Ausiello has a little more info on the 2 new characters that we posted earlier.
Production on Lost's fifth season gets underway in 12 days, so that can only mean one thing: Fresh intel is starting to pour in!
Sources confirm that Team Darlton is looking to introduce two new characters this season – and they're both as mysterious as they are lethal. They're also coming in as recurring players with an option to become series regulars in Season 6.
First up is Casear, a dangerous, physical and extremely intelligent male between the ages of 35 and 45. Although his intentions are unclear, this much is certain: he's as skillful at charming people as he is at killing them. He also has a dark past, but, c'mon, that much was a given.
The other newbie is Ilanna, a European female in her late 20s to early 30s who possesses great intelligence, but who's also dangerous as all get out. She's alluring and apparently used to getting her own way.
Casting for both roles is just now getting started, so feel free to use the comments section below to state your case for a particular actor/actress.

I think they should try to get a big name for a character. I'm not talking movie star status but it would be nice to see somebody we're already accustomed to seeing on the telly.
Otherwise, I'd quite like to see a new English character on the show. Us Brits are very good at playing dark and mysterious so Casear could be perfect as a Britishmen.
Nothing to see here. Seriously, 90% of new character descriptions are all pretty much the same since the show's inception. Zzzzzz
What marcus said. Every new character is intelligent and dangerous with a dark past. The men are physical and the women are alluring. Expect no more light-hearted comic relief characters, like Hurley or Charlie, or ugly women who never get what they want for the rest of the series.
Don't read into these casting descriptions too much. I remember some of the descriptions for the freighter people was nothing like they really were. Even the names were different.
A ) Daniel and / or Jin end up in the Island's past and...
B) Caesar is a younger version of Charles Widmore, who is sort of a corporate "Caesar" figure and yes...
C) Ilanna is the young Danielle Rousseau. The cover name "Ilanna" even has some of the same letters, reversed/mixed up, as Danielle's name. The same is sort of true for Caesar/Charles.
Moviemaniac, the descriptions of their jobs were a decoy, but their personality/characteristics were accurate. That way they got the actors they wanted but fooled people as to their role in the show. These two descriptions of the newbies are completely characteristic, and not about their role (i.e. it doesn't say that they're corporate sharks or military or anything).
Greg has an interesting, and plausible, theory. The description makes it sound like they're new, with the possibility of becoming regulars, but that may be the throw-off.
good theory greg
I had the same thought as Greg except in my version they play the DeGroots. I know we saw them on film briefly but that doesn't have to stick.
That is a cool theory but it would probably have the show going in too many directions. Scenes about Jin and Daniel in the past, scenes of those remaining on the island in the present, scenes of those off the island in the present. That's before you get into flashbacks, flash forwards, or whatever "flash sideways" means.
I think they're going to be people that work for Widmore. Whatever the casting call was for the actress that played the German woman Sayid shot was probably roughly the same, we just never saw it.
My first impressions are Widmore's peeps. If this Cesar guy is so skillful at killing people then he may have had an encounter with one J. Bentham ;)
They could also be Dharma, Abbadon's cohorts or even Danielle's crew. Who knows..
Jamthonzi: I hope they don't hire British actors. I love Damon annd Carlton and their writing, but the fact is they can't write British - and especially English - characters. No one on the British isles has ever said 'bartender'. England is not an island, Britain is. And British people don't say 'sodding' anything like - I mean ANYTHING LIKE - as much as the writers think they do.
Maybe they'll be Adam and Eve, the two skelletons in the caves, which could also be the degroots.
Or the man could be some one that was hired by widmore to defend his people from Sayid the killing machine.
I hope they cast complete unknowns.
When L O S T first started that was what was so great about it. Fresh bunch, with some well seasoned's. Although Jason Patric would be good.
Let's try again on Peter Stormare, eh?
These characters seem to follow along with what we saw in "The Economist." More targets for Sayid, maybe?
Crow- The only re-ocurring cast members who say 'sodding' are Charlie and Liam. In fact, I don't recall anybody else using the word at all aside from some of the Royal Scotts soldiers. Widmore, Penny, Naomi, and Charlotte never used it.
I too believe that the new characters are Widmore's people. Otherwise, the only antagonists for the 06 are Abaddon (if he's even a bad guy) and redshirt agents like the one Sayid killed at the Santa Rosa Mental Institution.
Oh dear...I haven't been paying much attention to the boards lately...now I've got to mull over Greg's theory until I go crazy!
(P.S. That's a good thing...I like the theory...especially since we are supposed to see Danielle's backstory without it being a flashback!)
