The role of Caesar has been cast and will be played by Saïd Taghmaoui. Here is his IMDB Profile. Also mentioned in EW's article is that will be seeing Frank Lapidus again :)
Hungry for an appetizer of Lost scoop as you impatiently starve for the start of season 5, which bows in early ’09? Then feast on this: Executive producers Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof tell EW they’ve just completed casting of two major new characters joining their saga next year. Last week, Michael Ausiello reported the addition of New Amsterdam alum Zuleikha Robinson. This week, we’d like to introduce you to Saïd Taghmaoui, a French thesp most recently seen in the Don Cheadle thriller Traitor. He’ll play Caesar, a mystery man who... um... well, that’s all we got. But the producers say the actor’s skill set fits the part. “He has an innate intelligence, intensity, and danger we really responded to,” says Lindelof, who declined to specify whether Caesar is good or bad, though he did tease that the character will be playing “an important part of the setup for the final act of the show in season 6." He also confirms that Robinson’s Ilana is associated with Caesar, and Cuse likens her to Heath Ledger’s Joker in The Dark Knight. “There was something very unsettling about the way the Joker kept telling different stories about his background -- something very similar to what we had planned for Ilana,” he says.
Look for a delayed introduction for the duo, beginning with an intriguing set-up followed by a gradual increase in screen time that won't detract from established faves, much like how season 4’s newbies, the Freighter Folk (Jeremy Davies, Rebecca Mader, Ken Leung, Jeff Fahey), were worked into the mix. (The producers say we’ll be seeing more of the FF next year, too — even Fahey, last seen escaping the Island with the Oceanic 6).
FYI: Zuleikha rhymes with You-Like-A, while Saïd sounds just like Lost’s own Sayid. In fact, Taghmaoui also played — get this — the Iraqi soldier who tortured Mark Wahlberg in Three Kings. Should theorists be looking for hidden meaning in this seemingly coincidental linkage? “No,” says Lindelof. “Just... no.” Oh, okay. But how about the theory that Smokey is... [Click] Hello? Hello?!

What!Is the Riddle season.
... Click! Hello Hello
Smokey is the door entry unit.
So much for Caesar being Widmore in Young...
and Ilana is starting to sound kind of annoying, to be honest.
Yay for more Frank, though.
hé he wrote french movie with mat kassovitz very hard i can remember it !! la haine ! never expected he could be in lost one day lol
“There was something very unsettling about the way the Joker kept telling different stories about his background -- something very similar to what we had planned for Ilana,”
If this isn't a young Rousseau, they're certainly going out of their way to make it sound like it is...
Smokey is what? huh?
Great news! I really liked Saïd Taghmaoui in La Haine (The Hate). He was also in Vantage Point with Matthew Fox.
Robert Ceaser - Alex's father - I called it first!!!
the "[click] hello? hello?" thing was supposed to be Damon hanging up the phone on the person asking the questions...I think?
Saïd is quite possible the "mysterious stranger" to appear in Tunisia as a spoiler mentioned few days ago.
And I'm still convinced Zuleikha has absolutely nothing to do with Rousseau.
Taghmaoui was a champion boxer before he became an actor. (IMDB)
I like him already!
oooo.. yeah, more man candy! *whistles*
New guy, whatever, but woohoo, Frank will be back! Viva Lapidus!
Adding...
Could he possibly be Montand?
This guy is a very good actor!
LOL @ the end of the article.
OK, don't know of this actor but more eye candy for the ladies, can't hurt!
OH, LOSTROCKS, seems you and I on the same page about the eyecandy LOL :)
Lapidus is back, Yippee...more Franks a good think, we needed him to bring them all back to the island, makes sense, yes?
Hmm, This guy being Alex's father...yes, yes OK...I can see the resemblance, a cross between him and Mira Furlong, works for me, Yes! But wait, a setup for the final of season 6 OMG, who is he? Has to be a younger version of someone we already know.
This is just maddening. LOL
Two thumbs up to seeing Lapidus again :) Now all I need is a spoiler about Henry Ian Cusick filming and I'll be very happy.
Deneph said... New guy, whatever, but woohoo, Frank will be back! Viva Lapidus!
===========
I couldn't have said it better. So, THIS.
As for Cusick, I imagine Ben will be going after Penny and, admittedly, he'll get dragged into that.
