Update: 19th Sept Here is a video that features a segment on Saïd Taghmaoui. The Lost segment is 5:30 into the video and it's all in French :)
You can see the video here.
Thanks to Lullabyboy for the following.
I`m a French journalist from the website "AlloCine" (the number one site about cinema and tv series in France) and this afternoon, I interviewed the French actor Saïd Taghmaoui who will play Caesar in "Lost".
I have a little information : he goes to Hawaii around the 15th of October. He will appear in about 5 or 6 episodes of the season five and he will be part of the regular cast in season 6. He hasn`t read any scripts yet so there`s not much he can say about his role. Just that he is one of the key which leads to the big series finale ! He won`t play in French but in English.
(A video of the interview will be available soon on our website)

How awesome! Still, it's so sad to read about the series finale already, it's so close now:(

yes sanna...when i made the post on my site and typed out that he will play a key to the series finale!!
i was kind of saddened and in shock that we are not to far away from that day...it is STILL a year and half away!!
no i'm serious odi
only time we can get real it's during montecarlos festival lol
so yes congrat french people for tonight and no i'm not french but frenglish now lol
don't talk about the endddd *hide eyes*
Sounds like he's going to rock! But yeah, I don't want time to go so fast :(
Big series finale = 06 & co. returning to the island. I'm guessing this is an off-island character who will assist in getting everyone back to the island and will then feature in season 6 as a result.
I agree... it's scary to start hearing about the finale ! I mean, yeah, it's 35+ episodes and about 20 months away, but still.
As for Caesar, I know we're hearing about lots of new characters, but I think they are mostly going to be minor supporting characters... sounds like only Ilanna (young Rousseau?) and Caesar will be significant additions... but who is he ? Hmmm...
TLA
I don't know about that. I think the S5 finale will be the O6 returning to the island. The series finale, as far as I'm concerned, is absolutely a mystery. I don't know what to expect to happen on the island in S6. Which is how it should be
Great info!
Yeah Thirty-Fiver, I misread 'big series finale' as 'big season finale'. I meant the 06 will return to the island at the end of this season of course :)
How can a frenchman pull off a convincing English accent?? That is the question you should be asking. No disrespect to the French but i haven't heard 1 to date.
It might be funny to see or it might be another braveheart/gibson moment in time. :/
I do remember him in sleeper cell and vantage point tho and is an accomplished actor so who knows.
Richard...
I think that the interviewer meant that "he will be speaking in the English language rather than speaking in the French language" - it doesn't mention his accent, so I'm assuming that his accent can still be French, just speaking English with one?..
From the stuff I've seen, Said Taghmaoui actually pulls off a pretty good English accent... he's French, but his accent is actually not unlike Sayid's/Naveen's.
My mistake. after rereading it i see now. I thought it was to play an englishman. I'm just stupid ;)
the final will be they park the lost island next to gillagans island(they take the island back in time, the 60's)and have a big tailgate beach party.
Intriguing, a new character that will go to the end of season 6. And i'm reading to this to mean that he'll be speaking in an English accent, english as in US English, not English as in UK English; perhaps it's a matter of interpretation at this point.
In the UK, people refer to each season as a "series." Could the same be true in France? If so, they are speaking of the end of Season 5 -- not the Season 6 SERIES finale (as we in the US use the term "series," meaning the entire body of work of the show).
I also think it's doubtful that the actor -- who hasn't even read a script -- already knows that he will be one of the keys leading up to the series finale??? I think he means Season 5 finale, i.e., return to the Island.
In France, we refer to a season as "une saison", so this means he'll be a big part of the season 6 finale. Well, that's what Allociné reports or that's what Saïd Taghmaoui was told anyway.
@ Richard: OT but yes, french people can pull off a convincing English or American accent. It's hard but they can. :)
@ marieakamary - thanks for the clarification. Re the line that "he won't play in French but in English," I assume that just means he will speak English, but with a French accent. In other words, he will know English, unlike Jin who could only speak Korean. That's my guess at least... IMO, it really doesn't make much sense to hire a French actor and then try to make him speak with an American or British accent.... although there have been some Australian and British actors (like Rachel Griffiths and Hugh Laurie) who do an amazing job of speaking "American." I have no doubt a French actor could do it also, but as you say it is harder.
Actually, in old casting calls, there have been wordings like "NICE recurring, with an eye to full cast member in season X", so it's very possible that he signed on knowing exactly what he told the reporter. Now, what he might know is... anything other than that, like you say.
Specifically, that was the sort of wording that was used back when the roles that became Daniel (called "Russell" at the time) and Charlotte were being cast:

@gregdean - yes, it makes sense that the actor is told that he will become a regular in Season 6 -- or will have the opportunity to do so. That assumes of course that he doesn't bomb out with viewers like Nikki and Paolo! And they made a BIG splash when they hired those 2, remember?
What doesn't ring true to me is that he would know he is "one of the key" that leads to the big series finale. Remember, Ben was originally only going to be around for about 3 episodes until they changed their minds when they saw how creepy good Michael Emerson was in the role.
At this point, I wouldn't take any of these new characters at face value, not until we see how they work onscreen. They made a big deal out of the casting of the stuntwoman chick from "Grindhouse" last season and she turned out to be a disappointingly minor character who had about 3 small scenes before she threw herself into the ocean...
