When the rumor started earlier this month that Evangeline Lilly might be leaving Lost, many of you fans were relieved to hear from Evie herself that she's not going AWOL.
"I am very happy on Lost and have no reason to look anywhere else for a home," she told us.
But now, inside sources spill that a major character death is coming—and that the person who is leaving the show was not the first to know.
So, could it be Evie? If not, who is it?
Here's what I can tell you about this death:
* A current series regular is getting killed before the end of season five.
* The character who will die is someone who is much-loved by many of you fans.
* This is a real leaving-the-show death, à la Shannon or Charlie, not a quick-fix time-travel death like Jeremy Bentham/John Locke.
* The character getting killed off is not, I repeat, not Evie's character Kate Austen.
And a source close to the show tells me that the person who's being killed off just learned of their character's fate late last week, and the news hit hard. "Unfortunately, [he or she] found out after the script treatments were sent out to some of the crew on the set," says my source. "So it wasn't the best timing."
As for the timing of when this death will happen onscreen, I can only tell you that while the character's end is still a ways out, it will go down this season.
Who will it be?
I certainly cannot tell, and surely you do not want to know, because in usual kickass Lost fashion, you know that how it plays out will be surprising and awesome and jaw-dropping. You can, of course, post your guesses in the comments.

My guess is Sayid. He's sort of become unimportant, in my opinion. Could be Juliet too.
I'm thinkin' Sayid. I don't see where he fits in at the conclusion of the series, and he has no ties to any of the other major characters.
If its Hurley, I'll lead a revolt in the streets, complete with objects set aflame and a nation at panic.
I hope it's not Sayid or Juliet. I'm thinking Miles or Daniel.

I don't see the point in killing off people now. It's pointless when we're going into the end run. And I sure hope it's not Juliet. I won't say I'll stop watching but it will certainly make me very bitter towards the show.

If we are to believe that the character to be killed is "much-loved," in my opinion only two characters from that poll fit that bill, Sawyer and Daniel. I'm banking on it being Sawyer.
what about -- dare i say -- Hurley? He was the 1st person to pop into my head, and it would create much more emotional turmoil in the show (especially for Sawyer), and would be a true tear-jerker. And I don't think people would stop watching because of it. That would be a real death.
Much loved character could be Ben also.

As much as Kate lovers hate to admit it, she would be the perfect candidate: Huge star, would make Season 6 super-tense, and due to her story being able to be easily wrapped up within Season 5, she's essentially dead weight.
Would have LOVED to not have confirmation that it wasn't Kate.

I hope it's not Juliet. Lost has already killed off many of the females and we only have 3 left this season, not including Claire coming back next. So it wouldn't make sense to kill another female.
I think it's a male and the ones who came to my mind were Sayid, Miles, and Daniel. I can't see Sawyer or Hurley dying until sometime in Season 6, but it would be very shocking if either one would get killed off.

Totally Juliet. Seems rather obvious to me. The last epi set the stage. I'm sure she'll go down heroically, and I can't say I'm hugely disappointed. This 5 year Sawyer/Kate fan is ready.
IMO, Juliet still needs to atone for her actions as an Other. I'm sure they'll give her an opportunity to do so.
I know the poll didn't have Sayid in it, but I think the poll is talking about ANOTHER death, happening BEFORE this major death. So I think it will be Miles for the non-major death, and Sayid for the major one. Two season-regulars' deaths this season.
It can not be Jack, Sawyer, Kate, Juliet, Miles, Jin, Hurley, Sayeed or Daniel UNLESS they manage to get out of 1977 and back to 2007. All of the people stuck in 1977 travel to the island in the future. So, you can not kill them in 1977 because that changes the future. However, Locke, Ben, Sun, Desmond, Penny and Frank are all in the present, so their deaths will not change the past. Thus, in my humble opinion, it has to be Ben or Sun or Desmond. I don't include Locke because his "living" status is currently unknown. If the 1977 crew make it back to the present by the end of the season, all bets are off!

You hear "much-loved" and your mind has to immediately go to Hurley or Sawyer in terms of fan faves. If the poll this site has posted is to be believed...it may very well be Sawyer. His character arc has played out really...he has found redemption of sorts in the life he has led for three years...and since Josh Holloway is about to become a father for the first time, the timing would indeed suck.
Juliet may be well-liked, but much-loved? Still if they are thinking of making season 6 into a Who will Kate pick in the final hours of the show...well there you go. Why would we need Juliet need to stay though...baby stuff?
If the poll is just a poll, Hurley could be killed off simply because he might not be needed in the "war" to come. He has the whole numbers mythology...so that might be something that saves him. Plus killing the funny guy seems a bit redundant after killing off Charlie.
I can't see them killing off Sayid simply because he is the go-to guy to fix things and he knows about computers and he can shoot a gun and knows about explosives and on and on...still his character arc might be coming to a conclusion as well in the next few episodes.
Desmond is a fan fave and so is Ben but they are REALLY tied into the mythology of the show. Still they could kill off Ben and it would be the Losties against Widmore maybe...hard to believe Ben dying would be much of a tear-jerker though.

