Those titles are pretty horrible.
5.04 - The Little Prince
oh i LOVE this one! another book, and a very symbolic one, just like Alice in wonderland and the wizard of oz.awesome!
'This place is death'?, 'Jughead'.. Wow.
The anticipation for 5.06 is already manifesting itself in sharp, painful pangs..
Very clever title though. Because it's an assumed moniker, the episode can easily chronicle the period of time for which Locke used it and live up to the episode's title. No prizes for guessing the ending will be either a major wtf moment or overwhelmingly emotional. Probably both.
Because You Left is on the island
The Lie is the Oceanic 6
Jughead ?
The Little Prince could have something to do with Aaron
This Place is Death at first seems like it would be the island but I think it will have to do with off island events.
Because You Left is still the best. The rest aren't too original. Jughead is just plain ridiculous. Reminds me of Eggtown.
Awesome - oh gawd we've got months to wait yet!
lol First of all, don't talk about Harry Potter...Still haven't read the last two. :(
Secondly, my thoughts:
1) Because You Left: Rather obvious. The Oceanic 6 left and they're going to realize they need to return. I bet someone says this as a quote in the episode.
2) The Lie: Most likely something about the Oceanic 6's lie and what they do next.
3) Jughead: That's a tough one...Doesn't jughead have some army connotations? I'm pretty sure there's some movie called Jughead and it's about the army. Either way, maybe we finally get that Desmond flashback? Or maybe this kind of relates to time-transported consciousness, since it all happens in their head, sort of.
4) The Little Prince: First of all, great book. Second of all, this really seems to be something about Aaron. I mean, he sure looks enough like the little prince in that trailer. I hope he doesn't get owned by a snake though hehe.
5) This Place is Death: Hmm...No idea. Maybe something about the Island in general.
6) The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham: Obviously the backstory behind what killed Locke. We should go back and read the obituary if we want episode details. Didn't it say he died on some construction site or something?
But anyway, I'm glad we finally got these. And I do not think they're horrible. They seem creative and thought-provoking to me.
Jughead ?
According to my crusty, er, trusty dictionary that's both a mule and an idiot.
Seems that it is indeed an episode about Desmond, then. ;)
@fajamoomoo: the army movie you are looking for is Jarhead.
Episode 5*06 is the one directed by Jack Bender and perhaps writed by Team Darlton. It sounds like a very very nice episode.
Does anyone know what a jughead is? When I google it, a pretty lame character from Archie comics pops up.
I'm so looking forward to The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham. I was really expecting Locke's death to be shown in the finale, though. Maybe we don't see him die just yet...
Because You Left - There's been enough speculation on this one already. Refers to the Oceanic 6.
The Lie - Again, probably Oceanic 6.
Jughead - I agree with those above who suggested Desmond. I wonder if on-island we might get a little Daniel too.
The Little Prince - Aaron with very little doubt. Or, if the producers don't want to give Aaron a centric episode, Kate (with reference to Aaron).
The Place Is Death - Jin perhaps? Or rather, the survivors still on the island discovering his fate.
The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham - Locke. I think 'death' is just to throw us off and we'll only see him getting off the island and see his death in a later episode. Which means we'll be seeing his encounters with the Oceanic 6 and maybe Desmond over the next few episodes.
Just my 2c.
I like "The life and death of Jeremy Bentham" it sounds great and it has to be one of the most obvious titles yet.
@Thirty-Fiver:
Does anyone know what a jughead is? When I google it, a pretty lame character from Archie comics pops up.
According to the dictionary I consulted, it can refer to 1. a mule, 2. a stubborn, wild horse, or 3. an idiot.
@The Big Wee Hag
The Mule is connected to the Donkey , right?
And we know a special Donkey....
Thanks Big Wee,
I had read your OP, too. It just went out the other ear, I guess. Or maybe I didn't like the answer, lol. Jackass sounds better than Jughead. But if they went with that a bunch of crazy white boys would plop themselves in front of the TV!! ;)
Re: "Jughead"
According to Wikipedia there is a Jughead series of comics called Jughead's Time Police.
"Upon receiving a special beanie from an unknown benefactor, Jughead gains the ability to travel to the past and future at will..."
The Mule is connected to the Donkey , right?
