering the jungle *creeeeepy!* nothing creeps me out like that anymore because they hack the shit out of those scenes by repeating them and repeating them only in different ways, it looses its appeal. jack finds locke in the jungle on his search for his taller ghost dad, awesomeness ensues with there conversation. NOTHING but NOTHING beats season 1. never will there be a season premier like THAT again! I miss the interation between certain characters, i miss when locke was with everyone else and was cool, i miss mysterys that had nothing to do with time travel or frieghters or tunsunia (where the fuck is that!?) and were as simple yet as mind blowing as, whats in the hatch!? man, when that light came on!? scenes just dont get that awesome anymore because they've gone too far and too big, now its like "ummm yah, so it IS a frozen donkey wheel....ok?" and "lockes in the coffin? really? wow... i am so shocked im like this close to not even giving a shit about what happens on this stupid show anymore" soap operas do less drama bullshit for ratings! its getting silly! i want to know who adam and eve are, the black stones, the black rock, the hostiles, THE ISLAND! i dont give a shit about widmore anymore, and if thats what the rest of this show is about ill go ape shit. thats what it seems there setting it up for. and that SUUUUCKS theres only 2 more seasons what do you REALLY want to see happen!? what should be answered not what should we answer for ratings.
i know well just show kate walking fastly in a nitey again! brilliant!
Man, Desmond815 and Dharmabeer took the words right out of my mouth. I had this long, elaborate essay, but after reading their posts, there is no need to post it. They practically referenced everything I was going to say. Bravo.
Also, I don't remember who said it, but somebody made a post awhile back about the numbers. They said, and I'm summarizing, "I want to know about the numbers. Not exactly how they work, but why are they in the show?" That is pretty much my problem with the show now. Not really the stupid things like "omg y do they where make up" but the practical questions that seemed like big clues, whether it happened in the first season or in season 4. Why are they on the show? Like Desmond815 said, they set up all these little elements in the first few seasons, hoping to come back to them, and now they truly have no time to answer them. They say they have a list of all the unsolved answers they want to get back to, but I bet their list isn't even HALF of some of the practical lists fans have created. They are VERY close to writing themselves into a corner, but they can still get themselves out of it. Sadly, it probably won't be as satisfying as it could have been. We'll see.
I think Darlton made false promises.

Who cares about Libby? That's like the least important mystery on LOST.
Huh? That's one of the most baffling mysteries in the show. She has a mysterious unknown husband, she gave Desmond a boat which resulted in him crashing on the Island, and she was in the mental institution with Hurley.
I don't know if anyone else mentioned this yet, but something that always made me wonder was the whole "Etahn kidnapping Claire and Charlie" thing.
Juliet said he acted on his own--but he managed to kidnap two people, and string one of them up by his neck all on his own? I just always wondered about that. Not a huge part, and it'll probably never be revisited, but just something I'm curious about.
Libby and Annie are the same person, and likely she's Widmore's daughter.
That's why Libby/Annie's so important to the ongoing story - she's Widmore's motivation for trying to find Ben and the island. We'll hear more about her later, whether the actresses reappear or not.
Look back at brown-hair Libby in the last frame of "Dave" and you'll see that she and Annie are ringers.
I want to know who Juliet looks "just like" according to Harper. They have completely underused Elizabeth Mitchell this season and there are so many unanswered questions that surround Juliet and Ben's obsession with her. I think juliet and sawyer could have some interesting banter.
Also, I remember hearing somewhere that Sarah, Jack's ex, was important to the story...love to see how that would play out!
lostmio said: "Libby and Annie are the same person, and likely she's Widmore's daughter."
Wow, and it's kind of Ben's fault that Libby's dead. Imagine how pissed Widmore would be if Ben was the reason his daughter was murdered! Widmore may even be mad enough to "change the rules" and kill Ben's daughter! hmmmm....interesting

And how exactly did that episode show us that Jack is a natural leader? Was it because Jack angerly forced some woman to tatoo it on his arm, that made it so? If that is the case, I'm guessing that Ben has a tatoo on his ass that says he's "one of the good ones".
At last year's Comic Con Carlton and Damon said that would get back to Nikki and Paulo. I want to know more.
I'd like to see all of these forgotten promises addressed. While I loved season 4 it took the show from a heavy slow paced drama to a fast paced action show and I think the remaining two seaons will be in "speed mode" too. That said I think alot of thing things introduced in the past will be more like red herrings and we will hear only little of them if anything at all. The story is rushing to it's end, they aren't leaving much time for exploring mythologies...sadly.
Hopefully with the end date, we'll have no more Stranger in a Strange Land episodes. No matter how much the writers love Jack, they shouldn't be wasting their time and ours on flashbacks OR flash forwards like that.
save_the_hobbit, I was watching that episode the other day, and I instantly became irritated. What was a cool sequence when it first aired is now only confusing. Even when they try to explain it in season 3, the whole scenario still barely makes sense. You're absolutely right that they will more than likely never address it. A perfect example, actually, of what might happen to some unsolved questions. Completely ignored.
My other big fear is that they'll answer the questions, but it will be resolved in the most boring way possible. Remember how anticlimatic the reveal that Charlie faked Sun's kidnapping was in Expose? No more of that, please.
