Keep in mind that the arrow station door seen in "the Other 48 hours" also had quarantine written on the door.

Why do you say that, I myself along with a lot of Lost fans have never thought the sickness real. This was pretty much confirmed by Desmond and Kelvin and the ripped suit.
I agree, I never thought the sickness was real ever since the first Desmond flashback. I don't know what Danielle meant when she kept talking about the sickness. She is kind of crazy, I guess we'll have to wait for her flashback to find out!
Dharma Initiative Hanso Group... interesting. Why do they need to specify that it's Hanso's group, unless there is a part of the Dharma Initiative NOT associated with him, right? Could the Others be Dharma members who were not associated with Hanso?
Well I say that because why don't they confirm it on the show? not on the back of a puzzle. Of course it's obvious there may not be a sickness but what if there realy is? what if they are tricking us to believe there isn't and then in a flashback with Danielle they willshow that there was? maybe the mean there is none but there was at one point.
Did most of us guess that there was no sickness about a season ago? I know I did, so that isn't that much of a surprise. So what was Desmond shooting into himself daily hmm?

Real or phony, it's not the same sickness as pushed onto unknowing visitors in TLE.
I really wish TLE would never have happened. It's caused a hell of a lot of confusion. Sure, the background stuff on DHARMA and Valenzetti was great, but all the crap with Mittlewerk probably isn't going to come up in the show. It was hokier than a bad CGI polar bear. :)

I also have a theory on what MDG stands for... now that we know AH in the AH/MDG incident stands for Alvar Hanso. this may shed light on something.
MDG means Magnetic De-Gaussing... I have an extensive back ground in electro-magnetic equipment, and if I remember later on, I will post a picture of the De-Gaussing equipment I use daily (it looks alot like the systems in the swan).
Anyway, that would explain that when Desmond turned the failsafe key he created another "incident". The reason the sky turned purple would be from the abnormally large discharge of magnetic energy. When the magnetic energy discharges, it also releases an EMP (Electro-Magnetic Pulse) which in turn (if you've seen Oceans 11, the Matrix) disables any broadband electrical circuitry within the radius of the discharge.
This would explain why the communications of the island/islands isn't working... and Tom's comment of "Ever since the day the sky turned purple"
My guess is that the Swan controlled/ harnessed the energy from a naturally occuring magnetic resonance from Earth. What happened is the system would take the naturally occuring energy, hanress it and amplify it for their use/studies. Since the energy source is undiminishable (blah, blah Jargon) when the swans system would harness and amplify it, it would constantly build up.
When they enter the code, and press the button, the MDG equipment in the swan would De-Gauss while the energy was still at a safe level. When locke broke the command module the MDG equipment was rendered useless... unfortunately for them the part of the system that amplified and stored the charge was still in working condition.
Since they couldn't de-gauss the equipment without turning the fail-safe key, the charge built to epic proportions. What that fail safe actually did was turn off the system that amplified and stored the energy. Thus, it released (or De-gaussed).
Any of you who have ever de-gaussed an old CRT monitor know that even the little bit of energy you release skews the image on your screen, and turns the screen purple for a second. My thought is that the inergy stored in the swan's system was so large it turned everything around purple.
One other thing, is since the natural magnet is no longer being amplified/ harnessed, etc. its energy is left to be how it naturally was. This would render compasses useless, and cause interference in other analog communication devices they may have been able to use (since the EMP killed their newer equipment).
They can still get away from the island the same way they told michael and walt to go... but since they can't use a compass, they can't maintain their bearing. That would be why Ben never left to get his spine operated on, etc. etc etc. Let me know what you think.
Also Cerebrus vent, is interesting too... I always thought that's what it meant. That would mean those are the places "smokey" can be... Also perhaps there are tunnels between each vent, who knows.
Wow, the Magnetic DeGaussing bit of info was genius! The "pressing the button" and the failsafe key makes a lot of sense now. Maybe the machine that harnessed the magnetic energy allows the Others to go to the outside world, but since now it has been turned off, they can't go anywhere.
Really dig the theory. "Old CRT"? Geez, the older ones didn't even have degaussing built in. Way to make this 25 year old feel positively geriatric! ;)
One problem, though: if compass guidance is no longer viable, how do the Others manage to navigate while piloting their submarine? If the answer's "GPS", the problem then becomes that they *do* have a way of navigating, and thus can leave the island after all.

No worries there... I meant old crt because most people have upgraded to the LCD monitors. I'm 29 myself, so don't feel too old.
Only joking on the CRTs. Heck, I've got an LCD myself, but I'm typing this on an IBM Model M keyboard from '86! :) As a youngin', I remember using computers like the one in the Swan...only real 40 and 80 column displays don't look like that. Wayyy too much detail.
But then I'd have to go into, say, the weird issue of the Pearl film being dated after the Swan, but the Pearl film score using older-sounding analog synths while the Swan film's sounds to be done on something a bit more modern.
So, next week's oughta be a kick and a half for me. Interesting how this jigsaw stuff relating to the blast door notes comes up now. I'm betting Patchy's got something to do with managing some aspect of DHARMATel *and* Smokey.

When did anyone definite what Cerberus is? Maybe it's already been put out there, but from greek mythology it was the monster 3-headed dog which guarded the gate to Hades (the underworld). Although I hate the idea of this island being Purgatory, this almost pulls it together a little more. Thoughts?