And, potentially, they may need Desmond to get back to the island (even though he's not an 815er)
T.L.A. Yes Yes Yes
Where is my beloved HIC...why no word on him? Please if there is a LOST GOD, someone get us news on HIC? How can this be, it's September and no Desmond?!?!?!??!????!
I'm a gonna cry....
LOSTINNJ, I doubt it means anything. We also haven't heard anything about Michael Emerson filming so far, and I really don't think he is going to miss out the first few episodes. The same likely is true for HIC.
Caesar is an interesting name, I doubt that will be his final name though. I think Darlton are trying to hint at something here with the fake name, maybe a character in a leadership role, one that has a lot of authority? Little on the fly theory here, maybe he is the orginal Other's leader or if that rumor is correct, he might be the leader of some acient Egyptian culture that lived on the island long before anybody else.
Hurley: Is that why you killed all these people too?
Ben: I didn't kill them.
Hurley: Well, if the Others didn't wipe out the DHARMA Intiative-
Ben: They did wipe them out, Hugo, but it wasn't my decision.
Hurley: Then whose was it?
Ben: Their leader's.
"...maybe a character in a leadership role, one that has a lot of authority? Little on the fly theory here, maybe he is the orginal Other's leader or if that rumor is correct" - Christopher
I like this line of thought. To add to the choice of name (or temporary choice), Caesar was also stabbed in the back by his followers. That's something I can definitely see happening to a previous leader of the Others.
Jake3988 - They may need Frank back on the island as well. There must be something to the fact that he was supposed to be the pilot on the flight. I'm rather hoping Frank is working for Des and Pen.
So as some have said, this guy is super-talented actor (or at least he was ten years ago in La Haine). Anyone with doubts (or just anyone, period) should go out and see that film. Don't know diddly squat about the Illana actress, but this guy's got the chops to be on Lost, no doubt about it.
Last year the news that Jeff Fahey getting in the cast literally blew my mind as "The Lawnmower Man" was one of all time my favourites.
This season it's the same again with Saïd Taghmaoui as he played in my other all time favourite "La Haine", as Lyly and lostlostlostlostlost pointed it out earlier. And lostlostlostlostlost is plain right; anyone who likes cinema of anyways MUST see that film, and malaica also gave the interseting bit; he played along with Matthew Fox in this year's highly anticipated but lukewarmly acclaimed action flick "Vantage Point", that was a "OK but not that good" type mediocre movie.
As seeing Fahey was given nothing worth to act last year wonder how things will turn next season. Hope D&C won't blow it like season 4, admit it people; the whole season except for "The Constant" was totally vain (including the season finale).
As french, i'm feel proud about Saïd Taghmaoui has been cast.
and he'll play in GI Joe next year ;)
I know he was just commenting on the different stories, but Cuse should never ever compare any of his characters to Heath's Joker. No one on Lost holds a candle to that performance.
admit it people; the whole season except for "The Constant" was totally vain (including the season finale).
I very much disagree. It certainly has problems, specifically where character writing is concerned, but on the whole it is a pretty good season, especially if you take the strike induced break into account.
I do third the recommendation of La Haine. Very powerful movie.
I know he was just commenting on the different stories, but Cuse should never ever compare any of his characters to Heath's Joker.
He probably did it because he was enthusiastic about TDK and Ledger, but it does sound like trying to jump on a bandwagon a little. ("Look, Ilana is cool! Like the Joker! You'll totally love her, she's not like Niki! Honestly!!")
Saïd Taghmaoui is a pretty good actor. I'm sure he'll make a cool and ruthless Caesar.
YAY for Lapidus! It really makes me happy :D
Dear The Big Wee Hag,
You make much sense about HIC and Michael Emerson, a good point.
This comment: admit it people; the whole season except for "The Constant" was totally vain (including the season finale).
No, I won't admit to this at all. I found one episode of Season 4 I could have done without (or a part of it, the other part was necessary), other than that taking into account the writers strike I think Darlton did an amazing job of getting Season 4 together and I loved the finale. OK, so some people found some production flaws...who cares? I don't...sit back and enjoy the experience that is LOST. It'll be a long time until we see another show like this IMHO.
that's 2 actors from lost in the g.i.joe movie now :)
I LOVED him in Vantage Point! I'm excited he'll be on lost. :D