We "saw" Eko playing Chess with Hurley.
And i think Faraday is one of the Degroots ;-)
This is what I want:
- The Island's Ancient Civilization
If told right, this story arc will be really amazing.
I also want the tail-section story-line to be completed, by that I mean to know what happened to the kidnapped ones and why. I want some conclusion to "The Other 48 Days", which I loved.

"16) Why did Mr Lee commit suicide?"
I would think that was left to the viewers discretion - guilt
"17) What is the significance of the watched given to Jin to deliver to business associates in Syndey and LA. Who are these associates?"
Maybe it was the only reason the writers could come up with for having Jin on the plane!
"21) Did Libby know Hurley from the hospital and if so why did she pretend not to know him?"
Yes she knew him, it seemed so when she looked so uneasy when he would mention him knowing her from somewhere and she lying about him stepping on her foot as he boarded the plane (impossible as he was last on and in the front while she was in the back)
"22) Why does the island heal some and hurt others?"
John healed, while Jack needs surgery.
Locke was healed to make him stay, likewise the island hurt Jack to stop him from leaving.
"23) What are the “list” that continue to pop up throughout the show and who makes these list? Why was Kate not on the list?"
Wasn't it Jack who wasn't on the List?
"36) Why did Sawyer wake up and attack Kate saying “you killed me, why did you kill me!”"
Wayne was being 'channeled' through Sawyer
"37) Why did Goodwin say that Nathan was a bad person? This happened a night or two before he pretended to rescue him from Ana Lucias pit and then broke his neck."
Perhaps he worked for Widmore??? :)
"44) Who was Henry Gale?"
A balloonist from Minnesota
"58) Why did the scene with Goodspeed repeat?"
It was a dream
"59) Why does Richard Alpert never get old?"
Is it the time travel factor?

I think you mean who broke his neck and buried him on the island?
"- who was the womans husband who hurley went to visit in australia about the numbers"
Sam Toomey, he was Leonard's Navy buddy who heard the numbers while on duty in a military listening post (Leonard is Hurley's number repeating 4 in a row playing Santa Rosa fellow inmate)
"- whats the origin and purpous of the numbers"
See T.L.E. I can't see these ever being expalined in the show, it was a plot device.
"- whos idea was it to put research labs on the island, and why"
Apparently DHARMA - eh for Research? (sorry!) :)
"- why didnt the outside world ever catch wind of the islands existance with so many people living there and working there (dharma)"
because it's invisible to the outside world, and those who knew about it are proabably just as secretive as the Oceanic 6 are now
"- has the island been moved before?"
apparnetly it has, seeing that people have been there before and knew how to get on and off island but now can't return
I can't see all questions being answered, but as long as they do answer the main ones and don't do it in a mad last episode rush via talking head, then great, i won't have to seek out the producers and tie them to a chair to answer why they ruined what could have been :)
I've always wondered why the Others speak English.
After thinking about some of these questions and some of the answers we supposedly have already gotten, my concern is that even if we get the answers, they won't be satisfying. Some answers have been disappointing, boring or both. Some have been so bland that people don't even realize they've gotten an answer. So maybe some questions should remain unanswered. Some theorizing done by fans have actually been better than the actual answers we've been given. I certainly hope the overall big picture answer is awesome, but expectations are so high, I don't see how TPTB could ever live up to them.
@ Debs
"- what happened to radzinsky?"
he shot himself according to Kelvin
"- what happened to henry gale?"
I think you mean who broke his neck and buried him on the island?
We know that already, but we need Radzinsky background, How was he recluted? His conection to Dharma? And that same goes for Kelvin Inman, he was drawing the map, cutting the Orientation film in pieces, but WHY? And How did he ended up there? Just to push a button? :S
As for Henry Gale's story... ok, you said "A balloonist from Minnesota", really???
Of course we saw the balloon, so we all know he was balloonist, he was traveling... and still, What was he doing there? Did he arrived there by accident? Or his plan was to get to the island? How did he ended up there? You said the island is invisible to the outside world, right?
I mean we need some background info on characters like Henry, just like we need it for many mentioned characters on specific plots. The identity of HG, once was the most mentioned topic on Lost (on Season 2, remember?)... and all of a sudden it was forgotten... and the mysterious identity of Henry Gale was left there, just like many other mysteries.
For example... What happened to Harper? The producers said: "She's dead" Oh, ok, she's dead... ¬¬. But where? how? why? She was introduced like the person in charge of the others, like a leader, and then nothing, she's dead. Actually she was a VERY boring charcter just like Nikki and Paulo, but it doesnt feels right, to see characters being killed like they did with her. At least Nikki and Paulo got a scene where they die, buried alive or whatever, but they had one.
And I agree that most of these things will never be addressed. It's too much for 32 episodes... and it's fine, at least I hope they answer the main ones, like the Statue,Smokey, Others purposes and real intentions, Jacob (and I have my doubts with this one, i think they will NEVER really explain what jacob is, i hope i'm wrong!) and of course everything related to the Island.
Anyway, we haven't got all the answers, all we have is partial information, and mainly its things we infer or deduce, but that's it. I doubt they'll fully answer at least 10% of the things we all have mentioned here.
Desmond815: "We know that already, but we need Radzinsky background, How was he recluted? His conection to Dharma?"