And we know a special Donkey....
Could be Ben, sure. Filming-wise, though, it should fit Desmond a little better. (And while they are both stubborn, I'd hesitate to call Ben an idiot. Don't get this the wrong way, I love Des, but...)
Thirty-Fiver: yeah, it's a bit of an unfortunate title, although I guess it's more about mulishness than jack___ery. ;)
And I believe roundabritt wins this one!
" Jughead " sounds like something Sawyer would say.
The Life and Times of Jeremy Bentham aka enslaved by space and time in a Panopticon.
The Little Prince ( they have been saving this one for a looong time ):)
Because you left-Oceanic Six
The Lie-Oceanic Six
Jughead- Oceanic six
The Litlle prince- oceanic six
This place is death- on island events
Life and death of bentham...on island events mostly, but of course his death off island is gonna be there too
The Big Wee Hag said...

Oh, I know. Just trying to make this morning a little more fun. ;)
And thank you, roundabritt.
The Little Prince- I agree- it has something to do with Aaron.
Jughead- sounds a bit ridiculous and out of place, no offense to anyone..
The misfit actually posted these a month ago!
Misfit Spoilers
How did he get them a month before anyone else?
Jughead deffinatly seems to be a refrence to Jughead's Time Police comic after reading up on it, as roundabritt has already said.

How did he get them a month before anyone else?
Maybe his mole got lucky for once? Although now, I want "Dial M for Maniac" to be true as well.
There's a very good reason for why Misfit now has the first six titles correct ;)
Were these just taken from the Misfit's site I wonder?
Dark, can you check if these are accurate?
There's a very good reason for why Misfit now has the first six titles correct ;)
If he changed them around, definitely, but he first posted that post in September.
Although I do admit that part of me just wants Misfit to be one of the writers. ;)
Hmmm ;)
Hm, Webbsta, that would be hysterical.
Episode 5.04 - The Little Prince: I think is Desmond and Penny's Baby !
I'm pretty sure that the misfit changed them after we released them. My contact at ABC says they have only issued the titles for the first 6.
Hmmm ;)
And there goes TLA, destroying all my dreams. :D Fast little LOSTIGATOR.
For what it's worth, and despite that link...I remain ThE mIsFiT's biggest fan :)
Great T.L.A.
Thanks for the confirming that Misfit just say crap.
Aw, don't bash the Misfit. He is such a great SpOIlerhounD.
Wow, we have titles already! Great stuff! :D
About 'Jughead'. I think Roundabritt's comments are the ones that get closer to Lost, and because of the description, I suppose it's going to be about Daniel and Desmond (and maybe we'll see Mrs. Hawking in there). Other definitions for jughead are:
- A person who acts below normal intelligence.
- One of the best, if not THE best character, of the Archie comic series. Jughead Jones has an insatiable appetite, and refuses to get a girlfriend, although he has on occasion fallen for female companions. Has the ability to walk with his eyes closed, and actually causes intense distress to do otherwise. Best friends with Archie Andrews.
- Someone who is late in getting or hard to wake up. someone who likes to lounge around for most of the day with no serious intention of doing much else.

Interesting! :O
nice names of episodes:)) i looking forward on this.
Because You Left: on-island and O6; picks up where the finale left off and shows what happened to ALL of them because the O6 left.
The Lie: definitely about the stupid lie that the O6 told; hopefully we see it exposed
Jughead: as a fan of Archie comics, the Jughead character was always underestimated; he was always more capable than he was given credit for
The Little Prince: yes, a wonderful book and it has to be an Aaron/Kate story
This Place is Death: not really sure but I am guessing its NOT the island
L/D of JB: we know what this is
Glad to be a part of today's lostigating! Thanks to all for the support of my refusal to do any actual "work" in my office today...this is much more fun.
Re: This Place is Death
Now, this is probably a stretch but could this be reference to Mati? Last month, in the first round of Desmond spoilers, someone stated that mati means dead/death in Indonesian as well as Malay (I don't believe either are major languages of the 171 or so spoken in the Philippines).
My guess is the title has more to do with the Island/Egyptian ties...
I wonder will 5.3 be a hugo ep, refering to -Forsythe Pendleton "Jughead" Jones III - :)
The Little Prince title is great and could be Aaron related, but like Franzo I think it's Desmond's centric.