How are they gonna show us Danielle's Story without it being a flashback?
Start that episode in the "Past"?
That and what about a "flash sideways", Wouldn't that have to be an Alternate Time-Line, or another reality/dimension/timeline -(possibly with a much different history...) One that is "near" to the one (or ones) we've seen so far?
Given all the theoretical science and all the buzzwords (many of which are Quantum Physics - or closely related ideas/theorem) that they've been dropping like The Casimir Effect, Kerr Metric, and too many others to list - would fit the "no time travel" thing they sorta semi-promised.
It would be more along the line of "Sliders" as far as the sci-fi physics goes, and they could say the original events (IE: those we've already seen) didn't "change" exactly - but they could've crossed paths or interwoven at certain points.
Maybe Hurley sees people that were dead in the original reality - but still very much alive in another. That might explain "Dave", Libby being in the same Mental Hospital, and a whole host of other unanswered questions from the previous seasons.

=====================
Yeah, it's good that most of the people on Lost are people that aren't big stars barring maybe Parrineau... until Jeremy Davies came in. He's a pretty big name.
I'd prefer people like Jorge Garcia and Matthew Fox, people you never heard of before you saw them on Lost... yet are damn good actors :)
This is getting slightly off subject, but I have to note something here...
"I'd prefer people like Jorge Garcia and Matthew Fox, people you never heard of before you saw them on Lost... yet are damn good actors :)"
You're right about Jorge, so I'm guessing you're just not aware of Matthew Fox's history... he used to be one of the stars of "Party of Five", a long running show that was actually pretty popular (in the USA). It was about a guy, Charlie Salinger (played by Fox) who had to take care of his three teenage siblings, and a baby, after their parents died (hence, a "party of five"). The show is sort of known as a "star maker", because a few of them went on to do other stuff... Neve Campbell, Lacey Chabert, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and of course, Matthew Fox.
I know a lot of people think Dominic Monaghan was the "star" actor when the show started (because of LOTR, duh), but I didn't know him as a "name" actor... the only actors I knew from that initial cast were Harold Perrineau (because of "OZ") and... Matthew Fox. I have a feeling I'm not in the minority.
Getting back on topic, thanks to everyone who thought my theory up above was an interesting one. I've for so long been trying to always think of LOST theories without using time travel, but with Ben's time travel now canon, I'm more open to the idea that the way we are going to see Danielle's story outside of a flashback... the most logical way is some sort of time travel loopiness. And Daniel Farraday's voice on the Pierre Cheng video, well, that just sort of connects the dots, doesn't it ?
Having said that... remembering last year, and the Orchid video, my initial hunch was that it won't be until the end of season 5 that any of that will come into play, since we waited all season 4 before the Orchid video actually became "canon." Except if my theory about Caesar and Ilanna being Widmore and Rousseau is right, well, they're being cast like they show up in the first few episodes of season 5, not as episode 12-15 types. So, who knows... just a theory until it's not !
I also like the Adam and Eve Idea.
Wow surprised you hadn't heard of Matthew Fox before Lost. I didn't even watch Party of Five but I recognized him immediately when I saw the pilot.I also recognized Naveen right away as I had seen him in a few movies. Terry too. O.k I could go on... but I will stop now :)
Actually, many Lost cast members were pretty well-known prior to working in Lost.
Terry O'Quinn had a cult hit with the thriller movie The Stepfather in 1987, and he had ongoing roles on The West Wing, Millennium, the X-Files and Alias, among many other TV shows and films. Naveen Andrews was well known for his role in the Oscar-nominated film The English Patient in 1996. Matthew Fox had a hit run in Party of Five, and Harold Perrineau, Ken Leung, Lance Reddick and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje all had major roles in the HBO series Oz.
Daniel Dae Kim had a recurring role on Angel, the Buffy spinoff vampire series, Jeff Fahey has been in a zillion B movies and a few good ones, Jeremy Davies became famous for the film Spanking the Monkey and has had numerous roles in indy films, and Lance Reddick had the starring role on The Wire.
Actually Lost has a pretty stellar cast, especially considering how large the cast is. The budget for them has to be enormous!
About Jeremy Davies, Jeff Fahey, Lance Reddick, Michelle Rodriguez, etc... I think the point was more about who was "famous" when the show started. I recognized TOQ from all his character actor roles over the years, but I wouldn't put him in the famous category, you know? Obviously he had fans though. Younger people, on the other hand, might have been all like "oh, it's that girl from Roswell", or hey, that guy from The English Patient, or Party of Five.