Read my theory a few posts above. It kills three birds with one stone in one Ben flashback episode.
I know flashforwards/possible flashbetweens showing the island between 06 rescue and return are important but we'll give this a free ride if it does happen, I think:
Kills the Annie background mystery, the Charlotte background mystery AND the Razinsky background mystery, as well as maybe answering the Kelvin background mystery if they choose to include that as well.
Plus it would answer the Razinsky suicide mystery (he felt guilt as well as extreme isolation), the Ben shooting Charlotte mysteries (Razinsky and Annie were Charlotte's parents so he had bad memories) AND explain why Ben claimed to not know of the Swan (he did know OF it and sent Razinsky there but chose to rip it off the map as a last act of vengeance, ignoring it - and it's subsequent users - until he himself was ironically imprisoned there (adding a whole new layer to the 'Henry the Prisoner' story from Season 2).
I honestly think that the writers should hire me ;-) at least for the pleasing-the-fans-who-want-answers demographic! But then again, mine is a much more character-based solution, not a plot-based one and I'm sure any 'real' explanation would hinge on time-travel, magnetism and the Casimir Effect...
Yo, I think most of you are flipping out and portraying yourselves as victims of betrayal.
You have to realize the LOST universe faces the constraints of real life. While the show has raised many interesting questions which undoubtedly beg for answers, many of the mysteries were created before a limit was placed on how much space/time would determine the length of the show.
You have to realize much of what was intended for the story has most likely been scrapped so the writers can bring a concise end to the driving thematic, plot, and character aspects of the show.
Actors and writers are undoubtedly facing fatigue. It's a multi-year project, and as much as some of you think it's silly actors complain about living in Hawaii for most of the year, these people are not our servants, and they, too, are people with desires and goals that might not be in line with being committed to the show. The story is going to reflect this. It changes as conditions forces it.
Crap like this is another reason why the Fans bug the hell out of me.
Since when did the producers say Harper is dead? Is this another example of the Fans creating their own explanations and trying to force them as real?
Okay, after reading more of these posts, I'm convinced most of you don't watch the show.
Example: Someone says it was boring when we learn it was Charlie who kidnapped Sun in Season 3-- only we know it was Charlie in Season Two, but he confides with Sun in Season Three.
And the long list of questions with attempted answers.... I don't even know what to say.
Why would the Others speak English? Because this is an American television show in which the majority of characters speak English.
Honestly, people, it's impossible for the show to be all inclusive. Most of the time, the writers are probably banking on the intelligence of the audience to catch the implications or allusions (which streamline story-telling) or to just play along and accept certain things are happening.
Yes, we DO watch the show.
Many of these questions are valid questions and deserve an appropriate answer, not just a 'figure it out for yourself'.
@ desmond815
We know that already
:)
Exactly, that's what I was pointing out :)
I was pointing out the questions that were being asked weren't really the right questions.
We know what happened to Henry, that his neck was broken and that he was buried, we surmise that it was by the others seeing that Ben knows so much about him, but for what reason was he killed, perhaps he was working for Widmore?
I'd imagine there is more to Henry Gale seeing who sponsored the balloon.
Or do all Widmore sponsored/owned vechiles make it to the island? :)
But Henry was really just a way in for Ben, Henry could be summed up as a scout for Widmore - searching for the Island, and it could be answered very quickly, so we still may hear more, but I doubt he's a big part in it. I could be wrong :)
I know we need more background, getting it as you say in 32 episodes may be difficult, but who knows? I can't see every single thing being answered.
Connections at one point seemed to figure quite alot in the show, but in the last while it's cooled on that, maybe it'll pick up somemore.
Or maybe they'll just chalk it up to fate.
At this rate, we'll need more than 2 seasons to explain many of the mysteries. What I'm really interested in is:
- Who are The Others? Where do they come from? From The Black Rock times o are they related to the four toed statue? Are all of them ageless or is it only Richard? What motivates their actions? And, last, but not least, how do they get such extensive information files on everybody?
- How come the losties are almost all related? It just can't be coincidence, we know that, but... Did The Island already control them before they took that plane? How and, exactly, why them?
- What happened with Walt? Why is him more than The Others bargained for? What makes him special and so dangerous to make them release him so easily?
- Is Jacob an spirit or just part of one of those ancient beings who were believed not to have bodies? Is he God? Is he one with The Island, or are they separate forces? What about those healing powers? How does The Island control people even after they left?
- Are people really dead and gone or do they keep wandering on The Island? Or is it that The Island only keeps the spirits it has interest on? Why? They can get material forms. Are those zombies who travel in time, too?
- Richard Malkin's predictions. Is he right? What did he really mean by 'raised by another'? What about his 'coming back from the dead' daughter?
- Tallahassee... what's up with Tallahassee?
- Hope they explain Smokey's motivations. I don't care what he is but why he acts the way he does.
- How did Dharma discover The Island? How is it possible they keep droping supplies?
Re: Horace - I'm fairly sure that the producers knew what they were doing when they showed the close-up on the "Mathematician" title on his nametag when Locke was fiddling with his corpse...
If he didn't come up with "the numbers" himself, then I'm fairly sure he had something to do with them...