If The Misfit is right about these 6 I hope he's right about Dial M for Maniac (Sun centric) as well :DD
Thanks a lot Dark! These site has been a spoiler feast these days :)
Mmm, is ths for real? Sounds totally fake. And there's still that thing about repeating words in 2 episodes close to each other, kinda like "Home" in 4x10 and 4x12... Let's see how this comes out.
Wow they really suck!!
"Speculate away in the comments to what you think each episode resolves around and could mean. Episode 5.06 look like being related to Locke's suicide."
Locke committed suicide did he? I thought he died of unknown causes.
Mmm, is ths for real?
Yep, 100% ABC for real.
roundabritt, re: This Place Is Death - Episode 5 is a little late to be the one about the spoilers you mention. One of the characters turning up there was in a casting call for Episode 3, so I'm guessing it's that one.
Wow, Thanks Dark. But I'm sorry, I still think they suck. I don't know what TPTB were thinking. I hope the content of the episodes is far better than the titles, though.
Daniel did not protect his head when he was experimenting with Eloise, therefore he have a bad memory which makes him look kind of stupid or like and idiot and from the promo it seems like he is in the cave with the frozen donkey (mule) wheel - Jughead.
I bet Jughead is about Daniel.
@the big wee hag: Thought so...knew it was a stretch!
Le Petit Prince seems to be a small wealth of potential allusions.
Le Petit Prince seems to be a small wealth of potential allusions.
Agreed, it's basically endless. If it is a person it's possibly Aaron though. (Too bad Saïd Taghmaoui doesn't seem to show up earlier than Episode 5 or 6, or I would have guessed it's Caesar. ;))
As for it being Des & Penny's kid, just a hunch, but I bet that's going to be a girl.
Re the big we hag: As for it being Des & Penny's kid, just a hunch, but I bet that's going to be a girl.
roundabritt wacked-out theory #842: A daughter, named Charlotte, for the three influential Chucks in their lives; Dickens, Widmore and Hieronymus Pace...
if you read the wikipedia article on the little prince, it seems to have a lot of connections to ben or locke.... moreso than it has to aaron.
and 'because you left' isn't just gonna be o6. it's.... because you left, THIS is what happened... they'll show island stuff.
roundabritt wacked-out theory #842: A daughter, named Charlotte, for the three influential Chucks in their lives; Dickens, Widmore and Hieronymus Pace...
Heh. I feel ambiguous about that for all kinds of reasons (not least because it would render Charlotte's insistence that she was born on the island - as opposed to an island - pretty useless), but the name thing would be good.
PLEASE, I want find a video on the set, with Jeremy Davies and Evangeline Lilly with an Umbrella, she said "Jeremy is the best actor on lost "...I lost this video!
A lot of you are assuming that each episode is character centric and only takes place either on or off the island. TPTB, the actors, and recent spoilers all confirm that this is not the case. Centrics are no longer as clear-cut, and we're supposed to have scenes both on and off island in the same episode.
@Ryan Totally agree with the above. The title may, of course, refer to a single scene/character but every episode will feature both... timelines.
In fact, I was thinking that 5x06 could be both Locke on island, and Bentham off Island... but since it says life and death OF JB, one could assume it will show what Locke did as Bentham still alive, and how he died. Let's wait and see.
RE: Charlotte's Birthplace...
Couple of conflicting reports here - According to the info Ben had (presumably from Michael Dawson) Charlotte was born 1979 in Essex, England.
But then she later implies that she didn't know where she was born (suggesting perhaps the island)
If Desmond and Penny do have a baby Charlotte, then they must reside by the alias's David and Janette Lewis back in 1979. If Ben ever finds out that Charlotte is their daughter, then Ben already has the info of their alias's and whereabouts, and could track down Penny -
But all this seems to complicated, so it probably won't be that!
Thanks Dark!
But one thing struck me in your synopsis overhead..."Locke's SUICIDE"?????
Did I miss a spoiler or something? How do you know it's a suicide as opposed to someone killing/ murdering him? (Other than the newspaper obit)
Just from the obit.
