Here is an interesting little interview of Malcolm David Kelly who plays Walt. Nothing too shocking or major, but Kelly confirms that he is NOT on call for Season 5. He also says that he knows that something will probably "pop up" and thinks (hopes) that we could see him and father Michael via flashbacks.
Here is the LOST portion of the interview:
Crave Online: It was great to see you back on Lost finally.
Malcolm David Kelly: Thank you, appreciate it.
Crave Online: How was it to get back after all this time?
Malcolm David Kelly: It was cool. I mean, just going back and going back to Hawaii and seeing everybody, all my friends and family back there. It was nice and amazing, I love it.
Crave Online: So you had a reunion with the whole cast?
Malcolm David Kelly: Oh yeah, oh yeah. The cast, every time I go out there, we go out and eat. Or every time I'm back in LA when we have a break like this, we're all hanging out.
Crave Online: Were you in a holding pattern just waiting to find out when they'd have Walt back?
Malcolm David Kelly: Yeah, and working. Whenever they call me and let me know when they want me to come back, I'll just go out there and shoot and come back home and keep working.
Crave Online: Were you ever worried that so much time was passing?
Malcolm David Kelly: Yeah, I thought they were either going to try to recast me or just kill me off or something like that. I'm grateful that I'm still on there.
Crave Online: Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse told us they'd worked your aging into the story. Did they tell you not to sweat it?
Malcolm David Kelly: No, they didn't tell me not to sweat it. I'm still sweating a little bit but then when I found out I was my normal age, then it all worked out. Everything should be cool. That meant I should come back.
Crave Online: Now that Lost has been on for a few years, can you appreciate it as a fan?
Malcolm David Kelly: The show is great. There's still nothing else out there like this show so that's always amazing for TV and it's amazing for me.
Crave Online: When you finally got a script with Walt in it, how satisfied were you with where he was at that point?
Malcolm David Kelly: I was glad and especially the age factor like we talked about. I'm glad I got to play my normal age so I wouldn't have to change my voice like I've been trying to do and make it higher in scenes and everything like that. So that's a pretty cool transition.
Crave Online: How about his adjustment back to home life and his relationship with his father?
Malcolm David Kelly: I thought that was pretty cool but then my dad died on the show so I won't be seeing him too much anymore, but I'm still going to see him in real life. In flashbacks, hopefully they give us enough where we still get to keep working together so I'm looking forward to it.
Crave Online: Are you on call for the upcoming season?
Malcolm David Kelly: No, not that they've told me so far but I know something probably is going to pop up.
Crave Online: Because now we're bouncing back and forth.
Malcolm David Kelly: Yeah, we can go anywhere they want to with those writers.

First, or whatever.
But really, the producers haven't contacted him yet?? WTF?
Bringing Walt back in the finale and finally explaining his aging seemed like an obvious way to reincorporate him into the show. Obviously there's more of his story to tell.
So the producers better get on it already. I would have liked to see him back as series regular next season. Damn, well hope the producers wise up and get him back onboard.
Also, I guess you could say I'm pissed cause Walt's on my LFL team. Gotta get me those points.
What was the point of having him reappear in the finale (AGAIN) if he is not a part of Season 5?
The return of Walt and Michael has been handled so poorly that they might as well not have brought them back at all.
It all happened with very little suspense. Michael is the mystery man on the frieghter who gets killed off after minimal screen time. And Walt visits Hurley in the mental hospital for what reason? So we can see how much he has grown?
We need Walt back for Season 5!
Of course Walt will be back for season 5, but not like a regular characther i think..... i belive he have to come back to the island too and when they do, on the end of season 5, he will back like a regular on season 6 for sure.
It sounds more and more like they're going to backload the crap out of season six. They're really putting off closing, or even continuing, major plotlines.
he just said he's not on for season 5 YET!
are they even taping shows yet? i think they've got time to write some scripts with him in it.
If "everyone has to go back" includes John Locke's corpse, I would think it would also include the non-corpse of Taller Walt.
So... yeah, he'll be back in S5, but that's probably so far along into the season (like the S5 finale), that he hasn't gotten that phone call yet.
My guess ? He might not be seen so much in S5, but Walt will be a series regular again for S6.
Walt didn't want to leave the island in the first place, that's why he burned the raft. I think Jack or someone will bring him back to the island.
For several reasons:
1: To re-unite with Vincent
2: I wanna see him visit Jacob & see his mystery powers explained, especially all the bird stuff {like we saw in the Mobisode} & his connections to the island.
3: It will be good to see him again on the show. He's been on the sidelines for too long.
This is disappointing.
What are you guys talking about? Walt doesn't need to get back to the island. Why would the island let him go in the first place? Besides, the island itself let Michael die. The only reason why Walt would need to re appear in the show, is to show the scene between him and Bentham. But I don't think we need Walt to be regular. One of so mny annoyin characters in the show.
"Why would the island let him go in the first place?"
Why would the island let the Oceanic 6 go in the first place?
Why would the Island let Walt go ? Maybe so he wasn't there when Keamy came along, doing his little massacre, or be there for something else that has yet to happen (likewise, Aaron got off the Island as well).
I don't know... the only reason why the 06 think they need to go back, is because Ben told them... I don't think the island has told them to go back.
And besides... why do people keep arguing about the worst characters? Kate, Michael, Libby, Walt, Claire and all those suckers that are so boring that makes you wanna puke when you see them. I really don't wanna see Walt again.
@samus88
What is boring to you can be awesome for another people.
lol@Malcolm, gotta love em.
Reading that was like talking to my son who is actually (within days) the exact same age as my son. That's about what it's like trying to get info out of a 16 year old...they make no sense ya know, they are in fact the really "the others" :)
@gregdean
The Island had to let Walt go to save Ben Henry Gale Linus....it was a plot device to get Malcolm off the show because of his growth; hell by the time he took off on the boat with Michael he was already up to Harold's shoulder, island time this was what 2 months? You see in the interview where he said he had to make his voice sound high; Malcolm was 12 in real life when the show aired...Walt was 10.
Why did The Island let the 06 go? They were never on Jacob's list to begin with. IMO there were other forces at play here, was it really Jacob speaking through Christian when Locke when in the cabin; why did the O6 suddenly become so important to the Island is a good question...they were flawed, remember? I don't believe Locke was talking to "Jacob" and most likely Locke never told Ben "oh and by the way, Jacob wasn't there so I talked to some guy named Christian".
samus-- Locke, not Ben, went around telling everyone they had to go back.
No. Ben told them. Bentham told them first but none of them actually believed him. After Ben aproaches Jack, and tells him they all need to go back, then they atually will plan to go back (season 5 it seems).
And @Universo Lost:
I never said that. I am talking what I think. All those characters are extremly boring to me. If you find them awesome, there you go. The fact that I said "why do people still argue about" is a way of sayin. It was a rhetorical question. I know most people disagree with me. Sorry if I offended anyone (hardly).
Remember that when Ben let Walt and Michael leave after the big reveal that he was the leaders of the others, he made it clear that he was not pleased with the arrangements of letting Walt go, Walt was never meant to leave the island and he was on Jacob's list. "Henry Gale" told Jack "they'll never give you Walt".
This interview is double talk...IMO Walt is meant to go back to the island. Does it sound like he's not available? No. I'll believe Walt's not going back when I see it. Malcolm knows more than he's saying.
There goes my fantasy league.
I doubt that all the episodes are written yet. Probably, even if they HAVE written one with him in it, with the SAG situation it could be months before people get back to work.