RWG (and they hinted fairly strongly that he had something to do with "Jacob's" cabin)
Re. Henry Gale: I very much doubt that Henry Gale is of any real importance. We know from the writing on his balloon that he was connected with Widmore, but beyond that I'm happy to fill in the blanks for myself.
What I'd really like to know about the whole Henry Gale episode is why Ben adopted that alias in the first place, given that -- if we believe what he says -- he was on his way to find the 815 survivors anyway. Can we assume that he would have used the 'Henry Gale' strategy even if he hadn't been caught by Danielle?
And will we ever find out the real reason for his journey across the island to the survivors' camp? Was he telling the truth in Two for the Road when he told Locke that he was coming for him? Or was his intention to try to convince Jack to remove his tumour and save his life?
And while I'm on the subject of the tumour, why does Ben wait for weeks and weeks after the crash before taking steps to secure Jack's help? Presumably he knew about Jack's background within days of his arrival on the island, so why not act immediately?
Something else I'd like to know: why is it that the Others (or Jacob) deemed twelve (and therefore over half) of the twenty-three tail section survivors worthy of joining their society, and yet of the forty-eight mid-section survivors the only people they seemed interested in were Walt and Locke (and possibly Claire)? In fact, they wanted more than twelve of the tailies: Eko, had they succeeded in taking him, would have been thirteen, and Cindy is fourteen. Why the difference? Is it just a massive coincidence that the vast majority of the 'good ones' were in the tail section? Some people think that it's because Ethan was killed before he could give Ben his list, but if that's the case, how come the Others know so much about the mid-section survivors and their backgrounds?
And about the lists: Ben tells Goodwin and Ethan that he wants lists in three days, but the Others come for the tailies on the very first night. Okay, so Goodwin could have radioed the information back to his people, but there's no way he could have found out everyone's name in such a short time. And even if he had, there still wouldn't have been time for the Others to (i) take the information to Mikhail at the Flame in order that he could find out who those people were, and (ii) take the information to Jacob so that he could tell them which ones were 'good', and therefore should be abducted and integrated into 'Other' society.
Re. the supply drop. As far as I'm concerned, this mystery was pretty much solved in The Economist, when Daniel's rocket failed to turn up on time. I was surprised at the time by how few people seemed to make the connection -- the supply drop was the first thing I thought of.
I admit, most of my questions aren't strictly relevant here, since they're about things that don't add up rather than things which have been explicitly set up as bone fide mysteries. It's just that once I started typing I couldn't stop.
Of course we all watch the show, maybe some of us have missed a couple of things (I found out Isabel died after I saw it online), while others know every single event and whatever about the show.
Maybe the point here is to show that there is a LOT more (hopefully to come) from this amazing story. I'm not saying they (Darlton) MUST answer all of this, if they want they can began the Zombie Season starting next year, at the end it's their story, what can we do, right?... but I think it's not ok to leave so many unconcluded or unsolved issues, and mainly because Lost (besides its characters) it all about the mysteries.
But anyway, at least the answers they've given us aren't really that bad. I think it's a lot of work to come up with great explanations for the many things they invent.
@Debs
I agree, some of us were not making the right questions (you even answered some of them), and well as you said it, it's probably too much information for the 32 episodes left.
The small things, like Henry Gale, could be answered very quickly, and I don't know why Darlton haven't explained them... But things like Rouseau's or Libby's story, those are bigger pieces of information. And I'm not that interested in Libby (still her story needs to be addressed, besides it looks like she's got a lot of fans), for example, what I really want to see, is what happened to Rouseau's people back in 1989 and 1990 (I'm guessing the years through Alex's age) when they arrived to explore the island.
And about the Connections between characters, I think you are right. Fate, it's all about fate. And it's something that happens frequently in real life as well. So it's believable (at least for me) if they give this one to Fate :)
@ Andrew Sparkes
Well wow, nice theory, especially the one in your first comment, I think it makes a lot of sense. It fits and if that happens it will explain a lot.
And I had a similar idea. I think Ben's motivation in the Purge is not his father, Roger, actually... it's always been Annie. He probably loved her and she betrayed him. He gets mad. Goes to Richard. And BOOM. Dharma's gone.
The betrayal, well you said she got pregnant... And you are probably right, and I bet she delivered before the Purge and someway she send the child through time (or maybe she just used a boat :P) to save him/her. Maybe we've seen that child already, all grown up. And Charlotte would be a perfect choice.
@ crapdaniel
I don't know why I wrote harper :S
I meant Isabel.
She was confirmed dead on 2007 Comic-Con ( according to Lost Wikia ).
Tom said... Number 8 - The four-toed statue. I believe Darlton said that this would play a role in Season 4... I'm still waiting for that... Anyway, the ancient history of the island interest me most
==========
Writer's strike.
I believe that both Rosseau's flashback (and the fact she asked to be killed) and learning about the 4-toed statue were casulties of the strike.
It's also possible it's more dharma-related which will make much more sense being in season 5.
Henry Gale's story is as important to the show as Jack's tattoos.
You have to recognize what is important to the story. Henry Gale, at this point, definitely is not.

