Thanks to all our bloggers who attended last nights Lost Panel at Comic-Con and who bought us all the live updates. I will try to make a summary of all the spoilers from last night.
- Event starts off with a clip with Michael Emerson calling the Others a "Rebel Sect"
- Also on the clip show "By the time you see this I will be dead," says M.C. Gainey).
- Voice-over: "The survival of the Island is now at stake."
- Footage of the Lost game is shown (You can see this in the DarkUFO Home page)
- Carlton says Rachel probably won't be on the Island.
- Damon says the benefits of only doing 16 episodes (versus 22) a year is they can do more ancillary "awesome" stuff.
- Damon and Carlton say don't get too attached to Richard Alpert, because Nestor Carbonell's on CBS' Cane.
- They're writing episode one, but it's still untitled
Shooting starts in four weeks.
Q&A Section
Q) Wants to know about season three's violent turn and that the powers that be to promise that the Others aren't the good guys.
No promises are forthcoming.
Carlton says they wanted a showdown, and that involved a body count.
Damon says our guys are more violent but prettier. "When Sawyer is punching you in the face, you're like, More please, you're so attractive, can you take your shirt off please?" But when Friendly does it, it's relentless violence. Says Damon, "If the violence stays intense, it will at least be perpetrated by catastrophically good-looking people."
Q) Where's Michael?
They announce here that Harold is returning as Michael Dawson, but they tell the questioner they're not talking about how or when he returns.
Q) Re: Flashbacks
Carlton says flashbacks and flashforwards are both on the show going forward. "How far forward" and "with whom" are the Q's.
Q) Will Jack and Claire find out they are related?
Carlton rings the bell on Damon, but Damon nods furiously. The crowd goes wild.
Q) Did Ben get caught by Rousseau on purpose? Did Ben kill the real Henry Gale?
Damon says he will answer one of those questions. The asker chooses the capture question. Carlton: "He got caught by accident." Damon volunteers this, regarding Ben vs. Henry Gale: "They had words."
Flashbacks/Flashforwards
They were running out of plausible flashback material, so it was time to switch gears into flashfowards. The end date allowed them the certainty necessary to add that element into the show without further antagonizing fans. Carlton: "What you saw with Kate and Jack was not the end of the show." Damon: "The show has never really been about getting off the Island...There's this whole chapter of the story that takes place off the Island." Outstanding!
Michael
Carlton, regarding poor crazy Michael, "He took some extreme actions." Michael's story is about the power of the Island to be redemptive. And this won't be a quick pop by Redemption Island; Harold is a series regular. Michael returns early in the fourth season, or so says Damon.
Q) "What questions are fans not asking that we ought to be?"
Carlton: "Who's in the coffin?" and rings the bell on himself. D.L. and C.C. ask Harold, "Who do you think is in the coffin?" Harold thinks it's the person with the teenage son...probably Locke! Damon would ask, "Who's on that freighter out there, and what do they want out of the Island?" Carlton would ask, "Okay, Kate and Jack got off the Island? Did anybody else get off the Island?"
Q) Will we get back to Libby and was she part of Dharma
Carlton: "It is our intention to get to Libby's story this year, and we think you will be happy when we finish that." Damon: "You're not barking up the wrong tree."
Q_ Will there be a Danielle flashback soon?
Damon: "There are important things going on in that story, and they have to sync up." They'll do that syncing in this season or next.
Q) A fan named Aaron asks, "Can I call the monster Cerberus?"
Damon says...On the blast-door map, C.V. stood for Cerberus Vents. "That's Dharma's name for it, maybe. Cerberus is one of it's names." Damon: "Aaron, may I call you Cerberus?" Aaron-Cerberus: The monster seems kind of seems like it represents judgment. Why did Eko have to die? Damon: The whole deal with the monster will be definitely answered. Carlton: The monster answer is "not going to be 10 seconds of blank tape."
Dharma Film
The Comic-Con exclusive clip was "discovered" in "Narvik, Norway."
The promised clip is one of the station orientation films, hosted by Marvin Candle under an alias. The footage begins with him getting his makeup done and smoothing down his Dharma labcoat. Bunnies! It's about bunnies! Bunny #15, to be specific. Marvin, who calls himself Dr. Edgar Halifax in this film, identifies it as station six, the Orchid. He says the viewer has probably realized by now that he or she is not working at a mere botanical research unit. He apologizes for making him or her lie to friends and family members about the nature of the work. He mentions something that sounds like "Kasimir effect" and mentions the "unique properties of the Island." Then there's one of Jacob's subliminal messages. It may have been some variation on "as Jacob loves you." Then there's a bunny riot. One of the station's alarms blares, Dr. Halifax/Marvin panics. There's an intercut clip of someone riding a bicycle. The clip is inserted upside-down, and the rider appears to be in the village green of Otherville...And then, amid the chaos (perhaps this is the Incident?), the filmstrip slides off the reel.

Wish I coulda been there!
Holy crap I'm excited for the new season.
I would love to have been there!! Can't wait for next season!
It sounds like it was amazing... No videos?
No people were asked not to video certain portions of the panel or risk being thrown out.
Hopefully some other parts may surface soon.
What coffin were they talking about? I don't remember a coffin, can someone refresh my memory?
seriously?
Must have been a great experience! I'm completely faithful to the show, but I don't like even the faintest hint that Rachel could have even a minor role on Lost.