The funny thing about this conversation is that the original plan was to have one "BIG" star, playing Jack, and have him die in the first episode... Michael "I'm Batman" Keaton.
Some random thoughts on this minor league spoiler...
Ceasar could mean that LOST is finally casting for the role of Jacob. I mean, if he is real, we will have to meet him sometime soon, right? Jacob is probably much like Richard Alpert in terms of agelessness.
The other thought is that he's the Number One henchman of Widmore, the field agent to does Charles' dirty work -- thus sending him into inevitable collision with Sayid in the future timeline.
I like Greg's call of Illana as a younger Danielle. The name is common around the Adriatic, right? So maybe LOST will get a younger Croatian woman to fill in some scenes for Mira Furlan.
Illana could also be a love interest, post-Nadia for Sayid.
I guess I just have a strong feeling that the beginning of Season 5 will have a lot of stuff about Sayid and Sun in Europe in the future timeline, maybe bringing Hurley along as well, with Kate, Aaron and Jack still stuck in L.A.
Really, these people could be anyone, given the descriptions. I for one wish there were some less determined, single-minded characters on Lost. Maybe Widmore's slacker little brother who he had to give a job to prevent getting crap from his mother at Christmas dinners, Rusty, who wants to find the Island, sure... but right after a few bong rips and a couple of episodes of Arrested Development. Or Jessica, the maid the Others hired, who would clean up Jacob's cabin if she could find the damn place.
I think Abaddon is Walt
I'm pretty sure that these new hires are just gonna be off-island antagonists. I doubt Ilanna is a love interest. How many women is Sayid going to tragically fall in love with? And why can't the same actress play rousseau?
And I doubt that this caesar person is Jacob. We all know Locke is Jacob.
I mean, im sure theres like 300 different theory pages on this, and a complex equation stating how its possible, but i just finished the first and second seasons, and am on the third, on up through 'the brig'. after watching all these in rapid succession, the clues seem a little obvious.
lets be serious here. have any of the startling(?) revelations in this series been THAT startling? I have to again call attention to the dead man switch on Keamy's arm. after that episode, how many ridiculous theories flooded the internet? and it just turned out to be exactly what we thought it was in the first place, and what the show clearly pointed to.
all im saying is that this is prime-time TV, people. as much as we want it to be a sonic device used to repel smokey, it was just a bomb trigger. its NEVER going to be too complicated. as much as we want ji yeon and aaron to be adam and eve, itll probably be jack & kate. and as much as we want jacob to be God or Aaron or Santa Claus, it'll be the most obvious candidate, which I believe to be Locke.
I know that this isn't the 'Locke is so totally Jacob' thread, but i thought i could put it out there...
Maybe they are just two characters of the "New Others" that are going to have some speechroles or an important background to the others. But we are trying to catch "Smokey" because no one has a clue or an Idea in which timeline Season 5 is going to turn out. We have to expect to different timelines but without flashback or flashforwards, so we are going to see something totally different to all we know yet so and maybe in a week, when filming starts, we know more about it. Namaste!
Why can't Mira Furlan play the younger Rousseau... umm, first of all, the reason she asked them to kill Danielle off is that she doesn't want to do LOST anymore. But besides that... would you believe she's a 20 something ?
About what Ian said about the easiest answer being most likely, well... actually, since we know that we are going to get Danielle's story, but it won't be a flashback... wouldn't a time travel situation therefore be the most logical/easiest explanation ?
Just throwing this out there, but what about Eva Greene (Casino Royale) for Ilanna? Casino Royale is a big movie, but I hadn't really seen or heard of her before that. And she's pretty, but she's still got that intelligent edge to her, you know what I mean? Kind of like Rebecca Mader. I think she'd do good as Ilanna. But then again, I have no idea what Ilanna will be like so I could totally have the wrong image.
Even though I'd love to see Rousseau become a series regular, I hate the idea of her being portrayed by anyone other than Mira Furlan.
I can totally understand why has she asked to be written out, the past seasons degraded her character from one of the most mysterious and potentially dangerous non-survivor, to an almost helpless redshirt. Even her reunion with Alex was so toned down, you could feel it wasn't meant to be a significant plotline.
Nevertheless Mira left the show knowing she might have to come back, and I hope she will.
peter krause or jeremy sisto as caeser
lauren ambrose as ilana
Gary Busey or Dennis Hopper.
The characters sound like they would be people working with Ben off island. I mean, Sayid can't be doing all the work. I also like Gregs idea.