That's exactly the problem, all the answers for these "secondary" mysteries are a lot less interesting than the mysteries themselves :)
You guys wanna bet that the answer to half of all these questions will be "because the island wanted"? For example, "the real Henry Gale ended up on the island... because the island wanted". "The 'incident' happened... because the island wanted". "The food drop arrived at that specific time... because the island wanted. It could have arrived one day earlier, or three centuries later, but the island wanted it to arrive at that particular point in time." In other words, the über-power recently attributed to the island/Jacob/whatever will be the ultimate cop-out with which they will explain all the mysteries they introduced without first making sure they had compelling answers for.
Desmond815: "The betrayal, well you said she got pregnant... And you are probably right, and I bet she delivered before the Purge and someway she send the child through time (or maybe she just used a boat :P) to save him/her. Maybe we've seen that child already, all grown up. And Charlotte would be a perfect choice."
No time travel needed. Ben is what, 46ish? Charlotte is 25.
Ben and Annie's relationship fell apart before she had Razinsky's kid at age 18ish, when Ben was 21ish. It was young love but destined to fail. Annie died in childbirth and Ben sent Razinsky to the Swan, to tear it off the map and ignore it for years to come until he himself winded up there, prisoner himself.
Charlotte was sent off the island and spent 25 years subconsiously trying to return. Simple.
Most of the mysterious on the show have become irrelevant only by neglect, not a grand scheme of red herrings created by the writers. What seemed important to the narrative at the time, and huge clues to the overall mythology, have been swept under the rug in favor of something else. Many things will be chalked up to "island mysteries" or "Ben was lying" when in fact, at the time, they appeared vital to progress the story. Or, things have changed so much that they lose their initial appeal, such as the Others, lists, DHARMA stations and, dare I say it, the monster. If you watch the premieres of Season 1 and 2, and the first 5 minutes of A Tale of Two Cities, you have what LOST could/should have been.
They also mentioned in an interview months back, that there was more to visit on The Swan, but they will not be going back to it.
So, what the hell!

tottally. The strong images in those premiers is what gets me the most, and even the music sometimes really helps too (season 1 and 2 had alot of music in them, what happend? i loved it!) Its not just the plot it can be alot of other things in a scene that can take it from good to amazing. The first few minuites of the season 2 premier, hell the whole thing, were my favorite to watch out of anything ive ever seen on the show to date, i could watch it over and over and still get a goofy smile on my face when i hear "make your own kinda music"....it was brilliant. Holy shit theres a guy down there! Things like that draw you into the show, like they couldnt have made a better pilot episode, and no one ever will make a better pilot. it was beyond anything television has witnessed before, if you watched that, you were into it before you knew what lost even was because it was just that breathtaking you sincerely wanted to know what came next, not because you were already addicted to the show (like we are now, we have no choice!) simply because it was THAT GOOD.
season 3s premier was very good aswell, it captured the imagination, seeing the plane from the others prespective was a perfect way to kick off the season, because it was essentially all about them (and sawyer and kate doin' it) and having them come out of there dharma houses during a book club meeting was just the sugar on top. its just too bad the rest of season 3 couldnt live up to it. and all of season 4 couldnt live up to everything that has been put in place by all of this awesomeness that we are so lucky to have whitnessed, greatness had been acheived already on lost, and i hope they will be able to prove us all wronge and make a season or two even better than that! they need to, thats all there is too it.
i want to actually love watching lost again, i want it to feel like im watching a mini movie again, one so good you cant focus on anything but what your watching not just because you have an obligation to watch it to the end because youve watched it thus far, why quit now.
they dont have to answer every question, not at all, like someone had said life is full of unanswered questions and lifes questions, well thats pretty much the basis of lost (destiny trust fate etc.), but who wouldnt be pissed looking at these lists and remembering back to when the question was raised on the show, thinking it was at least of some importance at the time and wondering and theorizing about it, and we thought it deserved an answer, at least at some point, only to have it forgotten by the ones who gave you that mystery to ponder on in the first place, it kinda sucks, there setting us up over and over and then....nothing, or "eventually" it makes the show seem not as great as we all think it is, its not turning out the way alot of fans expected, it changes drastically from season to season in every way (overall plot, characters personalities, central characters) its alot to compute, and alot to try and peice together without any help from the show itself. its dissapointing, and i just wish damon and carlton will adress this issue, because even if they dont give a shit what we think, without silly fans like us who sit here and go on and on about a fictional story, they wouldnt have nearly the viewers they do, lost wouldnt be the fenom it is, its the most talked about show, because of the very mysterys were defending! we do deserve to be heard, because anyone who is this concerned about someone we dont even know's peice of work, good or bad critisism, thats a pretty big compliment to everyone on the lost team, and we do deserve a well orchestrated final 2seasons of our favorite show, because then, thats it folks! and lost deserves the best farewell possible.
since (well I think anyways) season 1 and 2 were the perfect combo, went together like PB and J (imaginary PB of course) maybe juuust maybe the same will hold true for 5 and 6. First two and last two seasons should flow naturally into eachother, and be the most enjoyable to watch right? first two were the beggining, they had to be interesting and meld together nice, or else no one would get into the show, the last two should be a smooth sweet ride aswell, savw the best for last? i hope so! and then we can all just forget about the middle and stop whining. that would be nice
one more thing before i shut the hell up,
less action, they went action overload season 3 and 4, we need more interesting interation between characters like the good ol days, the kind that make you think, the kind that have tasty sprinkles of philosphy and humour, mystery, suspense, and my favorite assholiness. and those to me are waaay more interesting to watch than a fight scene, and we could do without those conversations that go absolutly nowhere, (nice tatoos?) ("stop fucking my husband you dirty whore juliette?") or how about all the ones I cant even remember because they were so boring.