The idea of merging the Experience with the show makes me really wary, and having those c-class actors (like those who play Rachel & Mittlewerk) amongst television's finest makes me sick to my stomach; I mean for God's sake, Jamie Silberhartz is basically a Lost intern! Please don't let that freighter be linked in any way to the Lost Experience. I don't want to have to do research to enjoy watching my favorite show.
On another note, that Dharma video sounds FANTASTIC! I hope it makes it online soon in one shape or form.
the coffin that the whole of the flashforwards of the s3 finale was about...maybe???
hey dark great work at comic con, and thanks to everyone else that went.
any clue when this new dharma video will hit the internet? i'm dying to see it.
Can anyone confirm the reference to the "Casimir Effect" in the Orchid Orientation?
yeah, it's casimir effect, not kashimir
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casimir_effect
Interesting stuff.... thanks Dark.
I think they showed the video for a purpose, to get us looking through the internet. I did a quick search of Casimir effect and got the wiki, plus a lot of hits. It is interesting and might explain where the power source is coming from.
http://physicsweb.org/articles/world/15/9/6
Also, you can search for the K spelling, you will get some hits on that also.
"Casimir effect" is usually sci fi shorthand for wormholes and time travel.
Haven't looked at the wiki entry for Casimir effect, but at the risk of revealing my true geekness I'd like to point out that it's my understanding that the Effect is a larger-scale manifestation of the van der Waals force.
Van der Waals is a molecular-level force of attraction that holds molecules together at tiny distances and consequently enables geckos to adhere to any surface.
Believe it or not, advances in nanotechnology have enabled scientists to manufacture synthetic gecko feet. Thank you Discovery Channel!
Perhaps Cerberus will turn out to be a giant smoke-gecko.
Most of the questions were really wasted. Of course Libby's story will be concluded. They've only answered it a DOZEN TIMES!
The few good questions were whether Ben got caught in the trap by accident or not and can we call the monster Cerberus. Everything else was just stuff we already knew.
Purple Crayon - are you by any chance in Ohio? How'd you hear about the synthetic gecko feet?
am i the only one who thinks they're implying that michael was in the coffin??
I think that michael was in the coffin too...after killing two people and being kinda lonely too I doubt anyone would go to his funeral.
If Micheal lives to the end of the show then dies and he ends up in the coffin, (because I believe when Jack and kate get off the island, it will be when the remainder of people do as well sometime near the end of the whole show in season 6), I will be pissed. I think hes gonna come back be a regular and he will die at the end of this fourth season. Because seriously he is a villain. I dont think there is anything he can do to redeem himself. So I really dont need this show to add another villain all the way to the end. He better not be in the coffin. And I agree they didnt really tell us anything new. I dont think it matters if Ben landed in Rousaus trap on purpose or accident. He told Locke he came there for him. Whiether that was a lie, or not doesn't matter. If it was on accident then he was just lieing his ass off to get out of it. If he did it on purpose we already know why or have an already provided reason...so it doesnt matter. I wish Darlton would check themselves and their egos. If this was before season two of Lost or before season one...they wouldve had way more stuff to tell fans at this panel. And what sucks is they hyped up this session, ever since the finale. "were going radio silent til comic con"...lame.
I don't know if it's the bloggers I'm upset with or Darlton,or maybe even the folks who asked lame questions because this was one of THE worst live blogging I've experienced! Kudo's that you went (the bloggers) and had fun but I had to go to a different site to get better information. I know it's free. And from a line of Anthony Cooper about to meet his demise: blah, blah blah...
Anyway, Darlton provided relatively no new information. Harold P. showed up and basically the audience didn't asked him ANY relevant questions - which was kind shocking itself. I thought they were gonna talk about the season 3 finale and shed some NEW light on season 4 but instead we got the usual silly banter and a Dharma clip. (FYI, Darlton - after listening to so many of the Lost podcasts, silly banter gets kinda obnoxious). Darlton did redeem themselves by asking the AUDIENCE what questions they should be asking but then again, no follow up from the audience.
The Lost panel session felt like a make out session with no follow through for the big "O". Grrrr!!
hmm..did nobody notice one of the most surprising bits of information that came from lost at comic con.(seeing as how the producers barely revealed anything exciting) Isabel is dead.. I noticed on the character cup that she is listed as being alive. In the special features preview they showed at the beginning on the others, they listed off and showed pictures of all the dead others and it was pickett on there, tom, some others, and isabel. I know for a fact that she never showed up again and I'm pretty sure that I didnt even hear her name spoken ever on the show. I'm sure they had the $$ to bring her back for another small guest spot, so it looks like she didnt want to come back to the island. But yea, it should be known that Isabel is dead..
I thought Candle's alias in the film was "Edgar Allan Wax" not "Edgar Halifax." Maybe I just heard it wrong.
i dont know if anyone has taken screen pictures of the dharma orchid orientation film yet. but i have 3 screenshots of the in between messages. if anyone hasnt seen them and wants them email me.
@ jeff - I doubt they were talking about Rachel from the Lost Experience... pretty sure they were referring to Juliet's sister.
What's interesting in the orientation clip is that Marvin is holding #15; then something drops; then, as the camera reveals the other rabbit, shown and told to be (another?) #15, Marvin frantically tells the woman "don't let them near each other!"; then some talk about time,("but we're still learning..."). Hmmm. Time travel experiments with rabbits? Do animals that meet themselves want to attack each other? Wow. Too cool.
The subliminal message on the clip is "God loves you as he loved Jacob" - Thanks for all of the updates, can't wait till next season.