"Episode 5.04 - The Little Prince"
I was thinking this one could be about BEN and NOT about AARON!
i think the episode titled, this place is death should be the back story for danielle like we've all been waiting for. she said how when she first arrived on the island her crew was dying from the sickness, then she successfully gave birth to a child and it was taken and she went crazy. if i were her i would think this place was death too
Just to add to Dark's comment: COFFEEDESIGN, in 4x13/14, in Sayid's flashforward, Sayid told Hurley that "they say it was suicide". Remember that? Just before we found out Hurley was playing chess with Mr. Eko.
MY SPECULATION:
Episode 5.01 - Because You Left: On Island. The beginning of the "bad things" that happened after the Oceanic 6 left.
Episode 5.02 - The Lie: Off Island about the O6 lie coming apart, possibly. Or maybe Sun explains to Widmore what parts were true and which were a lie.
Episode 5.03 - Jughead: Off Island. It seems like an obvious reference to Jughead, from the Archie comics. The character I'd compare to Jughead would probably be Hurley. So maybe this one is primarily about Hurley? Wasn't this the episode we heard Ana Lucia was going to show up, too?
Episode 5.04 - The Little Prince: On Island. I just looked at the wikipedia article about the book "The Little Prince" and one thing that really stuck out was that the narrator was asked to draw a picture of a sheep, but didn't know what i sheep looks like. To solve this problem, the narrator draws a box and says that a sheep is inside. could we be getting a glimpse at the "magic box" in this episode?
Episode 5.05 - This Place is Death: Off Island. Michael and Jack both attempted suicide after leaving the Island. Maybe it's saying that everywhere BUT the island is death. However, i think it could also have something to do with Rousseau.
Episode 5.06 - The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham: On Island. I'm thinking that it could possibly be a flashforward of Locke's time off the Island. The producers said they were steering away from Flashbacks and flashforwards, but that doesn't mean that there aren't going to be anymore flashes. it just means there's less of them.
Your forgetting about the recent spoilers ( Here: http://spoilerslost.blogspot.com/2008/10/more-jin-news-and-hurley-in-jail.html ) saying that we as viewers, as well as the people left on the island, would find out Jin's fate in Episode 4, which would be "The Little Prince" , so I'm going with Episode being focussed on-island, as opposed to off.
Thanks Dark.
Spencer, Thanks for the memory-refresh. I totally blanked on that. In my defense, I attribute this to the brain-cell loss incurred by dharmawantsyou.com.
;)
Some random speculations.
Episode 5.02 - The Lie. Something about the fake airplane wreckage.
Episode 5.04 - The Little Prince. One of the most famous quotes from the book is about the drawing of a snake after eating an elephant, whle everybody thinks to be a drawing of a hat. A hint to look beyond the apparent and the obvious. A snake is also the one who kills the little prince at the end of the book, allowing him to leave Earth and return to his home planet. Ms Hawking's symbol was a snake (an ourobouros).
Episode 5.05 - This Place is Death. Purgatory theories revisited? a limbo between life and the afterlife?
Episode 5.06 - The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham. Here we get to know what death really means in the Lost universe.
I googled "This place is death," and got a lot of results from a lot of different sources, but this one interested me the most: in the balcony scene of Romeo and Juliet, Juliet says: "This place is death, considering who thou art,/ If any of my kinsmen find thee here." I zeroed in on this since a) we have a character named Juliet on the show, and b) we have a few couples on the show (most notably Jin and Sun and Desmond and Penny) who have a lot of troubles because of angry 'kinsmen' (or more specifically, fathers).
OOPPSSS!! I just posted a spoiler of the Little Prince book!!
Don't ban me please!!
Does anyone know the timeline about which of these episodes will land in the Feburary sweeps?
Because You Left - Possibly about Jack leaving the Island.
The Lie - The Oceanic 6 lying about the Island.
Jughead - this title is kinda...Ugghh...
The Little Prince - Either about Aaron or Walt, maybe.
This Place is Death - Probably about the "bad things" that happened on the Island when the Oceanic 6 left.
The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham - Obviously about Locke.
I'm seriouly hopeing that The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham will be a sweeps episode--and written by Damon and Carlton. IMO that one sounds the most promising!
From Wikipedia: Jughead, a 19th century slang term meaning a mule.