More conversations like locke and eko in the hatch with the bible, the very first dharma video "were gonna have to watch that again" sawyer and kate playing I never, jack confronting kate about what she did and talking about blank slates, counting to five, locke saves jack from falling off a cliff in white rabbit and talks to him and tottaly trips him out, locke playing backgammon with walt, finding vincint, and teaching him how to throw knives, light sticks anyone? whos up for some of lockes crazy paste? or how about the scenes where no one is talking and theres willy nelson or some other pretty song playing as the pan around the beach or the caves and show everyone at peace and interating with eachother and it gives you warm fuzzys until! ahh its that crazy locke, i wonder what hes thinking? or sonofabitch my battiers are dead! or even something as simple as the look on kates face in the rafters when mama cass starts to sing. my favorite kiss on the show? the first one were one participant was "tied to a tree in a jungle of mystery" who conned a kiss out of the pretty little convict. system failure! i crashed your bloody plane!! these are moments I will never forget because they seemed significant for some reason, they made you smile or laugh out loud or even ponder your existance, for me thats what shapes the show...hmmm lets see are there any from seasons 3 or 4.... maybe ben prancing up a hill or pulling a turkey or w.e it is out of the oven, jack saying sonofabitch was pretty good, the island moving, ooo horse shoes! "see you guys at dinner!" "because your mine!!!" raaar! well yah, there were a few but its tottally lost its oomff in the character department bens got the best lines now.
shooting the marshal, in the stomach....
Well said, dharmabeer!
why thank you, although i wish i refrained from saying so much :) just tryin' to save lost from the evil dooers.
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this as I havent had time to read all the posts but...
What about the Whispers? Darlton havent said a word about them.
"b said: "Remember how anticlimatic the reveal that Charlie faked Sun's kidnapping was in Expose?""
Remember when this was revealed in Season Two in the very episode in which it was featured?
The middle of most stories has to set stuff up... dramatic narrative can always be screwed over by the writers knowing they need to introduce certain ideas without giving a reason why...
But then they make sense in the end.
Don't expect the end to be totally satisfying. But it will be satisfying enough i think.
awesome
@ desmond815
First off abc said the next to seasons will be 17 hours each, for a total of 34 more hours, and extra 2 to replace the lack of them this past season. Also, team Darlton said Jacob, the smoke monster, and what exactly the island is will not be answered until the series finale. Of course they will be answered then they are they underlying mysteries of the show.
@ J
Come on. Fans like you are on the verge of disgusting. With questions such as:
13) Is Mr Kwon Jins real father?
The fisherman guy? Why the hell wouldn't he be Jin's real father? He was ashamed of thim being a fisherman.
15) Who was the American woman that Mr Jae Lee was in love with before Sun?
Who cares? What would it matter?
16) Why did Mr Lee commit suicide?
Sure looked like he jumped to me.
17) What is the significance of the watched given to Jin to deliver to business associates in Syndey and LA. Who are these associates?
He was delivering a watch. Come on man.
25) Where is Yemis body?
In that plane. Eko set fire to it along with the plane.
27) Is Kilo the Mob Boss still after Sawyer over lost money?
Again, what does it matter?
I could go on with more absolutely ridiculous questions, but for the sake of my brain I can't go on. come on guy use your head once in a while. You sound like a little kid that asks questions about everything such as what color is air.
Anyways, I have my doubts about smaller things being answered, such as the Henry Gale issue, but who really cares? What is it really going to matter if he was a spy for Widmore or he was just ballooning across the Pacific? What difference would it make if he broke his neck in his balloon crash or Ben snapped his neck? It wouldn't matter to say the least. It would change absolutely nothing. It's about as pointless as who Kate ends up with in the end. Those things don't trully affect the story of Lost. I have faith that more important things will be answered. Rousseau could be dealt with in a single episode, I'm not sure how it would work into it, but still it can be done. Libby could also be answered in an episode or maybe just a few minutes of an episode. All I'm concerned with is why did she say she was a psychiatrist but she was in Santa Rosa with Hurley. That could probably be explained in a short time frame. The ghosts/apparitions I'm sure will be answered along with what the Island really is. I feel that questions important to the story will be answered, while smaller questions without much significance can be left open. Such as all those pointless questions from J.
I miss Eko. He was my fave...
Libby's husband's death, Karl's parents, Tampa Job, dog painting, what was Sayid digging (it could be a new septic tank, let's use our imagination :), Keamy in Uganda...
Yeah, I agree with xlouderx. If they need to answer questions like these, seasons 5 and 6 are gonna be really boring.
@louis grebowski
I miss Eko a lot as well... I always try to imagine his reactions to what is going on on the Island these days :(
Thank you Desmond815 , you really hit the nail on the head. And Thanks Dharmabeer for venting all this out for us. Not only the millions of mysteries frustrated me but its worsen writing really get me too. I m with you. The conversation get worse and worse in S4. They are unbelievably short /chop and bland. I know the writers don’t want to answer anything yet. That’s why all characters avoid to ask and answer the other’s question. But you should have written something better than,:
Jack : What’re u doing John? (in loud voice)
Locke : You’re not suppose to do this Jack. (clam voice)
Jack : I m not suppose to do what.
