Well my very good friend The ODI has managed this very nice little scoop which seems to confirm Secretagentmans feelings in yesterdays post.
The Lost producers are looking for two ships, both need to be seaworthy. The main one they wanted was a big black ominous looking ship, but the ship company didn't have anything that was even remotely similar to what they described. However, they booked another ship and it's going to be a chase ship which goes after the big black one.
The chase ship is the oldest ship in the marina and it looks like it's from the 1500's. Do you know why they would want boats that looked to be several hundred years old?
They want to film out in the Pacific off the California coast in early September.

This is so awesome. I've daydreamed about seeing the Black Rock in her day but convinced myself that Darlton just weren't into it anymore. Putting someone we already know on board would be an incredible wtf moment.
What are the odds an island suddenly appears during the 'chase' and strands one of the ships on dry land? It'd be a classic episode opener. Possibly even what Darlton had in mind when they said we wouldn't know where we were when season 5 kicks off.

I think u might be on to something, wouldnt it be a clever twist if the black rock is stuck in the middle of the island because the island went back in time and reappeared in the area where the black rock is.
Then maybe all the ppl who were on the island 30 years ago would be alive again and the losties who were stuck on the island when it traveled thru time would be able to talk to the dharma initiative. Would explain how Faraday is taping the Pierre guy 30 years ago.
Crazy stuff!I too am hoping to see some familiar faces pop up on that ship.

Is this LOST or Pirates of the Caribbean? When the writers said the season 4 finale was sort of a pilot for season 5, they weren't kidding.
I'm sure the writers will make it work though.
If it is the Black Rock, why does the chase ship look so old? The BR disappeared in the mid- or late-1800s, depending on whether you use TLE or The Constant as a reference, and I strongly doubt she's really meant to be 300 years old. So, either there is something really odd about that chase ship, or this is not the BR. (Or someone didn't pay attention in their history lessons.)

You have a good point, but the "1500s" date I believe was to indicate the style and look of the ship they were looking for and not necessarily the actual time the ship came from.
Plus, that is just the way the source described it to me. So for all we know it is from the time of the BR. :)

the black rock was found in the middle of the island because the island moved directly under where it was in the ocean. the survivors left on the island are going to be on the island in the 1500's and are going to discover the entire history of the island. tha's my theory at least =]
my bad, the OP threw me off. the survivors left on the island will be in the 1800's.
I bet that Abaddon was on the Black Rock, too.

Very exciting news. I'd love a good portion of the show to take place hundreds of years in the past; can you imagine a bunch of sea-ferrers(sp?) coming into contact with the monster?
Yeah, I was waiting for someone to mention our old friend Abaddon, i'd be willing to bet he was part of the Blackrock too. I don't care for the Christian Sheperd theory being part of the original Blackrock though..that's a bit far fetched. I'm not so sure what we'll be seeing is going to be considered a FB though according to what we've been told at Comic Con. "A new way of telling the story" "we won't know WHEN we are when season 5 resumes", interesting stuff...potentially serious answers coming here.