I think it might be about Richard
Ana Paula said: "I was thinking this one (The little Prince) could be about BEN and NOT about AARON!"
The teller of The little prince story is a pilot (like Saint-Exupéry himself, the autor), who makes an emergency land on the desert where he meets the little prince, and our own little prince could be Caesar (played by Saïd Taghmaoui)...
That could be it :)
Any reason we're hardly considering Walt as a possible Petit Prince? I know he has not appeared on any of the set reports...
Excited about the Jeremy Bentham episode!
I hope that in The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham will show Locke talking to Walt.
I would love to see them reunite!
i dont think The Little Prince is ganna be about Aaron. I think it might be about Ben or maybe even Walt.
I LOVE WALT AND JOHN LOCKE
A Locke and Walt scene would be so awesome :) Juxtaposed with that backgammon scene, with all that's happened in the meantime.
Wow! First the trailer and now the episode titles! I've got a feeling that episode 5.04. will be the best out of the 6 first episodes!
I think that "This Place is Death" may refer to those on the homefront. Maybe those like Jack, who understand the importance of returning to the island, and the terrible landscape that has been created by his re-arrival to the real world.
Perhaps the island is "life" and the mainland is a metaphor for "death". People long for this island, and I can't help but think that it's properties draw people's reason towards it. Not only is it a certain person's fate to be a part of the island community, but perhaps fate also has a funny way of creating a new perspective.
If "Because You Left" is a quote from the first episode, I would suggest that it's a statement from Ben to Jack. I'm sure it'll conjure up an emotional, "I-told-you-so" moment. Don't forget the mobisode that featured Ben telling Jack that if he left the island and decided he want to come back he may not have the chance.
Sorry for being a little off topic, but I was just on lostpedia and tried to look up "caesar" and it was "blocked". I've never seen that before. Anyone know why?
what is a sweeps episode?
Evan, A sweeps episode refers to "Sweeps Week" which is a period of time that a company named Nielsen has home viewers record in diaries what they watched for the week. Usually this week has a television show airing their best episode of the season in hopes of getting a higher viewership on the Nielsen Ratings.
Thinking outside the box...(I use the word centric not knowing if that is quite the proper layout this year but you get my drift):
Because You Left--Instead of O6 centric, perhaps Ben centric or Jeremy Bentham centric for all we know.
The Lie--Dharma Initiative centric. I really think that DI is going to play a significant role this season ie: the new Dharma stations, the flashes in the promo, DWY, etc.
Jughead--There are a lot of casting calls for this epi. Might be a nickname for "Nigel: British, in his late teens. Smart and mature for his age, if a little rough around the edges" or "JANITOR: Male, late 40s or 50s, must have a British working class accent. Nosy, opinionated, resident rumor monger of a school. Knows everyone's business and can't keep a secret to save his life" or any number of characters set to appear in this epi that might have an impact on any of the regular cast
The Little Prince: Aaron appears way too obvious. I think it has to do with another seemingly insignificant character. Perhaps "DR. EVELYN ARIZA: 30s-40s, any ethnicity. Chief of staff at a hospital. She's attractive with a great bed-side manner but tough and carries her authority well. Not afraid to make difficult decisions." Also, half of the casting calls for this epi are for characters that speak French but appear in Tunisia
This Place is Death: I'm guessing Hurley centric revolving around his times in and out of mental hospitals
The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham: Not even going to speculate on this one bc once again, it appears too obvious and we don't have enough info yet if Jeremy Bentham even had a life b4 death other than talking to the O6 and Walt
isn't Jughead the episode where Locke and Richard look for the rock that tells them what year it is. This would be related to time travel, no?
Jughead--There are a lot of casting calls for this epi. Might be a nickname for "Nigel: British, in his late teens. Smart and mature for his age, if a little rough around the edges"
I'd still bet money that's Desmond's teenage version.
isn't Jughead the episode where Locke and Richard look for the rock that tells them what year it is. This would be related to time travel, no?
That's either Episode 3 or Episode 2.
can't wait!
"This Place is Death" is an anagram for a sentiment LOSTies might feel often...
THIS PLACE IS DEATH = SEALED HATCH? I SPIT!