Locke : Do what u gonna do.
Jack : And why the hell i m not gonna do that?
Locke : The island tells us. It’s destiny.
Jack : What’s the island tell you John?
Locke : It doesn’t matter now. Deep down you know it (hello i m the viewer and i don’t know it) But you’re not suppose to do it Jack.
Not exactly the same but something like this over and over when Jack met Locke. In fact both characters are great. They deserved better dialogues. Don’t u think?
And Kate, would she still be our lead female character? God, this season , all she has done is running around jack, trying to flirt with him every fraking chance she got. Go back and forth between two men and end up bitch slap both of them. So her favorite lines are ...What? (make blank face), So we’re going to get off the island (Smile), say hey or hi to Jack. Meh. Oh...and the precious is she tries so hard to get Miles out just to know what is her status in the real world. Is she still wanted? Oh baby it’s only 3 months, not 30 years that the outside world would forget who you are and why you are wanted.
Not to mention the Out of characters stuff, All losties, good or bad, they’re knowing each other for 3 months , most of them are friends. But when they decided to split in the season premier. It came out that they ‘re hostiles? Sayid and Kate gotta sneak in with guns to locke camp. Hurley lures them to the trap. They point guns at each other WTH is that?? This is not necessary if they do have some proper conversation.
I m doubting when the actors got their scripts. Would they think their lines got chop? Or their roles would be reduced? Nothing much for them to talk these days, they can use ¼ of their brain to get thru the scripts. I know that they emphasize more on action and plot but good action cannot come good writing? Or this is the effect of the strike?
what color is air anyways?
sand, you just said everything i have not said yet but still wanted to vent out. writing has suffered big time, and its starting to reaaaallly show, you gave some good examples. when every character down grades, you know the writers fucked up, maybe its the comic book writer they hired. no main characters have a good talk any more, just bland bullshit, and kates blank look, and very boring mindless dialog, dont get me started! can you remember when losts diolog used to make you THINK remember watching lost and THINKING and i dont mean thinking wtf to yourself, i mean using your noggin because there were all these meanings behind things, nothing seems to have any purpous anymore. its like they told poor evangeline not to talk and just look pretty in the contract, and notice how they even have her wearing lower cut shirts and spray her with all that fake sweat juice wow shes changed before our eyes, like complete opposite to season 1, how the fuck does that happen? are the producers hiring those typing monkeys they always show on tv. the strike couldnt possiblly be the reason for this incompetance, or else it wouldnt have slowly started creeping up on us during season 3 then bamo! eggtown....it was all downhill from there.

and thank you, sand, finally i can read someone else typing that, theres nothing that bugs me more than that, just think back people, re watch season 1 and 2 if you have to and just bask in the differences and inconsistancys between then and now. i will never forgive the writers for turning everyone on eachother for no reason, the story thrives when this amazing ensamble cast can work together! all of the actors are such a strong force on screen when they can share intellegently written and entertaining scenes, no one even has to get there neck broken by sayids feet or slapped by kate for it to be interesting, just talk man, talk about something cool.
Man, there sure is an awful lot of complaining going on....Anyways: I personally don't care if the little mysteries are solved. It makes the show fun. You can make up your own mind about things, and I think the writers expect viewers to be intelligent and come to their own conclusions about things.
Plus I think some of these "mysteries" are just things that we viewers find in the show because we over-analyze too much! : )
cjscott i agree, who gives a shit about the hurly bird, but alot of them arent small or stupid ones, alot of them have been explored way more than once on the show and alot of them have been promised an answer by TPTB
The writers had time to reveal that Mr. Friendly is gay. Do u think they gonna have time to tell us more about a taller-Walt stop Locke from shooting himself? I really hope they explore more about walt coz the boy seems not so special in s4.
Also, the whispers, or it's just the noise the others make when they're going to kill or kidnap somebody? just that?
The others characters that i hope they revisit are Mrs Hawking and Radzinsky.
I think i better keep my expectation LOW. Before s4, i were really keen to know why the o6 gotta lie , how does kate get off jail. But i felt cheated on kate's part. Look like they were very lazy to write decent story for her. Nowaday it's BEN BEN and BEN who got everything.

YAH! they cant write anything decent for kate anymore, or seem to make any sense while doing so. eggtown was such a huge dissapointment, kates entire existance on the show had become a huge dissapointment. i was thinking a bribe, kiddnapping, threats, a deal to keep her mouth shut in return etc. because it seemed pretty impossible for her to get off all those charges without something shady going down, and how she did get off turned out to be completly impossible all the way down to the state she was tried in.
i also really want to know more about mrs hawking and the monk, and radzinski! out of everything they just seem so mysterious and very important, im definatly interested in them, fuck captin gault :P walt deserves a story before that guy!!!
I'm sure they didn't speak about any of these comments just for a matter of time. The strike surely influenced the decisions of the authors. For example, I think that the 4-toed-foot is linked to the temple and it will be shown to us in the next season :))))
Hmm. It seems, judging by the comments here, that most people here want just a retread of Seasons 1 and 2.
