Awesome :) Thanks Kanaka & Ryan.
So we see Locke convincing Walt and probably Hurley in 5x06, so what's up with 5x01 "Because You Left"? Didn't we think of that episode would tell the story of Locke convincing the O-6? Maybe in 5x06, Locke is desperate and he needs two-three other people to be convinced, who are probably Hurley and Walt.
Also I want the mystery between Locke and Walt to be explained in this episode. We still don't know what the secret was that Locke revealed to Walt in season 1, before they were to play backgammon. And why Walt is SO SPECIAL? Please reveal it (you writers), please!
This just made my day!
I love seeing Walt back!
For a bit I was interpreting these "Locke back in a wheelchair" spoilers as perhaps flashback scenes. But now that we have proof that this is post-O6 leaving the island, it leads me to one question - How did Locke get off the island? My guess is that he turned the Frozen Donkey Wheel since we heard from another spoiler that Locke is real and not a "vision" like Charlie, etc.
I like the Marty McFly vest Walt is wearing ;)
the secret was that he was in a wheelchair before the crash.
heheh i know we all have the same ability to read TOO far into things, but if that "Marty McFly" vest Iceman815 mentions IS a BTTF reference...I love this show even more =)
ooh especially if Walt turns a wooden scooter into a skateboard later in the episode
gokhan, the secret Locke told Walt was that he was in a wheelchair before the crash.
I dont know if Locke turned the wheel again, maybe he got off the same way Tom did. If Locke turned the wheel, he probably would have time travelled the same way Ben did.
It's been tossed around for some time, that the on island 'miracles' would end once you are off-island. Thus Locke back in the wheelchair... this leads me to be believe that 'Adam and Eve' could be **** and ******.
Oh, so a secret was revealed way before than I realized now. :D And now the second question: Walt's speciality?
Somebody said that Locke might not have turned the donkey wheel, thus he would use another way to get off the island.
Sgrmac,
Have you seen the 'Scope of the Island' clip over in the DVD section? Damon confirms that the island's powers reach throughout the world. Which is why Michael and Jack couldn't kill themselves. But what does that mean for Locke? Is he out of the good graces of the island, or is that injured leg really that painful? Of course Locke usually needs a day and a half to heal, so I think he and Jacob aren't that cool right now, lol.
I. Am. So. Glad. Walt. Is. Back! I swear I thought they were going to drop his story for some reason. With these last 2 seasons winding down and all of the stories that need to be addressed and answers told, I thought Walt's story was going to be pushed aside. So thankful for this! I really need to resist the urge to read these spoilers. I'm not going to be surprised about a damn thing in S5!
I imagine Locke got off the island the same way Tom, Ethan, and Richard have been able to.
I hope there is a lot of Walt this year. I want more of that mysterious kid's story before the show is over. I am really hoping he has to go back to the island with the O6
God this is going to be gut-wrenching.
Locke looks so somehow diminished and pale.
I don't think its just the legs....
Remember he only has one kidney..he looks quite ill to me.
Is Ben funding the classy educational establishment for Walt?
I'm glad Walt is Back. But can you imagine how he'll feel once he finds out his dad is dead.(That is if Locke or one of the Oceanic 6 tell him.)
This is so exciting! *_*
Well if being on the island cures him being in a wheelchair, obviously being away from it would uncure him.
No shockers there. But still spooky to see him non-flashback in a wheelchair.
You know, a possible twist to the "Because You Left" title, is if this is the episode where Locke goes around talking to the Oceanic Six, then "Because You Left" might not refer to the O6 like we all thought... what if it refers to Daniel, whose departure on the raft (landing him in the past), and so "Because Daniel Left", has repurcussions on how things change on the Island ?
Might be a left field theory, but just throwing it out there as an unexpected possibility.
Looks like Professor X =)
Oh, and yay for Walt's return, hopefully he is here to stay for the remainder of the show.
Is Walt shrinking? I thought he was going through puberty? Seems like he's going trough it in reverse.
I always assumed "Because You Left" meant they'd show some of the "bad things" that happened.
I agree with ben, I assumed "Because You Left" would be from the viewpoint of the "left-behinders" and what happened because the 06 left. And that "The Life and Death of Jeremy Bentham" would catch us up on what Locke did when he came off the island and then show how he died (of course).
It would be cool if they caught us up on all the on island stuff in the first six episodes and the 06 made it back that quick so we could get everyone back on the island...but that probably won't happen for quite a while I'm sure :(
Actually, looking back at the previews from seasons 3 and 4 that we got early on before they ever aired the only things they showed us were clips from the first couple of episodes of the season. So the first episode must take us right into what happened to the on islanders right after Ben turned the wheel, it's the only way the title would make sense. I don't really think anyone is trying to fool us with the first episodes title, I think it should be obvious what it's about, they know we want to know what happened to the island and they're gonna show it to us straight away.
I agree, Walt looks smaller! Is it a camera trick?
B*Locke...
Don't forget we also saw Hurley with a gun and lots of other off-island stuff. So it's not like we don't see that. I reckon all episodes will focus on BOTH on- and off-island plots. That's why there's no flashbacks/flash-forwards: not only is it confusing because the island is years in the past, but there'd be no time to tell both on- and off-island plots in 40 minutes without abandoning the flashes. It'll be 20 minutes off on-island stuff and 20 minutes of off-island stuff, I think. So looking at it from the previews mean nothing right now, which were LOADED with on-island stuff.
But back to the actual point: I agree that we won't see Locke convince the 06 (plus Walt, Desmond, Ben, etc) to come back until this episode. The first episode will merely show what happened to both on- and off-island people after Ben moved the island. Nothing that bad just yet, just what happened straight after they left. The bad stuff will pile up episode after episode.
We'll actually see the defining moment that Locke decided to go back in the finale. Between episode 6 and the finale, we'll see him alive on island knowing he dies when he leaves from episode 6's plot.

================
Terry O'Quinn, even in a wheelchair, is enourmous. He's just a shade under 6'2" (Just shorter than Matthew Fox, who by corrolary is enourmous as well). He's not tiny.
Though yeah, it does make Walt seem a lot smaller.
Finally, Walt has returned. Last interview, he didn't know if or when he would get the call.
Walt (Malcolm) likely stopped growing by the time he was 15, his voice had changed by then (re: tv guide interview after he appeared in the window in "Meet Kevin Johnson"). He's no more than 5'10 (my son is the exact same age as Malcolm, I know a bit about teenage boys and their hormonal growth patterns). His height is proportional to a man of 6'1 sitting in a wheelchair (look at the production people around Malcolm, you can get an idea of his actual height).
More importantly than Walt's height and what he's wearing is the fact that Locke isn't wearing a cast on his leg in this shoot; why is that? Maybe because Walt already knew Locke's secret about being paralyzed before the crash so he didn't feel the need for a "fake" cast around Walt??
All teenage boys wear hoodies (where I live anyway), that's what he's wearing under that sleeveless down vest. Though it's not something kids where I live might wear, it's quite possible that there are places where these are worn given the fact that I see them in catalogs.