'Jughead' made me think about those people who carry baskets or vases on their head (I'm not sure what country). With how wacky the title 'Jughead' is, I speculate that perhaps it could be about the crew of the Black Rock...I mean, that sounds kinda piratey, right?
(Did Darlton say that we'd learn more about the Black Rock this coming season or in the final season?)
'Because You Left' sounds to me like Ben guilting up Jack, per the Season 4 Finale.
...for some reason, I feel like 'The Lie' will have to do with Richard.
'The Little Prince' will have to do with good ol' Ben - because of the whole Tunisia thing (from lost4evr's comment)-remember, Ben said he had been to Tunisia before.
1 - Because You Left - No Centric
2 - The Lie - Jack
3 - Jughead - Daniel
4 - The Little Prince - Saywer
5 - This Place Is Death - Sayid
6 - The Life And Death Of Jeremy Bentham - Locke
Here are the other episodes circling around the internet...
7 - Time After time - Daniel!!
8 - In The Minds Eye - Rose & Bernard
9 - If You Go Into The Woods Today - Jacob
10 - Time Before Time - Richard Alpert
11 - Catch Me At Dawn - Danielle Rousseau
12 - The Rules - Widmore & Penny
13 - Reos - Ceaser
14 - Fly Away - Ben & Desmond
15 - Dial M For Maniac - Sun
16 - All For You - Jin
17 - Exodus part 3 - MULTI CENTRIC
one site had all these episode titles months ago, now DarkUFO confirms the first 6 were right... so its lookin good that these are the actual episode titles.
Mind you, I read the Archie comics quite a few years ago, but I'm almost positive that the "unknown benefactor" that gave Jughead his time travel beanie was himself.
steelCrimsin:
one site had all these episode titles months ago, now DarkUFO confirms the first 6 were right... so its lookin good that these are the actual episode titles.
If you read through the comments above, we've already discussed that the site you mention posted different titles in September, they just changed them around when Dark posted the new spoiler info. Really, as much as I would love "Dial M for Maniac" to be an actual episode title, Misfit's blog is just satire.
Sorry Steel, but 7-17 are fake. The misfit edited his first 6 to match my list when we released them :)
OMG!There are so many different possibilities. I think the Place is death has something to do with Jin / Sun! Because of the whole romeo and juliet thing. Maybe Jin will "appear" to Sun. Hmmm
Someone on another board I frequent mentioned they read a report by someone who took the set tour a few weeks back - it described the army camp we've already heard about, and this oil rig derrick with the bomb suspended under it - and apparently the bomb had printed "jughead" on it. So, if that one's actually true, we should have an explanation for the name of Episode 3.
DARK, could u explain or anyone else explain about donkey whell
i still dont get why ben needed to turn it .. he killed keamy,(no threat) the boat was blown up (No Threat0 So why didnt ben just stay or just run off through the jungle and just stay..
i think that the bad things that happen r because ben turned the DW and moved the island thats what Fu**ed everything up..
oh COME ON...the titles were ALWAYS serial and somewhat on the goofy side..."Whatever the CASE May Be"? and it involved opening up a CASE..ooOOooooh! THAT'S so DEEEEEP...!
LOST..."In Translation" OHhohoho! That's not a jokey title at ALLL!!! EVERY title should be take GRAVELY on this show. uh-huh.
oh yeah..."Little Prince" could very well be the Ben-as-a-kid flashback...I mean, how else does he get his ego??
Something to consider... Naomi's armband had a love note from "R.G.", right ?
R.G. sounds a little like Archie, as in Archie & Jughead... so, maybe it's a running joke between "R.G" and their friend, nicknamed Jughead ?
jughead? Seriously?
i dunno why but episode six seems to be locke centric
"Jughead" is a reference to:
Jughead's Time Police was a series that began in 1990 featuring Jughead as a hero of the 29th century and a member of the Time Police, an organization that ensures history to remain the same for the future's sake. In this series, the beanie gives Jughead the ability to time travel by thinking. With his supervisor, Marshal January McAndrews, Jughead repairs disturbances in the past.
Just thought I could put it out there, so we don't get confused anymore ;)
108th Comment! :P
assuming that Locke did commit suicide. it could have been a clever way to cover up a murder
The offseason is clearly making some of us twitchy.