Both seasons were beautiful, as were seasons 3 and 4, really. I have been re-watching Lost from season 1 (during the hiatus...and because Lost, well, rocks) and it seems like there are just as many "throwaway" episodes in these seasons.
Because of the writers strike and the determined end, there is a lot of editing. When seasons 1 and 2 were airing, the writers/producers didn't know how long they were going to keep the show going, hence a lot of character episodes with little plot.
Now that they have a definite end (and somewhat due to the strike), they are tight with editing. What once took a whole episode to say, they say in half an episode. They aren't using circular dialogue and miscommunication to keep a vignette running for 45 minutes anymore, but are using action and dialogue to advance plot and character.
For example: the scene where Kate gets mad at Sawyer when she tells him she's not pregnant and he celebrates. While season 2 may have explored that for three episodes, it is more realistic, and better written in that one intimate scene...Kate wants the man's child and her ideal lover would want her child. It tells a lot about Kate's character.
Note: there are also a few new writers for the show who started near the end of season 3, and the effect is noticeable.
But to those who hate seasons 3 and 4: Lost is an epic and the past two seasons were the middle, like "Empire Strikes Back" or "The Two Towers"...Did you hate those film/book sections? Like "Darth Vader is his dad? Han is frozen? LAAAME!! Han is swashbuckling and Darth is a bad guy!?!?!?!?!!111!!"
Or: "Lord of the Rings is about Hobbits...why are there guys riding horses????Q?Q! Trees that TALK???!!"
I don't think we need more episodes on how "Kate loves to run" or "Sawyer loves to con" or "Jack loves to save stuff". There are multiple episodes that have the same theme and that aspect of their character has been established to the point of redundancy.
Sorry for the rant...but there are 34-ish episodes left and much time for both plot and characterization, and with 2 and a half seasons of almost pure characterization, it's good to see the characters finally in action. It's the writers' show and their characters, and we should respect that.
I Loved this post and all the comments. Up until today I was just a casual viewer of LOST. Some friends wanted me to catch up so I watched all 4 seasons on ABC.com in about 2 weeks. I've never looked for more info on the web until today. I've got to be honest, I would really like answers to alot of these questions, but never once have I ever had questions about libby. I really could care less. It seems like her story really bothers some people, but I don't understand it. Maybe in the future she will matter and she will have significance, but as of now, she's a minor character... and she's dead. I can't believe how intense people are about her on the web. I never would have even known if I hadn't started browsing. I think some people need to remember more about what they actually saw on the show and less about what they read or what producers may have said.
Another similar thing that I don't think I noticed until I started reading online. The 4 toed statue. I remember it, but I didn't think it was that important to the story. I could be wrong.
Things to focus on:
Dharma, Smoke Monster Thing, Island's "Powers", Jacob, Jack's Dad
My prediction about Libby:
I think we were supposed to find out more about her through Daniel Faraday, but his flashbacks were pushed into Season 5/6 as a result of the strike. Think about it: Libby was in a mental institution and Daniel doesn't seem exactly right in the head at some points, so he could have spent some time in Santa Rosa just like Hurley and Libby.
PS: Christopher, Libby was creditted as a main character and she was the only main character to never have a flashback of her own (the only one she had was in "Dave" and it was a very short flashback only to show us that she's in Santa Rosa). In addition to that, we've seen her in Desmond's flashback as well. I think the reason people are so caught up with wanting to know Libby's story is because she WAS a main character but she NEVER got her story told and she's the only one who hasn't had her story told (with the exception of Faraday, Miles, and Charlotte, but they're still alive)
As a few people have mentioned before, we have to observe lost as what it really is, a "tv show" full of actors with real life commitments and desires (living in hawaii isn't the best, at least not to a person with a family in the mainland). There's also the lives of the writers, producers, directors... As such, some stories get compromised such as the absense of Eko, the death of Rousseau and some stories get cut for the sake of pushing the show forward.
I agree that some characterization that made the show special in the beginning has been all but gone (especifically, focused on ben). However most of the characters that are really important to the show have already been defined in a good way. A foundation has been built (season 1 and 2) And from there a story is being told.
Yes, the stories in season 1 and 2 are heartwarming, intriguing and personal, but that was their aim. If season 3 and 4 "feel" differently it is because they have to. A show in which it would simply be about getting to know 40some survivors (and really only about 8-10) and a monster for 6 seasons would have gotten really old really fast.
By getting an ending, we have avoided a long running show that goes nowhere and forgets small and big things(X files). The small mysteries that have been addressed here are just victims of the fact that they had to stall.
About the show itself, there is a lot of mysteries that have to be solved, but before questioning them, ask yourself first, are these mysteries ones that HAVE to be solved because of their importance to the plot, or ones that you WANT to be solved but don't really move the plot (especially now). Even the toe statue is a whatever, hell there's stonehenge and ruins all over OUR world and we still don't know anything!
For now, we have a long break ahead of us, and sure it gives us time to look back at aaaallll the things that lost HAS to do, but i'm sure the writers and the producers will also take advantage and do likewise. This hopefully will provide some of the best episodes of lost yet.
Lets face it, it's not going to please everyone, it never does... but we already love this show enough to be here writing in this blog!!