DRM, that doesn't make sense. If you were time traveled to 1977 from 2007, dying in 1977 wouldn't prevent you from existing at all points after 2007, it would just mean that your normally-aging, never-time-traveled-before self winds up dying in 1977, so it's non-paradoxical. You'd have to inadvertently trigger a series of events that wipes out the you that was in 1977 originally in terms of the linear timeline of one's existence, or somehow prevent your own birth if you hadn't been born yet.
Example: I'm 35 in 2007. I somehow travel back in time to 1977. Unless my then 5 year old self gets bumped off, I can be killed as a 35 year old in 1977, while my 5 year old self lives a normal life providing nothing that happens as consequence of my 35 year old self being in 1977 results in my 5 year old self getting killed at that point or thereafter.
The point where it *does* get tricky is if I do something that results in younger me getting wiped out before 2007, at which point my having traveled back in time should be rendered null, because then I never lived until 2007, right? Not exactly - what happens is there's a paradox, because if my younger self is killed off by consequences of my present/future self having traveled into the past, I can't have traveled into the past and triggered the event the killed me off to begin with. Whether or not this works is dependent upon how time travel works - either things are sort of linear but twisty, in which case any significant change to a time line can't happen after all, or the possibilities fork off into parallel realities, in which case things can go in any direction but don't necessarily affect the same timeline because things branch off.

I remember that Darlton clip that flashforwarded to after (or during) S6 and Damon had an eye patch cos he was attacked by fans for killing off a bleeped out name.
If it is Sawyer, well, you can't change the future...
it'll be daniel. he'll have fulfilled his "time travel info guy" role, and once he realizes he can't save charlotte his motivation will be nil. perfect time for a spectacularly self-sacrificing death, that likely lays in the heart of the incident, and the losties last time traveling trip.
It could very well be Daniel because after his Ginger love died he is all messed up and has nothing to live for. He could try some sort of time travel stunt and cause the incident maybe in the process kills himself...just a thought. Also if they kill Juliet I will Sh*t a brick.

*F*, you know it's Sawyer. His story is shepherding his flock in the 70s; saving them. He even saved the O6 by jumping off the helicopter last year, which did no good since they brought their sorry a$$es right back. He's the exact opposite of his S1 character, which means his story's over.
And worst of all, he's got the finale flashback to childhood (blonde kid with painful past).
Except, oh! -- maybe they are making him Jacob. Like if he dies by jumping into some wormhole caused by the Swan Incident thing (you know, to save Freckles again), he might get sucked back into the distant past and have to communicate by "special" people.
And his message? "Help me... to throw Kate into the volcanooooooo"
Oh, and if Sawyer dies, I'm rooting for the bad guy. I don't care if Sawyer goes out heroically or becomes Jacob or gets a statue with his face carved into it -- I pretty much watch the show for Sawyer (he keeps it real), and wanted the last scene to be him sailing off the island flipping it the bird. With Hurley, Jin, and Sayid on board. (Jack, too, but he has to swim alongside boat.)

In my perspective though, Sawyer has kind of taken the helm as the leader now, so he can't/shouldn't be killed off. But still, would be a nice twist. Jin would be my second choice, but honestly, it would really suck. He's a great character, and definitely loved by the fans =(

Well it would make sense for it to happen around the episode 'Dead is Dead' (although not necessarily).
Miles is in a photo for The Variable (which is after Dead is Dead) and The Variable is supposed to be some sequel to the Constant, so presumably Daniel will be in it.
Plus we haven't really had any back story for Miles yet so would seem too soon to kill him off.
This probably rules out Miles and Daniel.
Jin has already 'died' once so they probably wouldn't do it again.

I don't think they would kill off Ben, because of the rivalry against Widmore, and because there is so much more we need to know about him/his motives etc that it would seem stupid to kill him off so soon. We are getting his childhood story soon but I think even after this, there will be much more to learn about him.

This means Sawyer is probably going to die. If there is some kind of childhood story to tell then after that we will know everything about him, unlike Miles, Daniel and Ben who still have lots of potential secrets. Also his character development has virtually finished, he has come from almost bad guy to complete good guy, whereas most other characters still have problems to sort out.
Daniel is very much loved, and I have a feeling that the time travel is over. So it'd make sense. He's served his purpose.
I'm tired of them killing off female characters, but Juliet is another good candidate too. Especially since Sawyer and Juliet are now in a relationship, it only makes sense. All relationships on Lost that are 'real' ALL have ended in disaster. (Which, I guess, gives creedance to Sawyer being possible, but unlikely I'd think)
Miles is funny, but not really 'loved'. Is pretty pointless at this point too.
Ben dies, I'm leaving the show and never watching again. Dead serious [Call it a pun if you want]. Michael Emerson makes this show what it is. But I remain pretty firm that he's ok :) He's pretty integral to the whole Widmore saga and if that's resolved this season what the heck will next season be about? :)

Daniel is popular with quite a few people but I don't think he's been on the show long enough to earn beloved status...so that leaves the incredibly popular Sawyer, and the "we love to hate him" Ben. Ben is the chief villain of the show and is being set up for a huge confrontation with Widmore, so that leaves Sawyer...which sucks, because he's become a far more interesting character than dumbass Jack. (but also makes sense since his character has found some happiness and closure...). And if they wanted to kill off an original Lostie, why not Sayid? His storyline is played out...
but my second guess IS Daniel, though I don't think he's that beloved by the general audience...it would make sense for him to die while correcting the time anomaly.

I have never listened when the star or the show's PR machine denies they will die. I think kate is lying. She's the one, and that's where the rumors come from. Just cause she say's no doesn't mean anything. They all signed a non-disclosure contract-meaning that if they spoil any future shows they can get sued for alot of $. So, I still think it's kate. And glad to see her go.

As for me, a die-hard Lostian, I love all the characters, all of their different dimensions, all that has been revealed in this fantastic show. But, Lost plays for keeps, and this isn't like any other show on television: watchers beware. There will be much sorrow and excitement and more sorrow before this show is over. How could it not be otherwise? It pains me to see any of the characters I cared about die, but, Lost is more like life than anything else, and life is painful. Just, bring it on!
