Rebecca Mader, who was prematurely killed off Lost last season, has agreed to reprise her role of anthropologist Charlotte Lewis after completing a string of back-to-back films—including “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” with George Clooney, and 2010’s “Ceremony,” with Uma Thurman. “I am beyond thrilled to be returning to Lost!” Mader e-mailed me. “Being a part of this show has been one of the greatest moments in my career thus far. I’m excited to see everyone!” Everyone, I assume, includes that polar bear skeleton Charlotte discovered in the Tunisian desert. (Please, let her return finally explain how that creature got there!)

Let the sweaty cleavage commence!
But seriously - her character has so much explaining to do
Nice! Hopefully will get news about Faraday's return soon.
Cool. But come on, TV Guide, we can guess how the bear got there: the same way Ben did (perhaps using the Dharma chamber instead of the wheel, but still).
Eh, never really loved her character. Was the worst of the freighter 4.
Her story is fine. She grew up on the island, was evacuated, always knew she was important, studied history and that led her back to the island where she died.
Let's hope Farraday hits her with a car in an alt. tl.
No, please, not HER again! Let it be an alt.reality visit at Daniel's or something, one episode only. I don't know why, but there is nothing about this character I am the least bit interested in. Hopefully they will explain the Korean language skill, but honestly, I don't care that much either.
She was able to read/understand many languages, not just english and korean...
Just saying.
@ Thomas -
Do you think that polar bear would have fit in that Dharma Time machine chamber? How about in the elevator going down to the chamber - that would have been a tight fit with an impatient polar bear.
Seriously - I agree with you. I don't know if the bear was in the chamber or not, but I think the simple answer is it was used in an experiment and that is where it ended up, maybe Dharma scientists had no idea that is where it ended up, maybe they thought they had vaporized it.
nice! i wonder how everyvone who will be back (nearly everyone will be back : O) actually will fit in 18 eps - but i'll trust em as always.
great, I love Charlotte :D
Great!
I was so mad when she was randomly killed off, as if she was never anything more than a plot device!
Hopefully we'll see more of her life just before the freighter... Tunisia, how she was recruited etc....
LostAtSea
hell yeah :)
good news
Re: the polar bear skeleton
I've always theorized that the polar bear cave led to the FDW chamber.
I'm SO excited!!! :D All my old favorites are coming back!!! :D
we were never really meant to know exactly how the polar bear got to tunisia.. it was just supposed to connect some dots... the island to tunisia, dharma to charlotte, charlotte to the island. it's what i always figured and then i saw where darlton confirmed my suspicions in an interview. of course i don't remember where it was from
okay wow they are really going to bring back everybody aren't they. so excited i always loved "red" as rose called her.
Excellent! Love Charlotte. :D
im a BIG lost nut. but (maybe i missed something) i never fully understood WHY daniel and charlotte had feelings for each other. was the frieghter journey really that long? (always wondered what charlotte and daniel were up to during the 'meet kevin johnson' episode lol)
I thought the mystery of the polar beat skeleton was pretty obvious up to this point, DHARMA trained polar bears to turn donkey wheels so they wouldn't lose any workers.
i can deduce my own answer for how the polar bear got in the dessert.. there's a million other things i'm more concerned with.
I wonder if there's still hostility between her and D/C over them saying she messed up Charlotte's birthdate.
Boo. Hated the character. Didn't like the actress. Not much more to her story really except why did she speak Korean and that's really all I can think of. I want Mr. Eko. Anthony Cooper, John Terry, Widmore of course, Ana Lulu, Michael, Walt, etc etc. People like that.
Considering how she was treated, Darlton should be really thankful she's willing to come back.
I liked her. Looking forward to this.
I thought its pretty obvious how the polar bear got there.
Once upon a time, the Island needed to be moved out of harms way, but they couldnt afford to lose one of their men, thus they used the polarbear to turn the donkey wheel.
Voila the bear is in the desert.
Cool!
@Alex,
I always thought it strange why they would even use a bear for a test and not just stick with rabbits. I guess they wanted to try the experiment on something with more mass.
They either sedated the polar bear, somehow carried a 600-1500lb animal to a tiny elevator and squeezed it in, then again carry it to the vault and squeezed it in there or... they had it well trained enough to be ok with being cramped into a tiny elevator and then cramped into another tiny vault chamber. Either way is cruel but quite a hilarious image. Poor bear, it wakes up in the middle of a desert and marches around until it dies of thirst.
It's great to read she's not angry with the producers.
Whoa, she's in "The Men Who Stare at Goats"? Awesome!
her? really? ehhh
anyone know if rose and bernard will be back?
I think it was once stated that experiments were done using trained polar bears to turn the frozen donkey wheel. The bears would have been used the same way dogs and chimps were used in the space program before any humans went up. I imagine the experiments were done before the Orchid was built on top of the well, so restrained or sedated bears could easily have been lowered into the donkey wheel chamber. And that would explain the presence of the polar bear skeleton in Tunisia. The poor bear would turn the wheel and end up in the desert and wander around a bit before dying, which is why the skeleton was not found on the same exact spot where Ben and Locke ended up after they turned the wheel.

The reason a bear would be needed rather than a rabbit is that a strong animal was needed to push that wheel. If you recall, it took a considerable amount of force just to get the wheel to budge. The Dharma folks must have figured that out right away. A rabbit just wouldn't do in that situation.
Has anyone seen this yet? Caution, I heard this is the VERY accurate summary of season 6 (you have been warned):

@Orion
If I understand this theory correctly, this ending wouldn't really explain why the fate of mankind is at stake...nor does it really explain who is fighting against Jacob. Is Jacob's nemesis simply on his own?
Ah damn, I absolutely hated Charlotte, worst character of season 4. I do think some parts of her background story were interesting, but I really don't see a purpose for her this season.
I've always thought that the polar bear was used by Ben to move the island after widmore was banished to hide the island from him

Sweet. That movie looks funny as all heck, this will give me more reason to watch it... to see Rebecca again!
Hmm. That sounded kinda creepy. It's not, I assure you!
The 77'ers will use the Polar Bear to get back to 2007. I guarantee it. It will be an awesome way to explain it.
Didn't they say in a Dharma video it was the Dharma initiative to bring the bears to the island for experimenting on their intellectual capacity? Seems to be in line with the fish biscuit maschine, too. If animals were needed for turning wheels, why bring exactly POLAR bears to a tropical island? I think it had to be polar bears because they belong to the most intelligent animals known, while turning a wheel is not very difficult. Plus, the Dharma hippies (or at least their bosses, I do not count Radzinsky and co) don't look like people who would send an animal to a very ugly death on a long term plan including a training.
I am not even sure the Dharma people knew about the wheel - why build a whole station (used for nothing but experiments!) on top of it if they wanted to explore the area?
I think there are more places like the wheel room on the island, and one of the bears just stumbled onto one after the Dharmacide, maybe in one of the caves.
But I don't think we need Charlotte to clear that point.
